December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Alright December Sleevers, I'm hoping that this title brings more people in so we can follow and encourage each other through our journeys.

I am 40. I'm 5'4" and about 308 right now. I'd like to get to a healthy BMI which would be around 145. I'm hoping for a December 4th or 5th date with Dr. William Johnson.

Everyone introduce yourselves!

WOW all of the 16th sleevers are doing great, and so proud of you for hanging in there. Well wishes and prayers for our 17th crew. This December bunch is AWESOME! So thankful I found this site. My thoughts are still with Andrew. Hope things are better and you get to go home today.

Omgsh! One day down of my 2 wk preop. It was so hard 3/4 the way thru my day. At 7 pm I drank some unjury chicken broth, and thank You Lord, it was so good, helped w my headaches n pangs a little. I am going to bed now to speed up the process of not havn to b awake :/ I'm usually a nite owl but tonight this owls getting knocked out. Lord willing, day 2 will kinda b bttr but Ik I'm fooling myself cuz I've read it takes about 3, but one-day at a time. Ugh!

It does get better and so glad your working so hard at the pre-op. It was better for me after the fourth day.

---

I reeeeeally wish I had a similar experience

I feel every bit of my sliding hiatal hernia repair and I'm just about 5 days out ....still feeling like a Mack truck ran over me just under my left breast and mid chest/throat area ..... I'm praying that I recover soon and get off these pain meds so I can be out and about like a normal person

You are very lucky to be feeling no pain this early out, praise God! My hernia was a shock to my surgeon and he warned my mom that I would be in a very high level of pain once i came out of anesthesia

My incision pain is tolerable -- only 4 small to medium cuts; I can live with that

About to start another round of pain and gas meds now.... Ouch ouch ouch!

I hope you feel better. The best thing that toy can do is walk and sip

I hope you feel better. The best thing that you can do is walk for the gas and sip water. I have 6 incisions, 5 small and 1 big.

I'm 55 and started at 246 lbs and I'm 5'10". Surgery was December 13; I was in the hospital 2 days and am doing well, at least I think so. Still on clear liquids, but think that will change tomorrow. As of yesterday, I was down to 230 and looking forward to continued loss. Still haven't found a decent protein powder I like to add to foods/fluids and that's a problem; I'm fine with liquid supplements for now as far as taste and appreciate the input of those who responded on another thread.

I'm surprised by the amount of flatulence and the uncertainty of passing gas and what comes out; it's like the end of the bowel prep. Wondering when that will improve and hope it's soon. I've not added any protein to my liquids or jello, but that's because my husband was making everything for me and didn't know. I'm hoping that's the clue. I see the doctor for my first post-op visit tomorrow (day 5).

Best of luck to you all as we continue this journey.

Just a quick update, surgery was yesterday morning. Dry mouth was the absolute worst part! Got to start ice chips this morning at 10 am. Overall things are good so far. Been sitting in a chair and walking the halls. Should be leaving tomorrow (my doc requires a two night stay).

So I did it! Was so anxious but happy it's over ! No nausea bc I have a patch and let me just say dilaudid is heaven! Not much pain only soreness. Walked once at 530 ths am and just an hour ago. Barium swallow test went well but tasted gross!!!!!!

Congrats to u!! Thank God ur well n pain is managed. Question plz, if its hard to drink afterwards, how did u manage the swallow test? Is it alot to drink, do u have to drink it in a certain amt of time? Just curious. Thx. :). Grats again!

Dilaudid was heaven for me as well, but too bad you can't take it home with you. They gave me roxicet for home use which is almost half gone -- day 5 post op for me, hoping I'm done with this pain by Thursday or Friday --the surprise sliding hiatal hernia repair has taken me on a wild roller coaster ride. If it wasn't for that I don't think I would need any pain meds at all.

It actually wasn't hard for me to swallow. I just had to take small sips. Not a lot to drink at all. Thx for the support!! Good luck to u and all if u!!

. I had to take 3 sips... The first wasn't that bad, but the 2nd and 3rd was terrible lol

They just made me sip a little bit to show what they needed to show; while nasty tasting, it was tolerable and showed that I didn't have a leak, for which I'm thankful.

Post op day 8. Felt better yesterday. Don't know if I am drinking too fast or not enough. Idk anyways hope to take my boys for a walk outside in the snow but they are napping right now. Using pain med only at night now. Going to have yogurt for dinner tonight instead of cream soup. Will see how that goes. Hoping next Tuesday I can start purred food! Got some great recipes from this website!

I insisted on taking the dilaudid home with me but I still have terrible pain when getting up. It was much better controlled in the hospital!
