January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

I had my anesthesia consultation over the phone yesterday morning. It's finally seeming real! Only 10 more days! Today is my appointment with the hematologist. Please everyone send me good vibes -- I need him to clear me for surgery!

Well, two weeks from now I'll be banded, I'm nervous but excited too. I'll be on vacation for a week so it'll keep my mind of it, or maybe it'll make me think more!

Went to my PCP today and she was so supportive of my surgery, she was more excited than I was, and wants to see me 6 weeks post op and hopefully decrease my blood pressure medication.

I had my endoscopy yesterday, I was so nervous about it, but I don't remember anything. I just remember being wheeled into a room, having some numbing spray sprayed in my mouth by Dr. Valin, and then we were all talking about vacations, next thing I know I saw him inject something into my IV and he said nighty night, next thing I know I'm in a recovery room singing along with a Rolling Stones song (I hope quietly!).

I felt good after that, I wanted to sleep, but I didn't until about midnight but I feel okay.

How is everyone doing? Hope you have a good weekend, I have to pack and get ready for vacation!

Yeah I did and it was GOOD!!! I just stuck it in the freezer for about 1 hour and shook it! I loved it. Yeah, you can probably add beano to it or I use Silk Soy milk vanilla and it tastes really good. Soy milk doesn't give gas.

Audree

My dietician said that soy milk is fine but the flavored has sugar. I guess I'll try the beano. I am glad you liked the frozen drink. yum...I am drinking some right now!!!

Thanks!!!

I had a false start too on Dec. 18 and then finally got my surgery Jan. 5, 2007. I just used the time to get my stuff together and get as prepared mentally as I could.

These boards have been invaluble to me! I have learned so much!

We can be the January 30th Triplets!!:clap2:

I am so excited about being given the opportunity to shed this "fat suit" I've been wearing the last ten years. How 'bout you?

Texasbighair - I love your name!!

I got out and about today and had my hair cut and checked in with the office. I came back home exhausted but I think that is pretty normal. I have to work tomorrow for about 5 hours so I hope I can handle it.

Does anyone that have their band have a weird feeling like you are being squeezed every once in a while???

I'm on day four post op, no hunger at all.

I was banded on the 9th at NWWLS in Everett, and so far it has been a good recovery.

The toughtest part of the operation for me was when they delivered the antibiotics through an IV before going in. They said there may be some transient naseua, and sure enough, there was. It was like having the 2 minute flu. Scared the heck out of my huibby. After that, they took me into the surgery room and put an oxygen mask over my face and said, "This is just oxygen right now but in a minute we will be giving you the anethetic and....(fade to black)"

They discovered a hiatel hernia while they were operating and repaired it (explains the acid reflux). That was the only thing out of the ordinary.

Today is my first day back at work and so far so good.

Hi all, Welcome all you new January bandsters. Do not despair, Angy & I will get you added to our master list. Angy will have to update the first post, since I can't edit her post. But we'll get everyone added in. My master list is at work on my computer, so I have to wait until I get back to work on Monday.

Marjon9 - you were right, they first gave me this mask that went completely over my face & nose. I tried really hard to get used to it, I really did. But finally I felt like I was going to suffocate, so I told them i had to have another mask. They then brought me a mask that fit right under my nose, I slept so good after that!

Today I started my pre-op diet! I woke up so excited because it is finally happening. Two more weeks and I'll be a true bandster. :clap2:

Audree- Thanks for the pic of the scar. It makes me feel better about Dr. Oritz and his work.

Audree- Thanks for the pic of the scar. It makes me feel better about Dr. Oritz and his work.

He is really, really good. My scars will be very unnoticable. He sutures from the inside and uses surgical crazy glue on the outside to hold the wound closed. It has a better result of a scar. It was a perfect experience. The only thing that happened was I threw up after surgery, but I always get like that after surgery of any kind.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
