I don't have a date yet but everything should be turned into my insurance company tomorrow. She said I'd probably have surgery in about 30 days. So I'm expecting it to be Feb 6 or 13.

Barring any insurance stuff, my surgery date is February 19. My surgeon was awesome and since I'm doing my surgery just before my spring break (is it spring break if it's in February?? Ha) he made my surgery appt at my consultation. I have to have a scope done next Friday. But I'm super excited, and have basically told everyone I know. I can't help but want to tell EVERYONE I'm going to be healthier and thinner someday soonish.

UPDATE: Saw my surgeon today. He was extremely happy with my 10 pound weight loss. Next appointment will be psych visit. February 5th I go back to surgeon to submit to insurance and schedule endoscopy. I'm looking at the end of February for surgery.

January 29th will be the end of my 3 month diet period.

I should also be getting sleeved sometime in March. I'm up in Alaska and will be getting it done at a military hospital where everything is just kind of in house. Next month will be the end of my 6 months of monitored weight loss. I've done meetings with my surgeon, NUT, a weightloss group, psych eval, sleep study, submitted past endoscopy/colonoscopy results, bloodwork, so I'm really at the tail end! I get butterflies when I think about it coming up. I'm so nervous, but excited at the same time! I won't find out my exact date until next month when I meet with the surgeon again. My sister, who is a Nurse Practicioner, and my Mom, a Registered Dietician, will be coming up to stay with me when I get it done, so I feel a little less stressed/anxious about the procedure and recovery. My surgeon was pleased when i told him that, to say the least! LOL!

the Kaiser I have, I am required to attend 6 visits with a nut, one visit per month, 2 of those visits were wls classes,. a psych eval, attend one or two wls seminar sessions, and attend a wls support group. My journey started Aug 2013 & Jan 13th will hopfully be my last visit with nut. Think I will then get a referral to see a surgeon of the two hospital choices I was given. Guess then the surgeon will send me for required testing.

Oh ok I see. So our processes are a little different. I had to do 12 classes of Options. Then we meet with the psych, then the bariatrician, then the surgeon to get our surgery date. Good news guys my sleep apnea study came back negative! One less thing to worry about. I am with everyone else with the worries about the AFTER surgery part. I am still fighting my drive-thru, sugar, and caffeine addiction. How will I cope? I am already finding myself gravitating towards spending. I will definitely talk to my psych about cross-addiction because I can see myself going down that road (to spending addiction) since I already have a small problem with it now.

Also, my bariatrician appointment isn't until feb 7th so looks like I am probably looking at a March surgery.

Hi we started the same time! I started my weight loss class in August and ending first week of feb! How are you holding up? After my classes are completed they will send a referral to the surgeon and hoping to get everything taken care of in feb and have surgery march. They said the process of psych eval, approval and surgery date can me 1 month long so I'm hoping time will fly. Keeping my fingers crossed all goes as well.

I have my Psyc eval on the Jan 27th and then I'm all done with appointments. I'm assuming after that I will see the surgeon again for my surgery date. I'm not really sure. So nervous but very excited.

We will support you and I'll pray that your family comes around too. Are you eating plenty of Protein to fight hunger? I'm on 1,200 calories a day. I find I'm hungry at meal time but I've also been hungry if I didn't get my Protein in.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
