I was having a hard time sipping also, I think I wqs dehydrated yesterday. Saw the dr today for my drain out and went and bought a sippy cup also. I was told that was one of the best ways to keep your sips small. Just hope I start feeling better soon!!

my belly has been itching a bit i guess a sign of healing..

hi all,

i was also sleeved on the 28th, in Marina Del Rey,Ca. I stayed in the hospital 2 nights, because i have a history of stroke. Honestly having that 2nd night with wonderful care was the best part of my healing process. AND my hubby got to sleep in my room with me :) My first day home was Sunday and the ride home was rough, grant it I live 2 hours away from the facility, so it was a rough ride. My doc told me not to worry about anything but resting the first day home, I'd have so much Fluid in me to chance of dehydration. So i slept about 16 hours total. it was nice!!

So fifth day and its getting better! Struggling with the Protein goal but im getting there and i know its making things work better!

So a couple of things, have anyone cough or thrown up????? What about lingering gas??? I dont have much much, but every one in awhile man it kills!!!

I'm so excited that i took this step, but still to close to say it was the best decision ;)

I would call the office tomorrow and ask about those bandages usually the bandages are removed day after surgery otherwise they could breed infection gl i think the first things to worry bout is staying hydrated

When I was leaving the hospital I showed the nurse as asked her to change my bandages and she said she isnt allowed to touch it the doctor would do so on my next visit..

My next visit is tomorrow btw I cant wait to have my post op visit. I need to go to the next stage. Im experienceing a bitof head hinger which is probably caused by my environment and tv. But I just have the urge to chew. I dont care if its raw broccolii lol

I have a question. Are any of you guys taking protien shakes on first stage diet? Im not nut a friend I know is. Im just wondering if your doctors took u off of protien and Vitamins untill further notice? Now im a bit confused.maybe im the one who has the missunderstanding.

Good morning 28'r!!!!! I hope everyone is feeling a little more human everyday!!! Things are moving more smoothly here!! Down 16 lbs since surgery day! I still have a little tenderness at a couple of my port sites. How is everyone doing with pain??? I'm still taking it easy, trying not to over do :) I can officially say today is the first day I feel that I am NOT going to say, "maybe I shouldn't have done this".

I hope all of you are doing a bit better everyday! Looking forward to hearing about how all of you are doing!! Now off to my Protein shake!

Msbatty I have to admit I too have the what did I get myself into thinking. I am feel better today, was actually able to drink some broth cuz I am getting sick of Jello and Popsicles. I have not been able to get my Protein in, I was nauseas yesterday ad the dr told me it may be from the milk based Protein Drinks and now I don't know what to drink cuz the Water based ones taste like crap to me. I just keep praying everyday I feel a little better and better.

MsBatty,

This first week has been a learning experience and a half.... I had my surgery on the 28th had to stay extra day due to vomiting and bp sky high after surgery.... I finally came home on Sunday felt weak but ok. My world literrally turned upside down with the next 48 hours of Constipation. I hadnt had a bm since Dec27. I wasnt expecting any complications within the first week but i literrally wanted to die Monday and Tuesday. I was in such pain and couldnt walk or see straight due to not being able to have a bm. I was straining and pushin so much on Tuesday because my body and mind were doing their own thing and i just couldnt help it. Needless to say my biggest incision is now bruised and one of the smaller incisions started to bleed late Tuesday night. I finally took milk of magnesia after calling dr office but i had taken Miralax monday and tuesday morning with no results at all. I was so desperate i took a stool softner because i just wanted my bottom to stop hurting from all the straining. Sorry for being so graphic but im being honest. Well i finally got relief from the miralax, milk of magnesia and stool softner at 4am on Wed. I was so afraid to go because i didnt know what would happen and my poor behind just couldnt take no more but once i started peein the bm started slowly trickling out and then the big one(yikes) i felt like a new woman constipation is no joke. Now its Thursday and my stomach churns growls feels bubbly and gassy since i had the bm yesterday. I feel like im starving but i know its the process that i must go thru to get to the end and this too shall pass :) No reqrets just a learning daily experience with a new tummy that i never had. With that being said i stepped on scale i discovered i lost 7lbs so far and i tried on a shirt that was very snug and its not as tight which is a plus. Best of luck to all 28'rs and your wl... Be BLessed

I had my surgery on 28th too... I stayed in the hospital 2 days because thats what my surgeon requires. I had nothing by mouth the first night... all that anesthesia in me and fluids dont mix... so my dr doesn't allow it for any of his patients... so the next day they started me on hit Decaf tea no sugar just tea bag and Water after like noon. I had a pain pump I slept a lot walk some nothing major. I waited until monday and took gas x and then at that point I passed gassed and on Tuesday I finally pooped.. I wasn't in pain or constipated though. I was also on fluids thru I.v they entire time I was in the hospital. I have a single incision because my surgeons group are the ones who started the single incision surgery... so I have one and its in my belly button. No bandages just a sealant type substance. Drinking once oz every 15 mins I start with my Protein shake 8oz then poweraid and beef broth.. I suck on popsicles thru out the day to make up for everything else. Ive losst 12 pounds since friday and 24 since my 2week pre op. Not as tired anymore either.. body is sore but im making it.

Hello fellow sleevers....I was a dec 28 girl too!! No nausea at all. I am in my mushy wet Protein stage per my groups plan...as tolerated of course. My worst prob is that during surgery with positioning or something pulled a back muscle or done something to my back...that has Been my biggest problem...horrible pain and hard to do anything with front and back pain ...but it is getting better....had the whole Constipation problem too...they should just start u on mirilax the week before surgery...is hard to get Fluid and protein down just because of the volume! Anyway, go sleevers!!!!!!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
