Does anyone know what changes happen in this area after you're sleeved? For example, when did it happen after surgery? How often?

I know its gross. But it has to be talked about.

For me, it means I go once a week, and only with help. I have used every recommended product and prune juice. I used to go every day.

I have very few issues....I take a stool softener every day and occasionally use Miralax. Maybe use it once every other week. I eat a few prunes a couple times a week. Quest bars are loaded with Fiber, I eat those occasionally as well.

I ended up getting impacted and had to go to the ER. Definitely take softener if you are trading pain medication cause they cause Constipation. Remember you will not be eating any Fiber only Protein for a while so take Miralax too. Good luck!

I take what they gave me in the hospital after surgery. "Metamucil". Does the trick every time. My bowels want to go every 2-3 days and i generally need help. I take pain medication for my hip. So the pain meds cause an issue with regularity.

Hope that helps.

I wasn't able to go on my own until I was 6 weeks out and even then it wasn't much at all. 1-2x a week I drink a tea called Smooth Move and that helps move things along. It's a great tasting tea too and helps me to get in my fluids as well.

Currently I "go" once or twice a week and the tea helps a lot with that. I am 2 months out from surgery.

Probiotics absolutely a god-send. Was using Miralax but it actually stopped working for me. I take one probiotic pill a day and it is amazing; go every day!!

For me, it is a great improvement. I have Crohn's and was always on the more liquid side of poo. It has reduced my ummm capacity from 4-8 times a day to once or twice a day or I've even skipped a day or two. It is also much firmer. It is major relief to my bottom. :D

I am almost 4 weeks out and I still am having a lot of problems in this area. My Dr told me to use Ducolax Suppository. I have had to use this twice and that was the only time I have gone. I tired Miralax and that didn't help me at all. I am open to suggestions too. Thanks!!

I have to have 4 heaped teaspoons of Benefiber a day plus I have a Inner Health Plus tablet too. I'm 8.5 months out. I tend to go every 2 days as long as I take everything. But I do get lots of pain and then I have to run to the loo. I hope this helps

I'm on the opposite end. When I'm not sick with diarrhea from a Clostridial infection, my poos are soft formed and once a day. Rarely, I will go a second time, but it's never been hard and I've never been constipated. I stocked up on Miralax, benefiber and Metamucil in anticipation of Constipation, but never needed any of it. Not sure why I'm different.

I was super constipated the first month or so after surgery. Going maybe 1-2 times per week. Once I was able to eat solids, I started adding some fruit to my diet and a fiber Gummy every day. I also am constantly dehydrated....so when I'm better about drinking my Water, I go more consistently. Currently I average about every other day. And it's not as hard and painful as it was. It's a common problem with bariatric patients! I have miralax on hand but haven't had to use it. Drink your water!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
