The clear part of the tube was located outside my stomach....If my doctor wasn't out of town, it would have came out this Monday. I figure my body was pushing it out anyways because its ready to heal. And I'm feeling so much better healing can now continue to take place around the incision.

I wasn't offended. I used to work on the surgery ward and I saw those things up close and personal every day. I had one after my surgery and it felt sooo good to get that thing out.

Ok. And yes after was such a big relief. I wonder if tonight I can lay on my right side....my favorite side. We shall see!

I wonder why some have tubes and some don't. I didn't have one. I find it so interesting.

It's some doctors use them and some don't. Before surgery my doctor told me he uses them, the main reason is to keep a eye out for possible leaks. I've read that leaks happen to people unknowingly and they find out after they get sick. And to drain out fluids that are there after surgery. Your body absorbs the Fluid without a drain anyways. And it also reduces infection. Some doctors only use them for 2 days, some one. I've read yesterday about a lady who had 6 after undergoing a full body lift to remove extra skin after weight loss surgery...some people also get them after gall bladder surgery.

They also use them if there is a lot go bleeding so a hematoma doesn't form under the skin :)

I had a drain like that, but they removed it before I left the hospital. The bulb kept getting in my way. I am amazed and impressed you could remove it yourself!

I am so happy to hear that I am not the only one that has been , to say the least MISERABLE! Incision pain, chest pain (hard to breath), heart burn that is so intense that I WANT to vomit. Hard to get on an eating plan when you are feeling like this.

I had my first post-op apt on Thursday. Met with my nut, nurse practitioner, & surgeon. I'm down 11 pounds since surgery, but all 3 of them told them that they don't even focus on the amount of weight lost until 3 to 4 months down the road. They want me to focus on getting used to the new diet, and making sure I get my 60g Protein a day and 48 to 64oz of Fluid a day. Everything is going great...still having muscle pain at one of my incision site and he said that would probably last several weeks while the muscle he sutured back up heals. And I got to move to my pureed/mushed diet!!! A scrambled egg never tasted so good....could only eat about half of 1 large egg, but it was still something to chew!! Hope everyone's journey is still going well!!

Once I removed the tape, it started coming out on its own. A few light pulls and voila, it was out! Didn't feel a thing. :)

I' was sleeved on 9/24. I had a slow first week including a day of crying and total breakdown. I mistakenly watched the food Channel without any thought to what that was going to do to my mind.

Once I realized I was sabotaging my recovery I nipped the tv and started doing projects- work a little, rest a little. It has worked for me!

I didn't have any drains so I can't imagine how much fun that would have been but I totally relate to laying on my right side. I still use a pillow to help support the incisions. The left ones were doozies - I never even had pain from any of the ones on the left.

My surgeon does five incisions but I got lucky with an extra one due to a large hiatal hernia that required two staples to repair!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
