I am so glad you guys are a a -twitter and getting excited, for those who didnt get insurance, neither did I, paid a whopping $15K which I didn't have, but yes a year later it was worth it and I wouldn't change this for the world............................hope this inspires someone at least !!!!

Love AmouretteXX Any personal messages gladly accepted, wish I had had someone to say that a year ago, but I guess this shows how well the site and the band and the info is growing,

XX Good luck to you all, it is easy.......but do get counselling if your over-eating problems cuts in, I have had to, but it was easy after the fills, just no sign of hunger........

OK... have you all heard (from vetran bandsters) about

Soft Stops & Hard Stops?

Meaning.... the signals your body gives you when you are full and need to STOP eating..

One of the "Soft Stop" signals is your nose running.....:omg:

A little while ago I was down in our break room heating up some leftovers,

(I won't go into EXACTLY what it was.. since I know many of you are starting on your liquid diets and it would be considered food PORN) LOL

Anyway..... here I was eating away at my bowl of warmed up stuff and about 1/3 of the way into it, MY NOSE STARTED RUNNING!!! I thought it was weird because the food was not spicy.. and then it hit me..

THIS IS MY SOFT STOP!!!!!! Maybe this signal has been happening to me forever and I just never put the fork down long enough to notice it...

and this is the REALLY awesome part........... I got up and dumped the remainder of the bowl INTO THE TRASH!!!!!! I did NOT save it for later, I DUMPED IT!

Yay ME!

Well, isn't THAT interesting!!! I will definitely be looking for that signal when I eat my lunch today!!

Where would we be without this board??? ....just fumbling around in the dark!!!

I'm really proud of you Tracy....you did real good! :clap2:

Check it out........exactly 2 weeks from today I'll be going under the knife. Most of my doubts and anxieties are all gone and I'm READY to get this show on the road. I mean, it's already time for me to clean out and then start re-stocking my pantry and lining up my post-op supplies!!

Tracy I am SOOOOOOO proud of you!!!! You put that food to waste rather than to your waist!!! You recognized the signs----paid attention to what your body was telling you and most importantly you listened!!! Way to go girl!!! If you have that figured out now, you will do fine with your band. I never mastered the art of listening to my body tell me to stop pre-band. I put too much effort into listening to it tell me to FEED ME!!! I have since learned, and when mentioning it to others---non banded friends, I have had a couple tell me they get signals too---and my friend Becky has lost 17 pounds, by eating like I do! She takes smaller bites, chews them well. Sits her fork down between bites, doesn't load her fork until her first bite is swallowed....and she says she to gets sniffly---and she has begun quitting eating when that happens---and it is working for her! She said if anyone has similar helps for ditching cigarettes she would be grateful for advice.

You did good Tracy---your body will react positively to the actions you are already taking. Plus your body getting used to less food prior to the pre-op diet/post-op diets---will do nothing but help you!

Terri---I fully understand the need to positive thoughts---it is a great idea. Keep in mind though that depression, and anger are very natural feelings to go through with this surgery, and through the pre/post-op diet times. You are parting with a long time friend. FOOD---in the context we knew it. It is not uncommon to be extremely emotional. With that in mind---you guys may need one another (and I am always available here or in PM) to vent to---moan and groan with---just commiserate together. It is a major aspect of support. And while I support the positive affirmations 100%, I hate to see anyone internalize their fears, or upset....it ends up coming out in another way----oftentimes overeating! So work hard to stay positive---but always remember we are all here---we all have gone or are going through, or will be going through similar things. And those around us, can cause us emotional hurts, that few others will understand better than your band family. We will be here with broad shoulders...and a pat on the back. Even a boot in the butt when you need it. And when it is all behind us---we laugh together.

Tracy gets that pat on the back today!!!! Keep it up girly!!!

Thanks for all the comments today... I've kind of had a weird few hours so I've been offline.. ;)

Sara: Hard Stop = PB

I have an hour left at work, and tonight is SURVIVOR!!!!

Terri: You are so right........ if we didn't have this board, we would all be fumbling around, poking at our bellies, wondering what was going on in there...... our significan others would get so bored with us constantly talking about our squeaky bands!

I think I got everyone added back to the list... OnlyMe..

Terri---I in NO way meant for you to give up your gung ho happy attitude---I love it!!! I just didn't want you or anyone else being surprised by the emotional upheaval this sometimes causes. And if it does hit one of you---in a depressive manner---for that person to think they are the only one, and hide it.

PLEASE don't think I was chastising you---I truly did not mean it in that way.

And if you find yourself in drill sgt. mode again----would you PLEASE order me away from the movie popcorn---I can see my scale sailing upwards!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
