I am always skeptical of nutritional supplements and tend to lean toward fresh whenever possible. I'm a HUGE fan of juicing. I have an auger style juicer (Omega 8004/8006) that is FANTASTIC at juicing greens. During my preop, I'd make a Protein shake and then juice up half a pound kale and some ginger and mix it in my Protein Shake along with some chia seeds.

Unfortunately fresh vegetable juices are the very LAST thing, along with citrus and seeds, that I'm allowed to add back in so I can't have any juice for 5 and 1/2 more weeks but just as soon as I can, I'll be adding it back in.

Some will say go with a nutribullet or vitamix and blend.. YUCK. it's just too thick. Blending is great for fruits to make smoothies.. but in my opinion, KALE is not great blended because of all the fiberous parts that makes the blend too thick. So if I wanted to make a smoothie, I'd blend up my fruits to maintain all the good Fiber of the fruit, and then juice up my vegetables to get all the good nutrients out of them and then pour my vegetable juice into my fruit smoothies.... yummilicious.

Thanks for sharing. You are most likely right in your comments regarding fresh everything. I like powders because of the convenience and cost. Unless you have a good garden, it is hard to gather up all the necessary fruits, veggies and grasses to match what is in a powder. Juicing is just as good as powders, if not better ( do not know, not a juicer) and is another path to the same goal. Keep up the good work. I know you are a new post op, but I have been following your comments for a while. Always thoughtful.

I hope you like them! I need a little bit more zest on the Amazing Grass original flavor so add a little desani drop pineapple/coconut flavor. Really does the trick and now it is pretty good to drink. Another lady said adding coconut Water might help. Looks like coconut flavor really helps the grass flavor out; otherwise it is a minty alfalfa grassy taste.

Time to order a new supply of green grass drink. I ordered original flavor last time and it was good for the most part. Does anyone have comments on the other flavors?

Garden of Life Perfect food, all whole foods and garden of life is a very reputable company.

It tastes like crap but I suck it down and rinse with a Protein drink lol.

I am going with the old motto if it tastes bad it must be good for you :)

A drink can have teaspoon' date=' tablespoon, 1/2,1,2,3, as you like, the liquid state its in makes it so it goes quickly into action, added to that you can mix it with numerous things, Protein drink, blenderized greens and veg's, other superfood, goji, almonds, what have you, add sweetner, agava Syrup, a cacoa product and then its taste is better as well.

You would need 6,12,18 capsules to duplicate this at one time. Sorry, I know the taste bugs people, I feel I am set with what I like though the way i do things now.

Just my thinking on it, I am doubting the pills are super duper charged in comparison or something.

heres one I liked as alternatives for thought, http://www.dragonherbs.com/prodinfo.asp?number=686

the site has loads of elixors and extracts, pills, base chinese herbal stuff, not all are my interest, I recently started using Chinese herbals Astragalus Root and India's Gotu Kola finding good results.

Went back and looked at the Amazon Reviews and the company web site on the Tonic Alchemy green drink. I have placed an order for this and see how it compares to Amazing Grass. There are SO many green drink options out there to research. Hopefully, this will be a great experience. No issues with Amazing Grass, but do want to try some other products to find what I interpret as the best alternative. Thanks everyone for your comments so far. This is a constant learning experience as a post op.

Got the Green Tonic Alchemy today from Amazon. Really fast delivery - good. The taste is about the same as Amazing Grass so I added some coconut/pineapple flavoring. Now it went down faster.

Holy cow, this stuff makes you feel good. And more than the energy burst. After 15 minutes, I felt my back inflammation go away. Awesome! This stuff really does have some ant-inflammatory ingredients in it. For this reason alone, it would be worth taking but I also appreciate the energy and quiet alertness that comes from a good green drink.

I also appreciate that it has many different types of fruit in a single scoop. 71 total fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Thanks for the recommendation on this product.

How do you feel this compares with the Amazing Grass? I just ordered the sample pack of Amazing Grass and am waiting for it to arrive. I would be interested in trying this as well. I need to look at the nutrition info though.

I find Tonic Alchemy superior to Amazing Grass and am currently on my second bottle of it. Love it! It not only helps me with energy and detox, but also with inflammation issues. 71 different veg, fruit and herbs. Taste is not bad.

Got my sample pack of Amazing grass today and jut tried the original. I mixed it in grape juice (was afraid to try it in just Water and figured grape juice has the strongest flavor I could think of) and it was tolerable. Ill try one of the flavors tomorrow.

If it is a matter of taste, try mixing the amazing grass with a Water flavor that you like. For example, I mix mine with Dasani coconut / pineapple flavor and it becomes much easier to drink. I have found the Tonic Alchemy flavor is much better then Amazing Grass so does not need any supporting flavor enhancer. Regardless, both are good products.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
