January Bandsters???

Today is day 2 of solids for me and I am feeling good!

I felt very tight in the morning and had a coffee with plain soymilk. For lunch I had 2 moist crab cakes with a mayo can relish dip. I knew I was full when I felt like I needed to sit up and had to do like an inverted burp. Then I got a little twinge in my abdomen.

I am trying to aim for 1200 calories a day. Even if on South Beach you don't have to count, I will count till I know how much I should eat because i don't want to under eat.

BabyGotBack,

How long was your stomach sore for? Today is day 5 for me and I was just wondering. I am still getting shoulder pain every now again. I am returning to work tomorrow. I will try and make it all day but I sit for 12 hours and was thinking i may need to lay down a little.

Well, tomorrow is all Clear Liquids, for one day prior to surgery. Tonight my father is cooking for me; lobster tail and filet mignon from Omaha Steaks. Mom opened a bottle of Korbel to reflect my 'Going, Going, Gone' attitude with the weight.

I know compared to many of you who have had a long pre op diet; this seems like non-sense. But regardless, tomorrow is going to be difficult for me. No solids, and the day before surgery. Yikes. Nerves are creeping in for sure. I definately couldn't be any more ready than I am now. I am just wanting to be healthy. I've packed my overnight back for the hospital, got my Rx's together and I think that's it. I'll be sure to check in tomorrow. Alot 'busy' stuff planned to keep me going and the mind occupied. I'm hoping I sleep LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sherilynn, it's all relative.

I do envy you your filet and lobster tail. I had been on Optifast for 4 weeks, so my appetite was far gone. My "last supper" the night before surgery was 1 cup of whole wheat noodles with Tomato sauce and a small bag of doritos. LOL! Boy was it good!:hungry:

My stomach was never really sore from the surgery. I did have gas pain in my stomach for about 3 days. The shoulder pain is gas too. The reason I didn't have such bad gas was because I threw up after surgery and when I was throwing up, gas was forcefully coming out of my mouth. It was so weird.

Tylenol liquid helped me in the beginning. Also a nice heating pad on the stomach and shoulder. I used to lay on mine at night.

My friend told me it took a month for all the gas to come out!

Today went well. I was able to have a sirloin hamburger patty with mushrooms, 1/2 cup black Beans with cheddar cheese for dinner.

I got in 1230 calories, 81 grams of Protein.

I knew I was done when I had to sit up and take a deep breath.

I feel comfortable and satisfied. I didn't feel like pbing.

My fat intake was high, 80 grams. I think that is too high. I guess I can only takle one thing at a time. Today I was tring to focus on getting 1200 calories in and protein. The higher calorie foods are high in fat. I have to work on that.

Today was a good day!

I stocked up too. I found a great deal on a Sunbeam twin blanket for $21.00 at Wal-Mart to have an all over heating pad since I have to sleep partially sitting up on the couch after surgery. I had my gallbladder out in October and could not lay down in my bed for a week!

Hello everyone!!

I can't believe that I only have 2 days left. Clear liquids tomorrow and getting mentally prepared! I am excited and nervous. I think I ate all of my favorite foods this weekend knowing that I will be looking at food very differently for the rest of my HEALTHY life. I said my prayers in church today for a speedy recovery and a smooth surgery. I wish everyone here the best and I thank you for sharing so much with me. I have learned more here than anywhere.

Christine

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
