smellbug got a reaction from Ramona1019 in Feeling Ashamed....I have had feelings of being a failure. I have spoke to my husband about it and he knows how hard I have tried to get this weight off on my own. He told me I am not a failure and that just because I have the surgery things will not be easy. I still need to do the work. The sleeve will not let me fall off the wagon and over eat.I will choose what I eat and if I work out. Once I thought of things that way I felt better. I also thought of why I was doing this. To be healthier, live a long life, enjoy my children and one day grandchildren. I stopped letting what other people think bother me. Good luck in your journey.

smellbug reacted to sandipq in Feeling Ashamed....The shame should be to those who don't take advantage of opportunities like wls surgery. I am thankful that this tool is available. My mother passed away last Oct and she had struggled with obesity her entire life. I know if she had been able to take advantage of a tool like wls surgery years ago she would have been healthier and still be here today to enjoy her grand children. I have realized that it takes a lot of courage to take this giant step toward healthier living and it causes some amount of doubt, fear and shame in all of us.... But would you be ashamed to get chemo for cancer.... Probably not... But it is what is recommended to cure the cancer and wls is what is recommended to cure your food addiction.

smellbug reacted to shrinkydinkme in So If You Know, Why Don't You....Thought about your question all night.... I have said it myself it for years.... tried crazy and healthy diets only to gain all the weight lost back and more. So at this point about a month from my surgery, I honestly have said... ""If I could do that, don't you think I would?" Add to that if there was a surgical procedure that could help an alcoholic or drug addict would I tell them to keep trying to resist without it? That is what people are doing to tell me to try to do this diet/weight loss with out the help/tool the sleeve offers.
Another thing I have done is, as I told the few I have told about my decision to get the sleeve, I have stated first, "I am not asking for your opinion or approval, I have made a decision and you are one of the few people I trust enough to tell about it....."

smellbug got a reaction from MinaT in 6 Month DietI am a military wife having the sleeve done at a MTF. The program takes about 5 months from start until surgery date. They would like to see people lose 20% of their body weight. Their reasoning was they like to see that people are making the changes in their diet and how they eat and getting in exercise. I was also told it is ok if you don't lose the whole 20% as long as you do not gain weight durring the 5 months. So far I am 4 months in and I have lost 14 pounds my 20% would be 20 pounds. To lose the weight I have been using myfitnesspal to track my calories and I walk 3 miles at night about 5 times a week. Good luck to everyone. I should be getting my surgery date my next appointment on July 13th.
