I am almost 4 weeks post op and starting to have cravings. I am feeling like I want to go back to the bad habits of before. It is scaring me so badly. I want to be healthier and live a better life I want to run and play with my children. I want to feel good about myself but then these cravings come and I fight such an emotional battle inside. I feel on edge at some moments and perfectly happy at others. I have no regrets in having the surgey and am very thankful I have this tool to help in my loss. Please pray for me....

They definitely aren't worth it...and if you give in you will probably get sick and be full of regret. You deserve better than that!

As you are able to eat more, hopefully your cravings will subside. I've found that spicy foods for some reason really help with my take out cravings (and hot sauce is sugar free!) And since my nutritionist says no raw fruits yet, baby food fruit is a good way to limit your portions of fruit.

Good luck, this will pass.

Couldn't you try to find a healthy version of what you are craving? I think if you plan your meals and occasionally schedule in something like one of your cravings but a healthier variation you should be okay. I do not believe limiting yourself completely is good as then you are most likely to fall off the wagon. Good luck!

What kind of things are u craving.

Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

I am craving things like chips to a snickers bar. I am not stupid enough to try the snickers bar I am scared of anything with sugar. But I did have a few of my sons Pringles. I am trying to be good I didn't go through all this work to fall off the wagon, I think that's why it's such an emotional roller coaster. I didn't think it would be so hard to break up with my food habits. I thank God he gives me strength every day:-)

Well your not the only one!! Just pair this habit with something new. If you eat the Pringles, follow it with Protein. Or walk while you so it. Make new habits with the old ones.

Have you experienced dumping before? Trust me, NOTHING is worth it. The cravings probably won't go away but your will power will grow and you'll be proud.

No I have not. I have not eaten to much junk other then a few chips. I think the fear of dumping is much great. I want to be healthy and I want to pass that down to my children and family. I know I will get through it I have an amazing support.

This is a great Fourm but sometimes being face to face with people that have gone though the same thing helps a lot more. And you get to see the results right before your eyes.

They are not for everyone but if it help you get though this hard as hell Journy it's worth it

And the other thing that helps is looking at my boy and known I'm going to be around a lot longer for him

Yes I actually go to two support groups they are both very different that is why I go to both. They are very helpful. I was having a rough day and all of you guys were so great to support me right when I needed it. Thank you! As of this morning I am down 20lbs since surgery 08/01/12 and I am excited to keep dropping. I am feeling challenged again to do my best:-)

When I am CRAVING chips/crunchy I have 1-2 crunchers (gerber?) they are like cheesies for babies, they have very little fat/sodium/sugar ect but take the edge off when I feel I am going to crack, I have also had a tiny bit of nutella on toast for the chocolate cravings...so far so good :)

Hi everyone. I actually went online to www.batiatricchoice.com and bought some fabulous foods that have Protein in them. For example, some hot chocolate that has 12 grams of Protein per serving or some chips that also have 12 grams of protein. Just a thought to help with getting over that craving. I also got some chips but I actually threw the bag away but was able to take some snapshots in the computer. Here are pictures of what I am talking about. Let me know if any of you have tried any of the products or if you end up trying in the future. Good luck!

The cravings will eventually pass so hang in there. In the meantime, there are a ton of healthy substitutes.

  • Chips - try Kellogg's Special K Cracker chips. They come in a bunch of flavors including sour cream and onion, ranch, and a number of others. 110 calories for a 27 chip serving size. I think they're excellent and a great substitute for chips. I also eat them in situations where I would have had french fries before.
  • Snickers - Try Pure Protein chocolate Deluxe Protein Bars. They're delicious, 180 calories, 2g of sugar and 20g of protein. And they're amazingly filling! They're available from a number of places online and offline but Target has the best prices I've found.

My high protein food list is over 125 items now. If you don't have it already, post or PM me your email and I'd be glad to send it to you. Lots of good stuff on there!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
