December 28th surgery date.

THis process has been such a long one. It started in January. I had my husbands insurance BCBS of Alabama. They do cover the surgery with 6 months of diet and excerice. You also have to have a 5 year weigh history of a Bmi over 40. So I did my 6 month of diet and excerice with tons of preop testing and even self paid for a psych eval and a EGD. We sent it to insurance and they denied me twice. My Bmi 5 years ago was a 39.8 not 40. I was so frustrated and upset. Then I told myself I'm going to get this surgery. I started looking into all the Mexican Doctors and places to have it done. My family was scared for me to go down there even though I did end up finding a good doctor there. I then came up with the idea of working full time instead of part time so that I could pick up Mercy insurance. So I did that and resubmitted to insurance they only require a 3 yr weight history. They said YES in one day. I still can't believe it's finally happening and Dr Roller was able to squeeze me this year so I don't have to repay my deductible. My surgery date is Dec 28th. So for everyone starting out on the journey. Don't give up if you want something bad enough you can always find a way

Congrats. I am on the waiting period now. They submitted my papers last Wednesday (12/12/12) and today the surgeons office called me to ask for a Diet History that the insurance us requesting. I don't know if that is a good or bad sign, but I have faith and I know everything is going to be just fine. I have a BMI of over 40, diabetic and high blood pressure. So don't think they have a reason to say no. I have a date 12/27/2012 but since the insurance has not approved yet I don't know if they will change the date. GOOD LUCK and please keep us posted.

i cant believe this time next friday a few of us will be recovering from such a major surgery.... there are so many emotions in me at the moment.... This is a very difficult decision and lifetime commitment but i am and cannot go on living in so much pain caused by being overweight.... As a preacher once said noone can tell your story like you and boy do i have a story to tell!!!! I have struggle with weight and pain for soooo many years i know its time for a change but fear keeps lurking around and if i will be much happier if the weight comes off.... I believe I will but also i think about how committed i have to be to this new lifestyle and way of eating.... I have done alot of research, conversated with other sleevers, spoke with doctors and the one thing keeps coming to my mind.... Am i ready for whats on the otherside of bariatric surgery!

i keep having scary thoughts too but i know its just jitters! i know i will look and feel better and be healthier!

Good luck each and everyone of you. It is a very exciting experience.. I had my surgery on 8/29/12.

It is rough the first couple of days but remember sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk....

First couple of days you might not get to much fluids into your tummy. IT is swollen, irritated and very sore...

Don't try and rush into the next stage of your post-op. take it one day at a time..
