Hi there,

I am almost 6 weeks out and I know how you feel. I was the same way. I barely lost 5 pounds the first two weeks and I was jealous at all the people losing like crazy. I felt so frustrated. Don't worry. It will come off! Follow your doctor's orders and it will drop off. Also, if you are constipated, talk to your doctor. I was too and he told me to take Milk of Magnesia and/or Miralax and that helped a lot! Good luck! I am sure you will do great!

First thing is don't get upset. Everyone loses at different paces. At this phase you need to focus on getting enough Water and Protein in. Don't even check your weight. Your body is adjusting to the major changes it went through. The weight loss will start when you least expect it. Stalls happen all throughout the process and it is very easy to get discouraged but know that if you are following the plan weight loss will happen. Good luck. The journey isn't always easy but it gets better as time goes by.

It sounds like you might not be getting 60 to 75 ounces of Water in per day. If you are slightly dehydrated you will have trouble with Constipation. Keep sipping on water- ALL day long. The scale will start to move.

Just wait! Get the Water in, consider dealing with the Constipation, and DON'T weigh every day (it drives ya crazy!).

It'll all work out as fast as your body can!

Ask dov what to take for Constipation like milk of magnesium. That helped me so much! Post surgery, I went 8 days with no bowel movement then took magnesium and cleared myself up!

Some people are just slow losers...me included. My first week I barely lost 2 lbs. Some people even report gaining. With the amount of food/liquid you are able to consume, you can't not lose weight. Remember that we didn't gain this overnight and it's not going to go away overnight. I get it the frustration though. You read about some who have lost like 18lbs their first week and it is a little maddening! But, you are on your own journey, not anyone else's.

At 4 weeks out I was down 12lbs, compared to others, not a whole lot, but it was 12 lbs I would still have on had I not had the surgery. Just keep your chin up and follow the plan your nutritionist gave you. It will come off when it's ready.

Hang in there and good luck!

What are you eating or drinking?

Your weight loss is not bad at all....Your body has gone through a trauma and is rebelling.....Be a little patient with yourself and don't weigh yourself to often....We all will have stalls and then lose again...

You are geared to lose the weight..Trust me...you cannot stop it.....

Start taking a stool softener, it will help with the other problem

Keep going forward, you are going to do it!!! :)

This was my experience. I'm exactly 4 weeks post op and down 7.2 lbs from my surgery date, 18.6 lbs from my highest. The first week I lost 1.2 lbs and was briefly disappointed until I learned that some people retain much Water from surgery and it takes some time to pass. The scale may be moving slowly but the inches certainly aren't! Check your measurements, how your clothes are fitting, the way your skin looks (there's a lot going on with my thighs)... this may help in the meantime.

Im 3-1/2 weeks out and losing about 1/2 pound a day or less. I was drinking 69g of Protein a day and drinking lots of Water. At my 3 week check up the Dr. said I need to up my protein and walk everyday and my weight loss will be faster. So I increased my protein to 90g and started walking 30 min outside. Now I'm losing almost a pound a day. I just started soft and pureed foods so I've increased my calories as well.

I am 3 weeks post-op today and am down 14 pounds from surgery and 37 from my highest. I think i am a slow loser too.

With that said, I have seen the most change since surgery in my body shape. I now have ankles! Measure yourself and you will see some changes! Don t get discouraged, as everybody says, get your Protein in and drink your Water.

Good luck!

I'm seven days out and lost 8 lbs. Make sure you are drinking fluids and drinking your Protein Shakes. Are you still on any pain meds? If so, that could be the reason why you are constipated. I am consuming 4 oz of Protein for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Between those times, I am drinking Water or Propel water zero and eating high protein yogurt. Good luck! Continue to walk around as much as possible as this will make your digestive track kick up again.

Sounds like you are doing everything right! They only thing I see is that you began at a relatively low starting weight. Maybe that is why you aren't having the major weight drops that people with a higher start weight may have. I'm 4'11", started at 211 and am down 15lbs to 196. I also have an underactive thyroid, so I think that plays a part in my slower loss as well. Are you possibly on any medications that may inhibit the weight loss a little? It's hard sometimes, but I'm trying really hard not to compare myself so much to other peoples success. It is very discouraging. I'm trying to look at it from the point of view that I am losing at a bit slower, possibly healthier rate. It isn't easy all the time, but it is still early in the game and there is a lot of time left on the clock! WE can do it!!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
