Prayers Please

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 4 weeks postop and have had continuous abdominal pain- surgeon told me today there is nothing else he can do for me. Told me maybe I should see a chronic pain specialist. I've never had pain like this-I'm devastated I may never be pain free again. Maybe God's way of teaching me some lesson .

I am sorry to hear about your pain. I have no answers for you. Just that I will pray for you and that the doctors will figure something out.

What tests did your Dr run before he said there is nothing he can do for you?

Have you had an Endoscope?

Have you had an xray?

Have you had a cat scan with contrast?

Blood-work?

What were the results of your tests?

I will definitely pray for you but let us know what tests have been done

If your current surgeon says nothing more can be done, go find another surgeon!! Obviously something isn't right....don't give in, and let that non-answer be the final answer!

I sincerely hope you find a REAL answer, and solutions, and that your recovery improves!

I can't believe your surgeon told you that. I agree with what the previous posters have said. Praying for your wellbeing in the meantime!!!

Go get a second opinion......He's given up and that's not right..... I'd go see a gastrointestinal specialist and make sure I had an endoscopy test, CT, etc.....I might even keep calling him to complain and tell him that there's got to be something he can do to help you. Go as far as making a report to the licensing board and that will get him moving in the right direction. Let us know how it's going.....Don't give up, the pain is a sign that there's something wrong......Now it's search time.

I have had a CT scan with contrast, liver enzymes, amylase level, CBC, and Chemical profile. He gave me Celebrex and an abdominal binder(which I was already using). I saw him last on Wednesday and he told me to call him today to give him an update. When I called and said the pain was no better, maybe even worse, he seemed to get flustered and said, the CT scan was normal, I don't have a leak, a bleed, or an abscess, and an MRI would not be helpful, so he was sorry, but there was nothing else he had to offer me. He said it will just take time, or if it gets really bad I should go to my local ER or see a chronic pain specialist.

As i am getting desperate, and I don't feel my ER will be of any help, I am going to see a chiropractor who specializes in neurological and muscular pain issues. As far as seeing another surgeon, I don't even know where to begin, I had researched my entire state and this guy was supposed to be the "best".

I will keep updatiing my blog and hope for God's grace and try to have faith that He has a plan for me.

Thank you to all for the prayers!

Oh, and I did have elevated liver enzymes and amylase level-but he said it was due to the surgery and not at a level that should be treated or worried about.

It would be highly advantageous to have an endoscopy to see whats going on in your stomach as well. I have pain on my left and recently went to a surgeon because it was suppose to be gallstones. Since my pain is on the left side, he ordered a CT on my abdominal area and if that's not it, he wants to do an endoscopy on it. Won't know until next week. I believe that I have an adhesion there or a hernia. Not quite sure and will find out. Insist that they do an endoscophy. Sometimes leaks are not always deteched by CT's or X-rays.

I agree with the Others. If there's pain, there is SOMETHING WRONG! Time for a new Doctor.

I pray God's healing for you. Job 22;27 " You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you."

Psalms 91;10 "No evil shall befall you, nor plague come near your dwelling; For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.''

Can you describe the pain your having; location, duration, type

How do you feel during Fluid intake...

we know our bodies more than we think, what do you feel is going on?

With all this being said; don't despair...4 weeks is still early in the game.

I still hurt at 4 weeks, off and on, some days better some days worse.

I'm praying for you!

I can't believe your surgeon gave you Celebrex after VSG surgery!! It's an NSAID, and brings a very high risk for marginal (bleeding) ulcers...particularly in gastric patients! My surgeon would have a stroke, and then beat me, if I told him I'd taken Celebrex after surgery! Please....be very careful of that drug, or any other NSAIDs (like Advil or Ibuprofen)....marginal ulcers are nasty, often require surgery to repair, and can be life-threatening.

You definitely need a second opinion.....IMHO.

Just a note, from someone in imaging. Just because we can't see a reason for pain, it doesn't mean there is not pain. Your doc may not know what to do to make you feel better if all the tools he has to check say everything is normal.

If he checked for a leak, hernia and abscess, I don't know what other things happen after surgery.

You said your amylase was elevated. Is your lipase elevated too? Pancreatitis hurts like crazy. And also can be cause by GB stones sometimes.

I really hope things get figured out for you soon. It really couldn't hurt to see a different doctor. Maybe they will have a different approach.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
