Treadmills- who actually uses them?

Recommended Posts

Hi again,

hope I didn't overwhelm you with my needs and why I want a treadmill earlier.

Any way, first spec I looked at was how much weight can the machine hold, judging that may help if you'd like to see that it is sturdy. Other than that I looked for if the console was not to sufficticated and hard to program, and that it had a kill switch, actually hate the big old ones that ran more than i wanted to at the gym, kill switch is a good option, third was size, I didn't want one to big and feared a real small one was going to be junk.

I went through a ton of reading on sales and all, when it came time to purchse, I redirected my thought and felt I may not get stuck if the treadmill manufacturor was reputable and established.

Simply took a shot to look at Nordictrack and saw those things and a better price, plus a few things, a tab that goes up 1 mile per hour at a time and down as you run you can reprogram, console has whats in yurs and more if you pay for a service to connect, unsure if yours is set up with out any connection like that, most are. I noticed quickly the cheapest one they sell was on a sale price kind of perminent, it holds 350 pounds. It also folds and ramp tilts up to add to your run too, but not like a really expensice one but enough for me.

Thats it, NordicTrack T 5.7 Treadmill http://www.nordictrack.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_-1_10301_12401_59002_183119

I'm a big fan of getting out and training, unless you live in a climate (weather or crime) where that can't happen.

You can feel self concious at first. But eventually I realised it was just in my head, because no body cares!

I can remember lying on the floor at a gym 10 years ago with a trainer trying to get me to do one sit up. He could tell I was self concious. Being the up front person he was, he called it as he saw it.

He said "Every one here is trying to get fitter. Your lying on the floor thinking your a loser. Nobody here cares what you're doing. The losers aren't here. They're home eating potato chips on the couch".

Weather it's true or not, it worked for me.

I do Crossfit now. I'm a pretty good lifter and when it comes to weigh lifting sessions I do ok. Other stuff like chin ups etc, I have nothing. But I'm there, having a go.

Good luck with the c25k - looks awesome! :)

Deano

PS - I'm not calling anyone or any particular lifestyle a loser here. The concept is more that you're a winner for getting amongst it. Don't bash me! :P

Oh dean! It's like 14 degrees outside right now and I'm a big time introvert. I also have a billion kids. I thought this might be a good way to get a run in, while the kids are napping, bit k do fear that I'm going to drop big bucks (to us) on something that's going to sit. And take up space. Our house isn't big and I dislike clutter as much as I dislike group settings. Lol

Sigh.

Maybe I'll just get a new dishwasher. Haha

You have zoned further into my world friend;

"I'm a big fan of getting out and training, unless you live in a climate (weather or crime) where that can't happen."

It's not only cold in my city and I began joging in the last city I was in where things are worse, lol, that's quite realistic, who wants to jog through no man's land in the early AM while the smog rises, the vampires are still out there. Oh boy, I shouldn't had said, but I'll give you that much of it and so I did. I used to do it as I had places to go and skip the transit in exchange. It's much nicer up here in my high rise rather than being combat ready to get in a nice run.

What's your guys' opinion in that new thing... (Can't remember the name) it's a mix btwn a tread mill/ climber, and elliptical? You walk but each side goes up and down. I think it's a bow flex? It claims to burn twice as many calories in the same amount of time. Anyone use those?

I love my treadmill. Weather is iffy and when below 30 degreas I hate being outside. Dogs get their walk but not enough for calorie burn doc wants. I have SOLE equipment. Like precor more expensive but is commercial grade. Had mine for several years but I love having it. Used it before surgery 4days a week. Just ate more than I walked! Ha!

I love my treadmill (Proform Power 995 Treadmill) I wanted a good one and also wanted to make sure I could fold it up. It was expensive, but I was able to pay a portion of it using gift cards.

I want a treadmill bad! I had a gym membership but I quit going cos I have 3 little kids and it was a pain havig to pack them up and take them all with me. The gym had someone to watch them but it was just a hassle. By the time I got there I felt like i already did a work out. I want a treadmill so I can just run while te kids nap or watch cartoons.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
