Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi GR8

Just noticed you are one of us Virginians doing the LapBand. How long were you in the hospital and did you have to go on all liquids 2 wks before. I will have my surgery 28 Jun in Richmond.

Take care,

I had mine outpatient. They asked I be there (7:30am) 2 hrs before surgery (9:30am). They gave me the heparin shot (only 1) didn't hurt - more like a prick. (Left a HUGE BRUISE size of softball) the IV was the part that was uncomfortable going in. I was awake at 11am - spent some time with my husband and then they took me to xray to have the barium swallow - then I got dressed and left the hospital by 2pm.

I appreciated being in my own home!

Wishing you the BEST!!!! Feel free to ask anything.

Hugs!

Hey all! I've been MIA.....just quit my job (tomorrow is my last day) and got my dream job of private cheffing for an amazing family. I'm stoked....

Had my fist fill today (1 cc). It was a breeze. No pain whatsoever. It was done in about 15 seconds. I'm feeling full tonight. The office assured me I would need at least a fill or two more to reach my sweet spot...bt I'm hoping for some restiction.

I'm at 226 today. I lost 5 lbs. since my last Dr. visit. I thought it was more but I'll take 22 lbs from the beginning of the journey!

I'm about to start reading posts...you are active! I may be reading all night!

"Missed" you all and hope everyone is feeling well.

Hi GR8

Just noticed you are one of us Virginians doing the LapBand. How long were you in the hospital and did you have to go on all liquids 2 wks before. I will have my surgery 28 Jun in Richmond.

Take care,

I read everything under the sun on Gastric bypass 9/2006 - decided I would see if I could follow the diet -- lost 8 lbs -- in a few weeks -- and decided I could do this program -- went to the free seminar for the gastric bypass end of Sept.

I decided I was getting the Gastric bypass -- but unable to until after March due to $$$ -- continued the diet and by xmas -- lost total 30lbs.

I got off the strick diet - started enjoying my diet soda's and such -- decided no need to suffer the last few months -- keep the weight off and stable through early March.

Made my appt with Doctor to discuss if I would be a successful patient and which surgery. He said sure - perfect canidate for either - the risks were less with lapBand - so I made my surgery appt that day -- took home the materials -- and back to starting my diet/program again - just a month to surgery -- Started the preop 3wks out replacing 2 meals a day; then 2 weeks out all three meals with Protein Shakes. Ended up losing additional 16.6 lbs.

Had my surgery 4/9- weighed in 1 week after - and lost additional 6 lbs.

Now I go up and down an additional 4 lbs since then -- but that is it --- haven't lost anything in like 4 weeks -- very frustrating.

I do get my first fill 5-31 - since my doctor gives first 6 weeks afterward and this week I have been traveling (I do alot with my job).

Have a good night!<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Tracy

you are funny. I have to tell you I have 1/2 cup of no sugar added Eddy's coffee ice cream every night. I HATE milk, let alone skim milk and they have the same nutritional values. So 90 cals enjoying every bite OR 90 cals gagging while I sip my milk.

Hi all- I'm doing okay after my second fill. Moved from mushies to solid food for dinner tonight and did alright with meatloaf and a 1/2 c. of chicken veggie Soup. I was really nervous about making the move to solids because I was having a hard time getting cottage cheese down this morning, but I've concluded that I'm just 'tighter' in the morning, which I've read about often on this board. (How does anyone get through this process without support like this???) Anyway, I've had a total of about 7-800 calories today and it felt like plenty of food! Ok, so onward with more solids tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Nothing special going on this weekend...I am definitely going to clean out my closet though!!

Tracy -- Bless you, you are such an angel!...and I am so excited for your new friend, too!

GR8: I wanted to tell you that I think you are kicking booty on the weight loss. I think all your research that you did on the RNY really led you to the right doc who led you to the band. You are doing GREAT!

OK>........... I'm sleepy.........

Hello all...its been awhile!!! Had my band done on 4/17. Went for 1st fill yesterday and oh what an ordeal! I always thought my port was high...but he stuck and stuck and pushed and pushed all around the port incision. Stuck me 5-6 times...kept felt like he was hitting metal ...then sliding off the side. He even tried it with me standing up. He never did get it...I have to go Tues and have it done under fluro. I just hope it isn't flipped. Today I look like I've been beaten.:cry Hope everyone is well!!

Shawna,

I had surgery on 4 17 and had a fill yesterday and the same thing happened!!!! After about 15 or 20 minutes she finally got it. She must have stuck me 8 or 9 times at least. I have a bandaid on it so it is covering up the stick marks. I will have a nice assortment of bruises. But the amazing thing was that it didn't hurt!!! She did numb me first. I could feel a BUNCH of pressure, but that is it. She was persistant and it paid off in the end. I got 3 cc's, wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

I also had a liter of Fluid drained off my hernia reapir area, and for some reason I got woozy while she was doing it, so yesterday I didn't eat much, I am sure I will tell in the next day or two. I am going back in two weeks for her to drain the hernia, and she said she could give me a fill if I needed it!!!! I feel like I have the BEST Dr. who doesn't give up and understands what fills mean. Although she does weigh about 100 pounds! I can't sleep so I guess i am rambling. Need to try sleeping again, work will come very early!!!

Have a good day and nice weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jane

Good Friday Morning, Violets~~

TGIF! And a "fun" weekend, to boot! Yay!

Today is Day 12 Liquids... 3 to go!! Reality is creep, creep, creeping in!

Well, I went & did it last night. I was on the p hone w/my neighbor who is a great gal but also THE BIGGEST gossip & who always knows everything that's going on in town w/everyone. I've mostly been just very vague w/most people re: what surgery I'm having ("female type thing")... that usually gives folks the idea that I don't want to talk about it... but she's going on & on asking "Are you having THIS?" "What about THAT?"... but ina nice way... really, sometimes you don't even realize you're telling her stuff as she's so good at extracting info... anyway, I got to the point where I couldn't figure out what to say so I just bit the bullet (which I don't think was on my liquids list) and told her. She said she guessed that. How would one guess that?? <shrug> I told her my "whys" of why I wasn't telling everyone up front, and she assured me that she would keep it to herself -- NO WAY! -- so I realize that I just told the town. The only good thing is that w/school almost over, I won't see most folks 'til the end of Aug... it'll be great to be all healed & hopefully have lost another 25 or so by then!

Busy day... hope everyone has a great one!

Good morning everyone!!

Could not go to work today. (breaks my heart, lol) but my cold/sinus infection is back with a vengeance. ow both ears are hurting so I probably have a double ear infection. I am going to the doc this morning. Bad part is I ill have to get liquid antibiotics instead of those big horse pills I wo't be able to swallow. Ugh, I hate liquid antibiotics...i would rather take a beating than drink that stuff, but if that is what it takes to get well, so be it. Maybe I can just get a shot or something. I am not looking forward to getting on their scales because they are always so much higher than the scales at my band dr office.

The first fill I ot last week seems to be working well so far. I get full quickly. I am only taking in about 800 calories a day and the scale went down another pound this morning, so now I am at 233!! YAY ME!! That makes 24 pounds since the 4/11 band date. I can handle that!!

Michelle-I know how READY you must be to be banded. I am so happy for you!

I do not post too much, but I read everything. Sometimes I just do not know what to say because it seems like everyone is already close...so I get the red-headed step child syndrome...lol Sometimes it seems a little hard to just jump in and talk, ya know?

Well, everyone have a super day and I am going to get dressed to go to my dr appt. If there are any spelling errors, it was my fingers, not my brain.lol

Take care,

TracyTX

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
