Just putting it out there, so 'dirty' little secrets may see the light of day!

  • Popular Post

Okay, so, since I've been frequenting this virtual bariatric world, there appear to be a few issues which seem to ignite much debate and throw the most meekly devised threads into huge ego-centric 'flaming' exercises.

Not only do I, personally, find this predictably boring; it is also deeply unhelpful. We all know that this process changes or should change, how we do and view things to do with food and wider health issues, forever. As such, it takes a bit of getting used to.

The prospect of having to adapt our long-held behaviours is scary and our little food related rituals? They are tough bleedin' Cookies to break. (My apologies for mentioning the 'C' word there)

Consequently, I'm a big believer in the adage that 'skeletons in the cupboard' are no longer 'skeletons', if they are dragged out into the light of day. (Normally kicking and screaming with the neighbours looking on in horror)

So, roll-up, roll-up. Consider this an online bariatric confessional!

There'll be no 'Hail Mary's' or 'Our Fathers' and flagellation will NOT and should not be forthcoming.

I want you to tell us your 'dirty' little bariatric secrets.

What did you do? Why did you do it? (and I will refrain from asking 'with whom?' you did it!) How did it make you feel afterwards? Did you resolve to never do it again - or indeed, did you think that actually, everything in moderation is not so bad after all?

Did you chow down on that hot-sauce laden and cheese encrusted beef taco 2 days post op? (No one can tell I'm fantasizing about anything that does not constitute a 'fluid' much, can you?!!!) Did you sneak into the fridge and eat all your kids chocolate bars, happy in the knowledge that your Protein Pump Inhibitors would prevent you from getting indigestion? Did you swallow 10 vodka martini's to see if your pouch and your legs could take it?

Come on, tell Aunty Revs and lets see if we can put these beasts to bed once and for all :) x

As is only fair, I shall go first.. Tonight, I, 8 days post surgery, ate a fair amount of cheese frosting off the top of a red velvet cupcake (and maybe a couple of mouthfuls of the sponge, too). Why? Because it was there. Did it make any sense? No, because I have never craved sweet stuff. I'm a savoury kind of girl. What did I learn from it? That damn, I'm an emotional eater (which I never thought I was) and that shockingly, that **** went down a little bit too easily. Consequently, I learnt in that way lies grave danger...

See, if I can do it, anyone can. So, step forward and lets hear the 'worst' you've got. Everyone is welcome and all are equal here :) x

first let me say I'm pre-op so I'm not in any danger of serious harm, so today I over slept and did not take my lunch, I ordered out , I order domino's (because they deliver and I have no car) chicken alfredo w/ bacon and onions in a bread bowl, all I can say is I'm miserably. I'm too full and sleepy. So that is my confession.

Every week, every day, every meal, every bite of food--making the best choiceat all times takes tremendous amount of practice, patience and compassion. Think of pre-op as a kind of having your 'training wheels' on. You are learning so much about yourself every day. It's all great practice and no mistake goes to waste (but it might go to waist) Hit the re-set button, and start again. best wishes

Specolous?

Tis also known as cookie butter. Tastes like cookie but with almond butter texture.

Specolous?

Speculoos is purchased at Trader Joes, I'm not sure where else. I just mentioned Biscoff cookie spread in another thread, it's pretty much the same thing. Super sinfully yummy. Not on our prescribed eating plan, for sure!

Woo! I'm waiting to get my sleeve and I want to follow the diet plan to a T... Would it be bad for me to start dieting like 4 weeks before my surgery? I mean like... Liquid diet. Lol. I want to drop at least 15-25lbs more before my sleeve.

No, not al all. In fact, losing a little might improve surgery and the recovery process. Both my wife and I started dieting (not liquid diet tho') before surgery date. I lost 30 during the 6 weeks proceeding and she lost about 15 one month before. Glad to hear you are going to follow to a T. I am blown away by some of the cheat stories on this thread.

Yeah I woulf br scared to leak or blow out my new stomach! How bad was you pain afterwards? I have a pretty demanding job and I'm only able to get like 4 days off... will I be able to stand and walk around for 6-9 hours a day??

I think you should take more then 4 days off for recovery. I took 3 weeks off because it took that long to feel normal enough to work most of the day. Minimum would probably be 2 weeks if you can. Sorry for the thread hijack. Now back to normal programming, confessions .... :)

I drank all my holiday cocktails... Through a straw.... SLOWLY!! :)

I started a month before I had to. Didn't do liquid, but I did 1 protein shake a day, broth based soup and salad for lunch, veggies and protein for dinner. I stayed under 1500 calories and lost 20 pre-op.

I started two weeks before my liquid diet cutting out carbs, sugars and most fat. Ate protien bars "quest", protein shakes and lean meat. Helped me when I had Togo to the liquid phase. Good luck.

My NUT had me on a 1200 cal. diet with basically a diabetic diet for 8 weeks prior to surgery. I also had to start no drinking while eating. Soooo glad I did that, because its quite an adjustment in my opinion. (I used to guzzle down 2-3 diet comes and a glass of water at dinner each night back before I gave up pop.)

Also- Confession...I had a shot of Gentleman Jack this weekend. I think that is what caused me to crave doughnuts and ended up caving a day later and ate 4 Nickles donut fair doughnuts :/ I felt like total crap afterward too (though not after drinking lol).

I wear my socks to the gym twice before washing them.

And they stink.
