I remember your post and your pain and heartache from all that was occurring.

You are still in my thoughts and prayers and you deserved better care than that!!

Thank you! Very much appreciated :) I am doing much, much better now.

Being lazy and your age has nothing to do with getting the sleeve in my opinion. Just because your doctor did not give you test others may have had does in no way mean they were tested because of laziness!? Little confused myself by that statement..

There is so much drama on this post.......I'm going to back out of it...........give yourselves some peace by not posting replies.... the stress your causing yourself and why are people reacting so much to this.....so what if it's accurate or not, look inside yourself and discover why it's affecting you so much......this is a life long pattern. Bye everyone see you on other posts......

I I almost forgot I haven't found 1 surgeon who doesn't order a barium swallow upper gi X-ray to ENSURE you don't have a leak that is standard practice in EVERY US hospital

I never had a leak test and I was sleeved in Scottsdale AZ....

Edit: seems like something was wrong from the beginning. I would request my records from the hospital. You should get any films that were made as well. You can then compare those studies to the studies you had at 7 weeks at what time your Dr. Said your stomach was sleeved. Now I would say your dr seems like an idiot but according to OTR idiots don't make it through med school. ( whatever)

All types make it through med school...look up some criminal cases against medical doctors.

Drs are not above being idiots IMO

Or are they above having intent on a procedure but I edited this as to not accuse but only suggest anything is possible IMO

You know what they call the guy to finish last in his med school class? DOCTOR !

Yep, doctors can be idiots and incompetent.....

I had a D.O. tell me years ago (upon learning that I worked for a veterinarian) that he had applied for vet school...but wasn't smart enough! His own words....

Well I'm sorry that you feel that way. I didn't make this post to prove anything to you. I simply posted it because I wanted to know if anyone else went thru the same thing.

He did X-rays today's and That's how he came about the reason. I have already requested my surgery pictures today. I do know that I didn't have to drink the leak test stuff in the hospital because they said it was no need. I have a close friend that had the surgery in march of 2012' date=' she referenced me to her surgeon for a second opinion. Once I have all that I need to know I will glad upload pics and paper.

This is not something that I came up with. As I have stated in previous post. I have never felt ANY of the things that you all have felt. I was in weds and out Friday on the treadmill sat and back at work on Monday. With not a on e of Any pain Meds. I walk and or work out 5 days a week. I eat what I am suppose to. I live with someone who had the surgery 6 months before me so if I were eat wrong she would have let me know. Only thing that she has ever said to me was that she thinks that I drink to much Protein. I am very afraid of losing my hair. My doc td me as long as I get my Protein in I should be fine. So I drink protein all day long. Drinking wise I probably get 120 grams a day not including the food I eat.

This is already a stressful thing for me so please please don't tell me I am confused about something that my SURGEON has told me. Weather it be right or wrong I no what was said to me. So I am now taking it to the me t level to get the problem fixed. Once again I just wanted to know of any surgeons I. My area or has anyone ever went thru this before.[/quote']

You know it makes you wonder if they did anything inside you. I'm glad your getting help from another doctor

Now you have. My surgeon doesn't do that type of leak test. They perform a leak test while you're still under in surgery.

My leak test was also done in surgery. Which to me makes much better sense -- why wait until you are out of surgery to detect a leak? If there is a leak then it's back to surgery. It also saves the patient from having to go through what appears to be a pretty miserable experience ( based on what I've read on VST). Just my opinion.

I haven't read through all these posts. You certainly can ask Aetna to investigate.

I just want to say this "IF" she is taking in all that Protein she claims "IF" it is possible to gain the weight ONLY if she is using a weight gainer formula Protein Drink. Some weight gainers have as much as 1800-2000 calories per serving. But I was sleeved on 1/7/13 I'm down about 25 post op and I can eat. I eat more than I see people posting here. I can eat almost a full 18 ounces of Soup at a time but can only handle 2 eggs with a slice of turkey ham and 1 slice of cheese. I've been reading this blog since it was started and been researching this non stop and it is physically impossible for this to happen if she was sleeved. It just can't happen in that short of a time period and even more so for someone to gain 20 pounds in 7 weeks is a ton of weight in a short period as well. Something is very fishy about this blog.

To gain a true 20 pounds of fat would require an extra 70,000 calories (each pound represents 3500 calories) over what her body burns to maintain her current weight.

The only reasonable explanation is that most of that 20 lbs in Fluid retention. Unless of course she is somehow consuming a 5 Ben & Jerry's pints a day.... of course there could be some kind of fluke thing.....

Hope they find out the problem. Good luck obs...

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
