Thank you Soniaj,

I'm getting all my paperwork together now for an appeal. I'm considering Mexico as an option also--just in case. I'm such an organized and anal person--I can't believe that has happened. I guess I'm in shock--but then again why should I be surprised? I'm sure this sort of thing has happened to a lot of folks on this forum.

I called UHC's bariatric resources back in September 2013 and registered for the program. I followed all the rules and started going to meetings at the Bariartics center they said I had to go to. I called back January and was told that that center wasn't the right one and that I was totally crazy--I couldn't have been told that was the "right" center.

I called my company's HR group and found out that the rules had changed I had to go to a different center--so I got all my paperwork together and went to the new place. If bariatric resources had simply told me that the rules had changed--I would have been OK--but they told me I was crazy. I know I'm anal. Not crazy--and have the psch evaluation to prove it :)

All of January I called them every day and left a message for my case worker. I called every UHC number I could find to figure who was really my case worked--I left message after message after message. Nothing.

I completed the 6-month medically supervised diet, lost 5 percent of my weight, got the psch exam, got the letter from my doctor---everything I was suppose to do.

Today, I get a letter from Bariatric Resource saying that I never registered for the program therefore I don't get approved at this time. I called the number on the letter, the lady tells me they "cancelled" me in January. (Remember, the same time I was calling them endlessly) She says that I have to start over and redo the six0month medically supervised diet.

I'm so mad I say all sorts of mean and natsy things to the lady on the phone. I asked to speak to a supervisor--one is suppose to call me back--but based on previous experience--I doubt that they ever will. They have yet to EVER call me back.

So, now I have to file--in writing--a dispute.

I have no hope that I'll win an appeal. I'm sooo discouraged.

My work has been great so far--but they are waiting for me to get through this so I can start a project. They have actually postponed a project to wait for my to get through this--they can't do this for the months I'm sure it was take to dispute this.

Thanks for listening,

Feeling sad in Atlanta,

Cybergirl, I'm so sorry to hear that. Now you have me even more worried. Who did they want u to register with. I was told I just had to see a dr or nutritionist for 6 mo. Or 2 visits a month for 3 months have a BMi over 40 and or have a medical issue and see a psychologist. I did the 3 mo twice a month. I lost a little but not much. There was no specific amount to lose. But it seems you only get partial info from these people. I did request it in writing which they sent me a few weeks ago. So far UHC has been good with all my test but one. The sleep test. But I can't send my paperwork in until I have my phych evaluation which isn't till May 27th. Keep Me in your prayers and I will do the same for u.

Hi Soniaj,

I will get you in my prayers. Please don't worry--my situation in not the same as yours. I'm sure that the same thing won't happen to you.

Sorry for your troubles-

Think of this as a chapter in your book- you worked to find answers, and nobody can say you didn't put work into your weightloss and took the easy way out!!

I started looking into the sleeve probably about 16months ago- the job I did work at, the employer had it written into the insurance policy that weightloss surgery would not be covered.

I was looking into self pay, and had several options in Nebraska- that had great payment plans one even no interest if I put like 2,000 down.

There was a way and I was going to find out how I was going to have surgery-

After 9 years at my old job, I switched companies that I worked for-

Started looking again into surgery. This time it is a covered procedure, but the twist is I have to be a employee for a year. So instead of waiting for my year- I am doing all my pre stuff now- I have my sleep study on Monday. As soon as July 30, 2014 rolls around my Surgery office will send in paper work to UHC choice plan.

So keep figuring out ways!! You can do it!

Thank you for your kind words sleevexcited! Your postive outlong is very inspiring.

I'm committed to the gastric sleeve--I truly believe that this surgery will help me lost the 140 pounds that I need to lose. If I start all over with UHC this would be the third time. I'm very fornature to have a great job with a great boss--but I know that my job can't wait for me to go through this again.

I'll appeal but if I lose--I'm going to mexico! Enough is enough.

Hi! How did your surgery go? I noticed that Dr. Teel did it- he's doing mine also. How long were you in the hospital for? I still have kind of a ways to go in the process. I see the psychologist today and have already seen the nutritionist. I have UHC and they are only requiring me to do those 2 steps. Hopefully, I can get it approved and scheduled soon! The insurance lady at Dr. Teel's office said that I may be able to be scheduled for June. Anyway, just wanted to hear about your experience since I have the same doctor! Congrats! @@Dawn2680

Hi all!! I have UHC choice plus and my plan doesn't require the 6mos supervised diet or psych visit, I need to have a 5 yr history of 40+ BMI, that's it. Anyhow, I have a 7 yr history of BMI 40+ except for about a 4 mos period 2 yrs ago I was 38.9 and 39.6. Did anyone else have something similar but were approved despite of that? I'm just worried a very small amount of time will cause me not to be approved.

No but I recently had to have my gallbladder removed and my surgeon said I had a very fatty liver. My blood pressure is borderline and I have GERD. No diabetes or hypertension, but I'm on the road there.

Just found out that my insurance denied my cpap therapy. I hope this is not a bad sign. I'm so worried the will not approve my surgery and I need it so bad.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
