Alright December Sleevers, I'm hoping that this title brings more people in so we can follow and encourage each other through our journeys. I am 40. I'm 5'4" and about 308 right now. I'd like to get to a healthy BMI which would be around 145. I'm hoping for a December 4th or 5th date with Dr. William Johnson. Everyone introduce yourselves! I finished the class and I'm at the hospital waiting for preop. I did not use their shakes. I tried others. I really like the Unjury chocolate. Very excited!

I was sleeved Monday and came home yesterday evening. Pain was very tolerable for me, my heart goes out to you who are suffering =(

I am really impressed by those of you doing broth and Jello and all already! I am lucky if I can get in all my Water. First sip is ok but second hurts. Luckily they didn't require me to do the broth or shakes they brought me before I was able to leave or I would still be there. So much more comfortable at home.

I am hoping to try some Protein Shake tomorrow. Maybe part if a Popsicle or a bite of jello later today.

Praying for all you folks going in tomorrow!

I was a 12/2 sleevers and just got home. Surgery was easy and I don't remember anything. I had more pain than I hoped. I wasn't sure if it was gas or incision pain. Thrilled to be home. Trying to see what fluids and temperatures work. Good luck to those later in December.

Hello everyone. I was sleeved yesterday and wanted to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I am still in the hospital, I just did my swallow study they said they didn't see and thing alarming. I am waiting on my doctor to read the results so I can start Clear Liquids. Those moistened cotton swab things are just not doing the trick.

I am in a lot of pain, which stinks. I had a hiatal hernia that the doc discovered and repaired during surgery. My pain is not a the incision sites it I above it on the right hand side. It is so painful tears come to my eyes when ever I have to sit or stand. I am staying another night due to the pain. This might be a little *** TMI so here is your chance to skip....okay last call......I am having a terrible time urinating it I like a 30-45 minute affair of staining and pushing down for a few drops at a time the doc said its a because of the morphine end TMI***

So long story short I am staying an extra night due to the extreme pain I am dealing with

I am thinking and praying for everyone getting sleeved today as well as those who have already been sleeved

I am staying another night too. I want to make sure my pain is manageable on po meds. My right side hurts the most too. Doc sats its where they pull the stomach out and there are some internal stitching. The nurse told me most people stay 2 nights its rare to go home after one day.

On a funny note, anyone do anything crazy on versed before the surgery? i apparently held my hands up and screamed "wooo im on a rollercoaster!!" while being wheeled to or. I also told my sister i thought i was drunk. Lol! anyone else?

12/2 surgery here. Doing well at home. Belly button incision and left incision are sore, otherwise moving around a lot. My stomach/intestines are making some awful noises with all of the air in there. Taking Gas-X and walking as much as I can. Trying to get all my Protein and Water in, feeling better each day!

I'm 39, 5'4" and my highest weight was at my last preop check in on Nov 21st and was 293.

I am scheduled for surgery on dec 9th!

Been on liquid diet since 11/25 which meant no thanksgiving for me.

I'm super excited! I have my bag packed ready to go!

A nurse I work with said to pack gas x strips to dissolve on your tongue to help with gas and bloating. She had bypass 10 years ago and has kept it off.

Ready to get started!

Whats everyone drinking after surgery?? Protein Shake wise. I know Slim Fast isn't good for you because of the sugar but the Slim Fast High Protein I have been drinking for my preop diet only has 2 sugars in it and the New Direction product that they want me to drink has 4...Kinda confused about that...Good Luck to everyone being sleeved this month!

You can do a search for Protein Drinks. A lot of people ask opinions on those and everyone has their favorites! I've tried 3. I've tried the Body Fortress strawberry from Wal-Mart and don't like it at all. I've tried the chocolate ready to drink Premier Protein from Sam's and it is now tolerable. I hold my breath and drink it really fast! I've also tried the chocolate splendor from Unjury and love it!

The chicken broth flavored Protein Powder from Unjury is good too!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
