Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

Is anyone else having persistent gas pain? It's lodged up under my left collar bone and I can't seem to get rid of it. Really uncomfortable.

And I'm so sick of Protein Shakes I could die. Honestly, I never thought I'd be that way, but most everything I'm eating is kinda sweet and it's getting disgusting. Can't wait for that egg! Might try egg drop Soup tomorrow....kinda liquidy but tasty and real food.< /p>

I had surgery 11/26.

Walmart has whey Protein Shots that have 42g of Protein per 3.8 oz. They're really sweet and tart but I can tolerate them. The shakes gag me now!

I was sleeved on Nov 8th and I feel like crap. Acid Reflux is killing me. The pepcid AC chewables they prescribed i cant find them anywhere. My back pain is BRUTAL. Nausea wakes me up everyday. I dunnoo what to do. Im so depressed.

I started my liquid diet on 11/22nd and revision surgery band to sleeve on 11/27th and I'm already down 20 lbs. I love my Sleeve!!!

I was sleeved on the 26th. I get some fairly painful cramps when I sip on any liquid, but I've read that will pass soon. I'm able to drink enough liquid and get my 60-80 grams of Protein. Can't wait for purée stage so I can mix in some flavor to the diet. So far down 26 lbs since preop diet started.

I am day 3 and having a sharp cramp whenever I drink something. Has this passed for you yet? Looking for the light st the end of the sleeve lol

The only thing that worked for me with the gas pains was walking, walking and more walking. I know what you mean about the shakes and everything being sweet. I can't stand it and I didn't drink sweet stuff before. I am so glad I can tolerate plain Water again. I am so excited about the egg next week. I told my mom I felt like I should go to the store now and pick it out like people pick out their Thanksgiving turkey.

Sorry you are not well Yoly :( I'm only 3 days out so don't have any good advice. Just to talk to your doc about it. At the very least he/she should be able to give you something for the nausea. Hang in there xx

UPDATE: I'm excited to say I'm now under 200 pounds. :) 199.8 to be exact!!! When I first started this journey In Jan of this year I weighed 251. I would of never thought I would be under 200 again, and I know I wouldn't have been if it wasn't for the sleeve. I am very happy and doing well. Almost 5 weeks post op. 21 pounds lost since surgery!

Hi! i was sleeved 11-12-13. I am in the midst of the 3 week stall and extremely depressed about it :( I am down 13 since the surgery but 28 since the pre op.

hope this stall breaks soon.

I know stalls are hard I had one for 3 weeks. Now that was hard but you have to keep in mind it will pass. U have lost a good amount so far and it will continue.

Hey Y'all,

I'm doing ok, but I have hit that stall! My surgery was 11.12.13 and I have lost 35 pounds which includes 15 on the 2 week pre-op diet. I have been struggling with 5 to 6 pounds over the last week - I keep gaining then loosing the same 5 or 6 pounds. It's getting frustrated, but, there is nothing I can do but wait it out.

I am on the mushy stage and refried Beans are my staple. I thin them out with salsa and sour cream. I went back to work this week and that's what I have for lunch. I am also eating cottage cheese, applesauce, tuna salad, chicken salad and yogurt. I tried cream of mushroom Soup but making it with 1% milk didn't settle well. I can have crackers and certain veggies (canned carrots, asparagus, green beans, califlower, etc.). Right now I am at work and am drinking some hot chocolate from the coffee shop across the street.

Things that are different:

1) Water - I now like very cold water with ice. I used to be fine with room temprature water, but not any more - I want it cold. I have a Protein Drink for Breakfast (Core Power Light - 20 grams) and put it in the freezer for a bit so it will get slushy. I do miss not being able to chug water down - especially after a good workout!

2) Feeling full - My stomach actually hurts when I over eat. Seriously hurts sometimes to the point that it is hard to stand up straight. Funny thing is that it's my HEAD that's telling me I want more. So, I'm having to work through portion size and making myself realize when enough really is enough.

3) Tummy sounds - I have themfrequently. Not sure why, but they are loud on occassion! :-)

4) Not hungry - I seriously have not felt hunger since the surgery. At least not the way I used to feel it. I'm not to the point I have to remind myself to eat, but I really don't feel hungy. I'm having the hot chocolate now because I wanted something 'desserty" after lunch.

5) Changing tastes - This is just weird. I used to love asparagus. I tried it last night and - yuck. Also, I loved Peanut Butter enough to eat it by the spoonfuls, but not now. I tried it this week and it tasted different plus it sat very heavy in my tummy and make me have a stomach ache. Lastly, I wanted some chocolate, so I tried a reesses peanut butter cup. It tasted good and went down ok, but it wasn't as good as I remembered it to be - probably a good thing!

6) I can tell when my tummy is over full - it's like pouring water in a bottle and filling it all the way to the top - I can feel the liquid that close to the back of my throat if I over eat.

As for my surgery - the gas pain was the worst in my left shoulder. That took quite a while to disappear. I had a hard time consuming all my Protein and water. I still do to some degree but it is much better now.

I'm looking forward to December 26th when I have my six week check up and can graduate to salads and other yummy things.

All in all, I'm doing good and no regrets since week 1 (I think all of us should get a 'regret pass' the first week when we say to ourselves - "what the hell have I done to myself!").

Surgery was 11/4. Lost about 13lbs pre op diet and another 17 since surgery. So that equals about 30 total since the pre op. Please guys, try not to compare yourselves to others. Just bc your surgery was the same day, you're not a 'slow loser' if you have lost less, or whatever. Every BODY is going to lose differently, have different composition of Fluid, etc. Any loss is a good loss, and you will lose as long as you stick to the plan. Heck, you will probably lose if you DON"T stick to the plan.

We have very similar stories...I was sleeved on 11/14. I'm at the dreaded stall and it's messin' with my noggin!

I'm trying to stay positive and just keep on keepin' on - I'm following my plan and exercising and trying to stay positive.

Hang in there - we got this!!!!!

I was sleeved on 11/4 and have lost almost 40 pounds, which includes 10 pounds from pre op.

I do get hungry sometimes, but think it is because I need to drink more Water. Also need to get bettee at tracking my fluids and Protein.

This has been the best decision I have made. I already feel so much better already!

Sleeved 11/12/13, down 26 lbs but hit the week three stall. Read about it on here. Figured nah, won't happen to me. Now I'm just hoping it doesn't last too long. Also had my first real bout of Constipation. What fun ! Was shaking from the pain. Also feel like I can't tell if I'm hungry, nauseous, sick, in pain. Very confusing time right now. I'm keeping my head up. No regrets. The dr warned me these first months are rough ! Good luck everyone.

Nancym, I finally resorted to my old favorite, prune juice, after over 7 days without a BM. (If you are a Star Trek fan, you'll recall that Warf referred to prune juice as a "warrior's drink"). It worked like a charm. I think I drank about a cup. You might try it.

I am having alot of trouble getting in my Water and Protein, and need to keep better track of what I'm taking in. Failed the scrambled egg test today....just couldn't get more than a couple of bites in and I'm at 10 days post-op. Looking forward so much to having REAL food instead of Protein Drinks, even if they are pureed.

If anyone has some favorites, can you please pass along ideas and recipes? Thanks.

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
