Which Bariatric vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements do YOU take ?

Vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements are important for staying healthy when you’re a bariatric surgery patient. Not every patient receives the same advice and some patients don’t know the best options. This forum is a great place to let everyone know which bariatric supplements YOU take. Can you please take a few minutes to share which dietary supplements you take? Thanks for spreading the word!

1. Do you take a bariatric daily multivitamin/mineral supplement? Which brand and formulation specifically? For example, you might take Centrum for Women or One a Day Women’s Active Metabolism.

2. Which bariatric Vitamins and minerals do you take each day? What is the brand and formulation of each? For example, you might take Puritan’s Pride Calcium Magnesium Vitamin D or Nature Made Iron 65 mg (ferrous sulfate).

3. Which other supplements (including herbals) do you take, and what brands are they? For example, you might take Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omegas fish oil.

I am a big believer in the value if Vitamins and supplements. Here's what I am taking since my sleeve surgery 2 months ago:

Bariatric Advantage (BA) chewable multi (2 a day)

BA sublingual B12, 1mg

BA Biotin, 5 mg

BA chewable calcium (caramel), 1,000 mg

From Whole Foods:

Vitamin D, 5,000 IU

Vitamin E, 400 IU

Magnesium, 400 mg

From Walgreens:

Feosol plant-based Iron, 28 mg

From GNC:

Fish Oil, Coromega Gel packs, 2,000 mg

Here's my list:

Daily AM: 3 Kirkland calcium citrate (500 mg each), 1 Kirkland Multivitamin with minerals, 1 Kirkland Vitamin D3 (2000 I.U.), 1 NatureMade Super B-Complex

Daily PM: 3 Kirkland calcium citrate (500 mg each), 1 Kirkland Multivitamin with minerals

2 x per week: 1 Spring Valley B-12 sublingual (2500 mg)

1) Bariatric fusion Vitamin and mineral supplement: 3x daily

2) vitaFusion Fiber+Calcium (PreNatal support) Gummy vitamins: one at Breakfast, one at lunch

3) Simply Right Biotin: 5000mcg in the AM and 5000mcg in the PM

4) vitaFusion Energy B12: one at Breakfast, one at lunch

5) NatureMade (adult gummies) Fish Oil: one at breakfast, one at lunch

6) VitaFusion D3: one at breakfast, one at lunch

7) Spring Valley chewable C (500mg): 1 in the AM

8) Celebrate Iron+C: 2-3 x per week at night (never take in combo with calcium)

I'm searching for a chewable or powder form of MSM for additional support with hair/nail growth and other benefits

Fish Oil (Carlson Elite Omega-3 gems) 1x daily

Glucosamine/Chonedroitin (Equate) 1x daily

Potassium Gluconate (Nature Made) depends on how much I get from food

Nature Made - Garlic Complex, 1 tablet 1 daily

Wow! That's a lot of calcium! I take two of those a day. Is there a particular reason for such high doses?

Wow! That's a lot of calcium! I take two of those a day. Is there a particular reason for such high doses?

I also take 6 calcium chews a day and it is my nutritionist guidelines, I know diff docs and nutritionists vary a bit, but mine made a big deal about the Calcium especially in women.

MFP says I should be getting 3000 mg of potassium. I don't even come close. Bought some supplements, but they're relatively low dose (90 mg). Does anyone get in all their potassium?

Double check with your doc before you start taking potassium supplements. Too much potassium can be a bad thing. Potassium is an integral part of heart function. Are you counting all of you Multivitamin, any drinking (some shakes and Gatorade, and Vitamin Water has potassium). I am a pharmacist...I would not recommend a patient take any potassium supplements without doctor approval/supervision.

I'm counting everything and not taking more than a couple of the potassium supplements. Being cautious due to reasons you gave. Trying to get more from diet. Thanks for the feedback.

You really should talk to your doctor. Too much potassium can cause death and that being said you shouldn't count on MFP to be accurate. Potassium is only to be taken with lab work done and verifying you need it and prescribed by a doctor. You should never decide I need potassium and I think maybe I will start taking some. It can cause cardiac arrest and possibly death. Serious business....

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
