Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Good Saturday Morning, Violets~~

Today is Day 13 -- 2 more to go!!! :biggrin1:

Will be out & about most of today... one of my best friends is moving back to our town after 4 years away & I'm going to decorate her new house w/streamers & balloons & a sign for their return later today!

Then we have soccer, soccer, soccer... that will take up about 6 or 7 hours today...

I can't believe that when this weekend is over... I'll be getting banded! When I start to get anxious &/or hyperventilate, I just think peaceful, positive thoughts and zen out... I'm actually ok, I think!

Hey, did any of you have to "swish & swallow" this nasty mouthwash stuff 4x/day for the 4 days prior to your surgeries? BLEH! I can't remember the name of it right now, but it's to prevent yeast?? I also have to wash w/a different yeast wash medicine 2x/day on my stomach/folds area... lovely. Not. But having to do them is making this REAL!

Oh, and OF COURSE I'm expecting TOM ANY MINUTE... so I may or may not have to start injecting myself w/the Lovenox on Mon night... they said that if I'm bleeding, not to do it (this may be a time when I'm actually happy about TOM! if TOM = no needles!)

Ok, gotta dash -- Have a great day, everyone!!

it seems like forever since I posted...we've had TOOOO much going on, but things seem to have settled. I have caught up on most posts...just have two pages left to read...

Hubby and I just got back from Monterrey. We had our first adjustments. EXCELLENT experience! He got 1.7 cc and I got 1.0cc. The fill amounts seem perfect. We are each eating about 1/4 to 1/2 cup food and feeling very satisfied. I have lost 6 pounds since Wednesday!!!!! Plateau is officially BROKEN!!!

The fill consisted of this:

  • I was put on an x-ray table ( i went after my hubby and it was already in the standing position, so they let me ride it back down to the flat position - Weeeeeee!)
  • Dr. Lizcelly (Rumbaut's team) found my port with her hand then turned on the x-ray and showed it to me.
  • She showed me the port and band on the x-ray and showed me that my heart was beating - what a relief!
  • She numbed the site with a shot that felt like a bee sting, then using the x-ray inserted the adjustment needle - didn't feel it at all, but it sure was freaky watching that long needle go in there!!
  • The x-ray table was mechanically moved to a standing postion and I was given some type of barium swallow.
  • We watched the Fluid go down and she injected 1.5 cc's. The fluid had completely stopped with the 1.5cc's, so she pulled out a little and had me swallow some more. She did this until she was satisfied with the amount going through.
  • I ended up with 1.0 cc, she pulled the needle out and it was over...just a little band aid and NO PAIN afterward.
  • We drank a cup of Water while visiting the nutritionist then went back to the hotel on full liquids.< br />
  • We had to try to eat 3 small bites of scrambled eggs the next morning for Breakfast. If there was too little or too much restriction, another adjustment would have been done, but neither of us had any problems.

We got back home last night (Friday) and I had lost 6 pounds. What a difference!!!

Terri-I did not know that! Fluids & mushies after a PB...this may sound like a dumb question, but why? Thanks for the info.

Christie-yay for you and your 6 pound loss! Way to go girl!

Michelle-I did not have to do that swish & swallow thing....

Everyone have a great & healthy holiday weekend!!

OOHOOH!! I almost forgot. The last time I ha been to my regular dr office In January, I weighed 269 and today it was 234 on their scales

woooohooooo!! So I definitely think that the 12 pound loss from then to my pre-band weight loss counts. So that is a grand total of 34 pounds. COOL:)

That is great, and of course it counts! I have my ticker set on surgery day weight, but when I get bummed that I have not lost anything in 3 weeks, i just remind myself that I lost 48lbs in total since January and that is 1/2 way to my ideal goal weight. Ok I want to be less than 175 but would be soooooooooooooo very happy with that, so I am keeping that as my goal.

I hope to get a fill on June 12. I have good days and bad days.

As for chinese, I wanted some this week too, so instead of general tso's which is my fav. I got chicken & broc w/black bean sauce and it was good, light and filling. I was so happy with that

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend! my mom is here from AZ so we have been running for days, but so nice to have her here. Have not seen her since the week before surgery and she is amazed at how great I look

Jenn-I would SO be happy with anything in onederland!! It has been so many years since I was there. Heck, when I graduated from high school many moons ago I weighed more than I weigh now, so i am happy with my progress so far too. My mini goal right now is 220 something.

Have fun with your mom!!

I hear you, I wanted to be 225 by the end of May, doesn't look like that is going to happen. I did just weigh myself for the first time in days, I was down to 230.5 at 1:30 in the afternoon, so i hope in the am I will be 229.

I am going to six flags for the day tomorrow, it is my stepmoms company picnic. So I am looking forward to going on waterslides and being able to play and not just watch.

May not go on as many rides as I would have in the past, but more that I did last July when I was 280!!!! so excited

Jenn-That sounds like so much fun. I have not been in a pool or anything like that in 20 years. I do not own a bathing suit...and when I get one, I am really going to have to work on my fears of being in public wearing one. It just un nerves me to even think about it. But, I will do it because life is too short to just sit back and watch everyone else live and have fun....i have done that way too long! But the idea of being able to play with my 3 1/2 year old daughter in the Water will be my driving force!!

I am waiting for my husband to come home and then we are going to the casino in Lake Charles. I can't wait. It is amazing how much better we feel about ourselves that we are losing some weight, isn't it. I just found myself smiling at myself in the mirror instead of feeling depressed. That is awesome.

Take care

Well, it's just what I've read on this board. That a PB really irritates your pouch and esophagus and you need to give it a rest, otherwise you may have a tendency to PB again...vicious cycle thing.

Hey! We thought about doing the same thing! That would have been wild to meet you there! We have to help DH's sister move tomorrow. Fun.

Hey guys! I've been lurking.. Accounting at work is having a break down, so I was filling in all week and yesterday it came to a head and there was a lot of issues.. so I was in and out of my office, I would read posts, but didn't have time to reply. Last night I was engulfed in looking at wedding dresses online.. I've pretty much decided the style I'm going for.. a renaissaince kind of look.. but with huge train.. I want 3/4 sleeves that flow to the ground. Now I hope it's not too hot! LOL. Pushed it up so it wouldn't be too cold and now I worry about it being too hot.

Oh, I also found out about sand ceremonies! I was worried about doing the unity candle ceremony outside, I DJed a wedding in atlanta and it was outdoors and the candles wouldn't stay lit, I was emberassed for them.. so the sand ceremony is what we're doing. For anyone who doesnt know (maybe I'm the only one who didn't know!), you each have a vase of colored sand, and you pour it into a combined vase and it makes a design, and like our lives were seperate and now combined, the sand can never be seperated and individual again and so is the marriage (paraphrase). So then I was looking for pretty vases.. and the 'sand ceremony kits' I've found 3, the same 3 at 2394234 different websites. So I thought of something better. Getting a personalized crystal decanter (for brandy I guess), to do the mixed sand, so we can cap it and keep it on a shelf and it looks pretty. Item 620 Decanter - Barware, Custom, Engraved, Personalized, Monogrammed, Customized, Etched

Thats the one we're getting, with a rose etched into and our joined initials.

So onto the weightloss. I've NOT been eating healthy!! But, the flip side is I'm NOT eating a lot.. so I'm hoping that evens things out. I have been 300-301 for days now.. soon it'll be in the 200's!!

Today I had a half of a bacon egg and cheese burrito from Sonic and half of a chocolate milkshake. 4 bottles of Water (its sooo hot today, I'm parched). Thursday night we went to Cracker Barrel.. I order pancake breakfast... I ate the eggs and 1 sausage, and about 4 bites of the pancakes.. Took it home.. Friday I had one of the pancakes (all of it!!), and I had my PB moment.. not the stuck one, just where I burp up the food and have to spit it up into something.. and then I kept eating more!

I can't wait for my fill.

Terri - I asked him if it could be flipped...he said very unlikely..but possible. Hopefully not.

We (hubby and I) just got our first fills and my port was flipped on it's side. I think it happened when my darling wonderful 3 year old son hopped on my lap and landed with his hand on my port then to add insult to injury slid down off of my belly, digging in with his hand and dragging it right across my port incision. It really hurt for about 5 days!!!

Anyway, it wasn't an issue with the fill. Doctor Lizcelly (Dr. Rumbaut's team) found it right away and held it in position while she stuck the needle in. I think I will always opt for fluoro just to be safe and avoid as much pain as possible...

Just thought I'd share...Lizcelly said that it really isn't a big deal and not to worry about it.

9 days until I hopefully can get a fill - I'm able to eat about 1 1/2 cups of food and my weight loss is at a standstill....It's weird - I never feel hungry until I actually start eating! Then I just can't seem to get enough food. My weight is fluctuating between 239-240. I need to get it down a little so that I'm completely out of the 240's. LOL

Oh well, maybe I'll be getting a fill soon. My daughter and I got a lot of exercising done today. We oscillated the dirt in the front on both sides of the sidewalk and mixed with some really good potting soil. Then we planted lots of pretty flowers. That was after we shopped all day LOL....

I hope that everyone had a great day!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
