Tomorrow is my pre op nutrition class. 4 hours worth. Monday is pre op with PA, blood tests and hospital pre registration. Surgery 7:30 am on Feb. 4.

Monday is also the start of pre op starvation diet. We get 6 Protein supplements a day. Not too excited about that part.

Looking forward to the surgery and a chance at finally winning the food wars.

Wishing you the best of luck! They say the first 3 days are the hardest on the preop diet. I hope we all feel the same. It'll be hard, but worth it.

Thanks super. I've been reading a lot on here and not writing much but I need to start participating in the conversation. Although I hate keying on this phone.

I think I can do just about anything for two weeks, so yeah the pre op won't be much fun but will be doable.

My biggest fear is the dang IV. I know it's pales in comparison to having an actual surgery, but it's what I dread the most. I figure on the preop, since I get 2 meals of Protein n veggies a day I'll likely be ok, I try not to think about that IV. Maybe I won't faint this time. Lol

Hi Mirabb, I'm holding up pretty good. Hoping all goes well. I remember in August I thought wow I have a long way to go for 6 mos. & bam! I'm in the 6th month already. The time will fly. How are you holding up?

Hi Tangy, I'm doing good as well. I still have 3 more weeks and then I should get the ok to see the surgeon and do the rest if the requirements. I'm super anxious and wish I can forward the clock! If I knew the date I would be happy. But all in due time

I started this process April 2013. I had to complete a six month diet, see a nutritionist, psych evaluation and a pre op class. All was submitted to insurance on 12/22 and on 12/26 I was approved. I have an appt with the surgeon on 1/22 to set a date for surgery and get all my preoperative testing info. I am super excited for the change that is going to happen. Anyone else in Colorado Springs, CO?

Congrats! I'm 3 weeks away from finishing the required 6 month supervised diet. Did you do the psych eval prior to seeing the surgeon? How was the psych eval?

I had to get all my appointments with the pych eval and nutritionist done beforr submitting to insurance. The pych eval was one appointment of tests and talkt to the dr for 30 mins and the next appointment was us just going over what he was going to submit. I am so excited to see my surgeon next Wednesday and get a date and start the losing journey.

I went to my fifth month of supervised weight loss attempt with my pcp today. Last appointment on the 12th of Feb. Then everything is ready to turn in to insurance. Done with psych and all other preop stuff besides labs. I am so anxious to get my date. I really hope they will let me know soon since everyone is signing up for vacations for the year at work now and I have no idea what to sign up for.

My last appointment with my nut and surgeon are on the February 7th. I am really hoping for a February date! I will have done my psych and 6 months of supervised diet on that day. Which is all my insurance requirements. I wonder if they are sending me for any more testing. Are there any other required tests for surgery?

At my final meeting with the surgeon before I start my preop is an EKG, chest X-ray, labs and a 2 hr class about nutrition after sleeve. That's on feb 3. The next day I start my 2week preop diet and surgery is the 18th.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
