Recommended Posts

I was craving a whopper for so long.. I decided to have a whopper jr. It was so delicious. I was a bit disappointed that I was able tolerate the entire thing.. I don't have trouble getting anything down. It's scary..still until this day, I feel that my sleeve was not done properly. I'm 4 months out. Eating way too much..

Hey Amazon... don't sound so offended. Really. I was just saying what is true for me. I had surgery' date=' I've lost 60 pounds in 3 months, I am just being honest about my day. And yes, it was completely possible for me to eat a burger. No need to be "unsure" about anything. No need for congratulations... It's just my story... Glad you aren't tempted by fast foods!!![/quote']

Don't let Amazon upset you. She lost her weight in record time and stuck to the diet and exercise regime to the letter. She is kind of like a reformed smoker, has forgotten about her sins of the past and likes to preach. I find that as long as you don't go overboard, the occasional burger or glass of wine doesn't stop your weight loss. I lose weight no matter what I eat or drink. I mean my stomach is now a fraction of the size it used to be, and so is yours, how could you not lose weight.

Thanks for being my phsychologist!! Far from forgotten but I don't believe anyone should get a "high five", for eating junk food, this food will NOT help us to maintain our weight loss. This is not my first kick at the can and for me the smell and look of fast food is revolting!! Do a little research first into the calorie/fat/sodium content in these foods and I am sure you will think twice about eating it. It is much healthier to cook/make your own burger than any fast food. Isn't fast food what got us to this point in the first place? Reverting to old habits? Just a slippery slope to ride on and then we will be hearing, "Why am I not losing weight"?

Good for you! Sometimes you need to break a rule once in a while. I have no desire for bread and hope I never do and I used to love Cuban bread with butter and strong coffee. Yum! I don't think I would be offended by Amazon, or other strong replies. We are all on here for a reason: for support, information, laughter, ideas, advice, etc! I think some people care so much that they do not want to see anyone fail. While I do not want to see you fail- you do have a tool. How you handle and take care of it is solely up to you! You know what you can handle. I like anti bands suggestion with the lettuce wrap! I never would have thought of that!! Before my decision to have this surgery I ate fast food constantly. Sometimes I would have 2 burgers ha ha. I hope that you are doing well and have an awesome weekend!!

So what is it that you want us to say? Congratulations you ate a cheeseburger!! Or why would you want to eat crap fast food......................I hope that it is the latter.

Uhhh...lighten up lady. Live and let live. You know the saying ...If you can't say something nice>>>>>.etc.

To the cheeseburger eater - i hope it was the best cheeseburger you ever had. I had 3 bites of a BBQ sandwich last night at a concert. It was DELICIOUS and it was just too bad I had to give the rest to my son because I got full after the 3 bites. Oh - and I also had about 1/3 of a margarita. That was all I could hold. And it was darn good. ( Now I will sit and wait to be blasted for enjoying myself and prepare myself for the "You will FAIL" statements from the know-it-all experts)

I had a cheeseburger too for the first time after working several night shifts in a row and really got very few calories in for days! But not the Bun. I also just ate the meat and cheese, I don't crave bread, lettuce or any thing else that normally go with it. I really don't crave fast food much. I'd rather cook and desire the finer more healthy food anyhow.

Good morning.. I am surprised at this stage you can eat a WHOLE Cheeseburger. I am 18 months out and I would have had to eat that in two sittings. I can eat 1/2 of a sandwich thin sandwich of tuna or turkey etc. Did you not have any feelings of fullness prior to finishing it off? I have only "over eaten" one time and I was miserable. I don't eat beef but any time I eat dense Protein like chicken it fills me up fast. I'm happy that you enjoyed it and was able to eat it without adverse effects, but remember that your stomach can stretch to some degree and it would be easy to slip into old habits. The best advice that my Dr ever gave me was to always eat on a tea cup plate. Even in a restaurant I ask for my box immediately and only leave what would fit on a the smaller plate to actually consume. Good luck to you.

I don't crave bread, lettuce or any thing else that normally go with it.

I crave a lettuce salad with Ranch dressing, croutons, a little shredded cheese, a little bit of bacon and sunflower seeds. I mean CRAVE - as in, I sometimes dream I am sitting down to a HUGE salad. I know I can eat a salad, but I only have a small bite because Veronica (my sleeve) fills up too quickly. Way too quickly - which is a good thing, but my mind is devastated sometimes.

I also eat on a small plate. I think it's a bread or dessert plate. We even bought extra ones so that I have a stack of 10. We had already switched to using luncheon plates for our meals about a year prior to surgery. The hubs only uses a regular plate now if it is a holiday meal or if a baked potato is part of a meal - he has to mash his out all over the plate practically. We use Corelle dishes because my Rheumatoid arthritis made it hard to carry the stoneware. This is super handy though because there's a Corelle store at the factory outlet mall - individual pieces are super cheap.

LOL, I have not had a baked potato since surgery March 6, 2013 but that's funny cause I like to smash mine out over the plate too.

Well, actually, I plan to try a hamburger one day. I will get the small/regular size cheeseburger & hope that I can tolerate the bread since I've not incorporated it into my meals yet. I thought to myself..."hmmm....Will you want to try a french fry??" But, I just don't even think that a french fry sounds good at all. I just think of grease. Cheeseburgers were one of my fav foods to eat before surg & I plan to treat myself to one or portion of one every now & then in the future. I think I'll try the Jr. Whopper. Yummy!

Never stated I was a know it all just realistic comments and I am far from an expert but I presume unlike yourself I have dieted in the past and failed and I don't want to repeat it.

I see nothing wrong with splurging sometimes. And I don't think you should feel guilty. It's not like you are doing it every day. Just because we are sleeved doesn't mean we are never going to go out to eat again. Of course making healthy choices is important. LOL. I'm curious if you ate it with the bread?

I'm two weeks out I'm craving chicken salad.

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
