Recommended Posts

LA and Tied- I watched the show too. I just loved it!! It hit home for me as well...got a little teary eyed myself. It's amazing how the power of the possitive can have such a wonderful effect on you when you're down. And....OMG....did they not just pick out the perfect person as the host of that show....HE CRACKS ME UP!!!!!!

I met with Paula last week over the phone. Not looking forward to the no-carb thing....but I know it is going to pay off. I may start it a little early like L.A. did. Sounds like it will work out. So far I've lost 15lbs since the beginnig of the year. I WILL loose at least another 15 before surgery on Feb 26.....I CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone! Thought I'd pop in and say hello from the East coast, since I haven't in awhile. I've been reading about all these accomplishments -- you ALL are doing awesome! Please keep adding the pictures -- you're shrinking before my very eyes and it is so cool to see your smiling faces! Lots of family issues (old and new) and work issues going on here and I'm trying to hold the depression monster at bay (some days better than others), but if there is a positive in this situation it's been that I'm not eating my way through it this time (thank you, thank you, thank you my dear lap band!) and feel like at least I've got some control over food, when everything else is out of control.

It picks me up every time I come here, gives me hope, and re-directs my focus onto something positive. I bet you didn't realize the power of your posts, did you? :welldoneclap: Thanks.

Take care and have a wonderful week everyone.

Hey Shelbi~nice to hear from you again. Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time hang in there don't allow that depression monster free...keep the positive thoughts and positive visualization upfront.

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to jump in and give an update on my progress, and see if anyone had any input for me. I was banded on 1/9 and am still in a significant amount of pain. I don't have the Shoulder "gas" pain that has been talked about - but my stomach is KILLING me. It hurts to breath, walk, and I got the hiccups a couple times, I thought I was going to die! Every time I feel like I need to burp - it feels like my chest is on FIRE and then nothing comes! I know its only day 4 - plus I had my surgery in the afternoon - but I just thought I might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel by now. I do not feel hungry, so wanting to eat is not an issue. However, my pain meds are not very effective - plus they make me a little nauseous :welldoneclap: I have to go back to work on Wednesday! I am so worried that I am not going to be ready - I don't want to spark any suspicion at work either. Anyone have any advise or input on the pain I am feeling? It feels like a big ball of fire in my tummy. More specifically, I guess its underneath my left rib cage - Oh, and where is my port? I have no clue. My incisions are bleeding a little under the tape - I assume this is normal. Thanks everyone - sorry for the long post - just feeling a little down. Thanks!

Sunshine - Call Dr. K and ask. There is probably nothing wrong but you need to ask his office. We support you and give you hugs, but call Monday am. OK???

Mal - thanks for those positive thoughts. He is a little better tonight, but it is slower than it was in December. at least this time we have a plan to do a scope around spring break, so he has a chance to heal.

Woofay - way to go. I have 9 pounds more to lose to get to my drivers license weight. Aren't we silly to lie?

Dee - you are getting closer. Yeah!

I am pooped, but enjoyed reading everything.

Hugs all,

Michelle

Hi, Dynamo...

Just wanted to send some positive thoughts out to you and your son. I wish him strength to get through this hard time! I am not exactly sure of the issue, but it sounds similar to something my family has faced in the past with my brother. I am happy to say he is six years clean & sober on 1.17.2008!

Take care of you!!!

Lydia

Brandy!!!! Yay Onderland! Good going girl! I have 9 more pounds to Onderland...and I just can't wait! We're so proud of you!

Dynamo~ Yes, the driver's license lie is silly. But I've always done it. This last one that I got here in Colorado was my biggest lie, of 50 lbs when I got it. Then, of course, I wasn't satisified with that and gained even more weight! Hahahahaha! I guess my next license I won't have to lie about my weight...sooooooooo, guess I'll just have to start getting younger on the next one! Ha! Hope your son starts feeling better. Glad to see they have some things planned to help determine the reasons for this. (spring break tests).

Marilyn~ how is that unfill treating you? Wanna hear something funny? For the last three days, I've been able to eat again.:confused::Banane42: I feel so much better. I even had salmon and green Beans last night...with no problems. Not like a mega ton, mind you, but it didn't even feel slightly bad. Hmmmmmmmm? Who knows? If this keeps up, I guess I can cancel my appointment on Friday.

LA~ 4 more days!!!!!

Shelbi~ good to hear from ya! Sorry to hear about your depression struggles. I'm right there with you. Is there something that you do to "make things better" when you can't use food? Any advice would be helpful!

Hey, where's our token guy? John, how ya been???

Have a great day, All! I think I'll be able to get those pics posted sometime this afternoon...Darnit! Where did our smilies go???!!!! Where do we complain to???? Waaaaaah!:frown: They can't just smiley push us around like this!

Sunshine -- I felt the same way, more pain then I expected. I remember by day 5 I was feeling a lot better. So hang in there. I had bleeding as well. I am still a little achey, however not enough that anybody notices. The only person who knows is my hubby, so I just pass it off as cramps and that seems to work.

Sunshine~how are you doing today? Did you call Dr. K? I hope you are feeling better.

Shelbi~how are things with your son? Hang in there!

LA~ Thursday will be here before you know it!! YIPEEE for you! I watched part of that show, I thought it was going to be stupid, so I didn't watch the begining. I was wrong, I think that show is great!

Woofay~got any good boobie pix...shhhh..LOL Happy to hear that you are able to eat a little better. Maybe being sick with the flu swelled your band a little and now it might be adjusting??? I wish I could take your appointment on fFriday if you cancel. I am going to call and see if he can give me a fill on the 31st (I'm already closed for that day). Did you get our smilies back yet??((picture of ehat would be a really cute smiley)).

Dynamo~How is Todd feeling today? I can't believe he has to wait until Spring to have a scope, that seems so long to wait. How are you holding up? Take a mental break today, okay?

Amie

Amieru,

I totally agree with you! Carson is the best person to host that show! I watched the repeats again last night so that my daughter could see it. He's just squeezable! He's very sweet and gentle with the girls' feelings about themselves. Besides the fact that he's adorable. I loved the part when they were at the spa and he was in the tub. Silly boy! I have a really good friend who is gay and he always makes me feel pretty and special. I wonder why straight men can't do the same. Maybe because they are afraid we'll fall in love with them. Which is probably a very valid fear!

Oh well....

Life goes on....

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
