Mt. Pleasant Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I Am From Hawkins, Texas. Not Far From Mt Pleasant. I Was Banded On Feb. 23, 2007 In Monterrey Mexico. Insurance Would Not Cover The Surgery In The States So I Had To Go Out Of The Country Due To Cost. I Had A Great Dr. And Hospital So All Is Well. I Have Been Using A Dr. In The Dallas Area For My Fills. There Are 7 Other Bandsters That I Am Aware Of In The Hawkins Area. I Think We Would All Be Surprised At How Many There Are Of Us If We Could All Merge On One Thread. I Was Luck Enough To Have 2 Really Good Friends Who Had The Surgury On The Same Day, Using The Same Dr. And Hospital As I Did. We Are Traveling This Journey Together. We Go For Our Fills Together Also. Second Fill Is Wednesday April 24, 2007. My First Fill Was 1.7 Cc. I Would Love To Here About Other's Experiences With 2nd Fills. There Are No Organized Meeting In Our Area So I Am Interested In The One In Mt. Pleasant. Could Someone Please Email Me Some Info.

Hi D! Welcome aboard. I have had my second fill. (March 19th) I must say that it helped a little. I can tell I have some restriction, but not the kind that I need. I'm still getting hungry and I haven't lost much since the 19th. My first fill was 1.7cc, the second was .5cc. You are welcome to join us on this thread anytime. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Our support group meetings are on the third monday of the month at the hospital in Mt. Pleasant. You would be welcome to come and bring your friends. We have a really good group there. There are a lot of us that use the same Dr's and post on the Texarkana thread as well, so you might get more opinions there if that's what you are looking for. lol Anyway, welcome and if you have any questions, ask

OH MY GOSH!!! OUR EXPERIENCE WAS GREAT. THE DR. IS MIGUEL ZAPATA AT WWW.READY4ACHANGE.COM. LIKE I SAID BEFORE 3 OF US WENT DOWN FOR THE SURGERY. I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT GOING TO MEXICO, BUT 3 OTHER PEOPLE IN HAWKINS HAD BEEN TO THIS DR. AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THE DR. AND THE HOSPITAL. THEY WERE SO RIGHT! THE DR. WE USED WAS WONDERFUL AS WELL AS THE HOSPITAL AND STAFF. WE FLEW DOWN TO MONTERREY THURSDAY EVENING AND WERE PICKED UP AT THE AIRPORT BY DR. ZAPATA'S DRIVER. WE WERE CARRIED TO THE SHERATON IN MONTERREY WHERE WE SPENT THE NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING THE DRIVER WAS AT THE HOTEL TO PICK US UP AT 6:30 AM. WE ARRIVED AT THE HOSPITAL AROUND 6:45 AND WERE CHECKED INTO THE HOSPITAL BY 7:00 AM. WE WERE TAKEN TO THE PRE-OP ROOM BY 7:15. LESS THAN THIRTY MINUTES LATER WE WERE TAKEN TO SURGERY. ALL THREE OF US WERE OUT OF RECOVERY AND INTO OUR ROOMS BY 11:00 AM. WE SPENT THAT NIGHT (FRIDAY NIGHT) IN THE HOSPITAL AND WE WERE RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL THE NEXT MORNING (SAT. MORNING). OUR DRIVER PICKED US UP AT THE HOSPITAL AROUND AT 10:00 AM AND TOOK US BACK TO THE SHERATON HOTEL WHERE WE STAYED THE REST OF SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. THE DRIVER RETURNED AND PICKED US UP AT THE HOTEL ON SUNDAY MORNING AT 6:30 AM AND TOOK US BACK TO THE AIRPORT FOR OUR RETURN TRIP. WE WERE BACK IN TYLER TEXAS BY 1:00 PM. RECOVERY HAS BEEN VERY EASY. I REQUIRED NO PAIN MEDICATIONS AT ALL. AND I RETURNED TO WORK THE NEXT DAY ( MONDAY MORNING 8:00 AM). I COULD NOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE DR. AND THE HOSPITAL. THE DR. IS SO CARING AND THE HOSPITAL IS THE CLEANEST I HAVE SEEN. THERE IS A LITTLE LANGUAGE ISSUE BUT YOU ARE GIVEN A "CHEAT SHEET" WHEN YOU ENTER THE HOSPITAL THAT HELPS ALOT WHEN TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE HOSPITAL STAFF. ALSO THE SHERATON HOTEL IS CONNECTED BY A GLASS WALKWAY TO THE MALL THEREFORE YOU CAN GO SHOPPING THE DAY AFTER SURGERY. DR. ZAPATA'S FEE WAS $6990.00 THIS FEE INCLUDED THE SURGERY, 1 NIGHT IN THE HOSPITAL 2 NIGHTS IN THE SHERATON HOTEL, A DRIVER, ALL TRANSFERS, A PATIENT ADVOCATE AT THE HOTEL, AND FREE FILLS FOR A YEAR. AFTER ALOT OF RESEARCH AND WORRY I AM SO GLAD I WENT AHEAD AND WENT TO MEXICO. I BELIEVE HAD I CHOSEN TO HAVE SURGERY IN THE STATES I WOULD STILL BE WAITING AND I KNOW IN THE END I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE NEVER GO THROUGH WITH IT. I HAVE LOST 28 LBS. IN 7 WEEKS. I AM GOING TO DALLAS NEXT WED. FOR MY SECOND FILL. I USE DR. MEASE IN DALLAS TEXAS. FOR MY FILLS. HIS FEE IS $200.00 WHICH COVERS THE FILL WITH FLOROSCOPY.

Shut UP!!!! Don't say that too loud. I did and my scales quit working or went on strike! lol

I don't know bout the lawn mower. I pushed it in a corner and walked off and left it. I was mad enough to bite a nail in two!!! So, if it's fatal, I don't really care. Walmarts has new ones. lol

And YES! you are right, I can't wait until this particular monday. I need a fill bad. I just can't lose anything, not matter what I try. I decidedI wasn't getting enough Protein, so I got powder to mix with stuff. I promise you, after I drink that stuff, I am so hungry, I could eat a double cheese burger from Randy's! So, I quit using that stuff after about 2 times.

Be good today. Talk to you later, k?

Your experience was identical to mine, word for word. I agree with it all. I'm also using Mease for my fills which the first will be tomorrow the 27 and I can't wait.I haven't been hungry until this week, and today on liquids for my pre-fill diet I think I'm starving. My banding was on 3/17. I had 2 friends in Mt. Pleasant who went through Ready4Achange and highly recommended it.

:omg: You have to be on a liquid pre-fill diet?? Man, I would cave in if I had to do a liquid diet before a fill. We do a 24 hour after the fill liquid diet.

Yes, 24 hours and I'm about to starve. I'll probably have to do 24 hours after too. Isn't it funny how the different docs require different things when we all have the same adjustments inside.

Yep, it's funny how different docs have different requirements for the same thing. I saw on another site where someone was only 2 weeks out and was asking about being stuck on a piece of chicken. I was kinda shocked that she was asking about it at 2 weeks.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
