Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Laura - What is this business about eating pancakes, PBing and then continuing to eat pancakes??? Uh, isn't that a big no-no?? How many times have you PB'd since you got the band? I'm guilty, too....of not taking small bites and eating too fast since my 2nd fill. Things do change quite a bit when you get filled and I'm finding I have to RE-learn all the rules like I did immediately post-surgery when I treated my band like gold. (Hell, it costs a lot more than GOLD!!) Just be careful and use this time before your fill to practice good habits....you'll be glad you did!

Christy - That IS good news about your port...I'm glad that they're still able to get to it easily. Are ya'll gonna have to fly to Mexico everytime you need a fill? Or have you found a local dr. to follow up later on?

Good Sunday Morning Violets!~~

Day 14 liquids, 1 MORE TO GO! :)

Yesterday was long & hot... but I made it through. I probably didn't drink enough yesterday, but...

Today is our annual neighborhood block party/bbq... I have strategies for not eating, but I know it will be hard... but hard doesn't mean impossible, so I can do it!

I try to imagine life "on the other side" of Tuesday... no more eating a piece of pizza in 4 bites? No more marathon cookie dough eating? No more "big" salads? No more wolfing down dinner? I think that speed and volume are my biggest enemies, and also my biggest fears post-band. I'm not really so worried about choice/variety, however. Interesting. Is it psycho to be grieving the loss of speed & volume? (Maybe I'll get two goldfish & name them that: speed & volume. LOL!) You guys have all adjusted to these things, right??? So I will too... right???

This is it... after Tuesday I HAVE to change... the band will force me to... and it's a bit scary as I know that this will be a catalyst to a LOT of changes that I can't even predict now... this is all becoming VERY real! I'm nervous, but not in a freak-out way...

Have a great day, everyone!

PS -- Laura -- don't do that again!

Hi All!!!

I'm back!

Wedding was great and I was a very good girl!! I eat & drank what I wanted without having any issues or overeating or "going off the rails!" there was a lot of food at the wedding dinner (4 courses) but I only eat what I could & it was really great.

Everyone else at my table cleared their plated at every course (even the skinny girls) and I there I was chewing away eating about a third of what they did & feeling very happy about it. Someone else here said it before, it's amazing to observe people over eating when we can be satisfied with so much less.

Anyway, I drank LOADS too, so am on a Water mission now to dispell of the toxins I consumed, but thoroughly enjoyed sans guilt! And not much of a hangover either (thank you Bcomplex vitamins!! LOL)

I weighed myself before leaving for the wedding & had lost that regain I was dealing with...heading off at my original first goal weight of 224..which really made me feel good!!

I'm due for a weigh in tomorrow again & don't expect to be starting into my next goal as of yet..I am prepared to have a small regain after the last few days's activities but wil deal with that again!! It won't be a major thing.

BUT I do have to work hard this week to get past this first goal!! I REALLY should be well into my 2nd at this stage, but the last 2 weeks were about regaining & maintaining this week for the wedding. I really have to make an extra special effort now this week to rev it up a bit.. I have spent the month of may in a stalled weight situation and don't want to be dealing with a first goal weight any longer...

So...please send me positive vibes ladies...I have a VICTORY to realise..xx

BTW...you might be very proud to know I wore size 14 to the wedding (and am currently sitting here typing in 14 jeans too!!)

I never done inches measurements but obviously have lost a good few!! My Bras are too big now, so I look like Dolly Parton until I get re-sized and get these puppies back under firm control!! LOL..

POWER TO ME GIRLS PLEASE...this is a VERY important week for me to REALLY make a difference & start moving on & downward again...

PLEASE GOD, tomorrow's weigh in won't be worse than I suspect!!

PS...

that's a US size 14...started out at US size 18

UK size 18 now, down from UK 22...

UK size 14 is where I would feel most comfortable

( I do like to have curves, sexy mama)

I don't think it's psycho to be grieving the loss of anything to do with food at this point! This will change your life (for the positive), but even then I believe we grieve the positive changes in our lives. Change is difficult, but so very worth it! I was banded April 11 and have lost 33 pounds as of last week. It's not always been easy, but every pound that comes off is so exciting! You CAN do this! I will be saying a prayer for you. Post when you feel like it.:)

Denise

I am feeling the same way, I'm eating 3 meals a day but for the most part I am not hungry then all of the sudden.........BAM.........I could eat a house... ok maybe not that much but that 1 cup of food seems like a lot after not being able to eat. I have an appt on the 12th. I am bouncing between 231 & 233 and it is frustrating. Pms is kicking in which is not going to help, I am so bloated... blah blah blah

Anyway

MICHELLE. I've been thinking about you all weekend... you are almost here with us. Be strong - today is not going to be easy but I am sure you can make it

HUGS

Another P.s...I think that's p.p.s...

I see an ad down the bottom left of this page advertising Oprah's weight loss secret...Wu-Long tea...

I really hate the way they market these things as weight loss secrets..as if it was that easy..we'd all be on tea!!! and to claim it gets rid of 3lbs a day is outrageous!!!

Is it not a bit Ironic advertising the like on a site like LBT???

And besides, I always wonder why Oprah didn't have Gastric banding surgery?

Terri-I just realized that we are both Spivaks patients! Small world! And the swelling after PB did happen. I cant get hardly anything down but liquids & mushies...thats good though cause I went down 2 more pounds!! YAY ME!! e did not win at the casino, but I saw a man win fifteen thousand dollars. They would have had to call an ambulance for me if I won that much! Next time we go I will let you know and maybe we can plan to meet!

Lunasa-If I had Oprahs money I would not have needed the band either. Personal chef, personal trainer, spas....it has to be alot easier to lose weight when you have all of that!

Hi Jenn-2 more down....another step closer to the 220 something...we will get there girl!!

Everyone have a great day!

Denise-My weight did the exact same thing...I stayed at 239 for 9 days. It will start coming off again soon. I was down to 231 this morning, so now I am waiting for the 220 somethings and I can not wait!! I had my first fill a week and a half ago and it is working really well...the fill did the trick for me.

Have a great holiday!

Did they give you a decongestant? That usually does the trick! Your sinuses and your ears/throat are anatomically connected and one affects the other.

Hi Denise,

They gave me antibiotics and sinus pills, but the bad thing is I can't swallow the sinus pills because they are too big and I have a tough time getting them to go down. They can not be crushed since they're time released. Luckily I can crush the antibiotic. Nothing over the counter is working to clear up my sinuses. I am going to call the pharmacy and see if the can suggest something. So far Advil cold & sinus in helping a little, but I need something stronger.

Hello, I am home healing from surgery and bored so I am reading every thread on here!!!!

My Doc told me for sinus problems to use Afrin spray in the teel color box. Lay your head back and give it a blast.....I hated it but it worked great! Good luck and thanks for letting a May bandster infiltrate your thread! I hope you feel better soon.

Peace,

Maureen

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
