I've been STARVING all day long and I have one incision that is quite painful. I managed to get all of my fluids & most of my protein' date=' but it's been a challenge mentally.

And never mind that 99% of the damn TV commercials are for FOOD!! >:([/quote']

I know how you feel. When I had my surgery I wasn't really hungry but the food commercials made me depressed since I couldn't eat any if that. My husband and my kids and I went to a pumpkin farm and I was a week out and when we sat down so hubby and girls could eat I cried.. my main incision hurt and I was miserable but it teLltale does get better. Im a month out.. 35 lbs down and so much happier!!! It's really worth it .

I've managed pretty well today' date=' but right now I'M SO FREAKING HUNGRY.

I know it's not "real", but that makes it no less miserable. I'd kill or die for just some chicken salad. I need to chew. I need meat.

This is awful. Why, why, WHY did I do this? :([/quote']

I have been hungry for certain foods, too. I'm sure it's because I'm not getting in all of my Protein. I dream of eating eggs and cottage cheese. It will come. When I need to chew, I've been sucking on sugar free mints. It helps. My friend who had this surgery said she kept asking herself why for the first four weeks. When she could finally eat real food, she was glad she had done it, and she still is almost two years out. She's a runner now, and never thought she'd do that.

Thanks for the encouragement y'all! Had a little meltdown last night. I'm exceptionally lucky to have such an amazing husband. Love that man!

Right now I'm feeling badass and in control. If course that can change in 5 minutes somehow knows. I'm thinking it'll be somewhat easier once I'm back at work since I'll be distracted.

Also, my large incision is stinging quite a bit today. Not excruciating pain, but burning and uncomfortable. Anyone else?!

I'm so glad you're doing better today. My incisions were burning, too, and I was worried, but I had my follow up yesterday & the doc said they look good. I think it's just part of the healing process. When is your follow up appointment?

6 days after surgery and couldn't wait any longer I am down 10 lbs :*) YAY I haven't been 232 lbs since before my 4 year old was born. Super happy. My incision also stings a bit, but I think it's just the healing. Glad to hear everyone is doing well :*)

Yeah...I had a mixed day today so I've been quiet plus I was busy. I can finally drive!! So, I went to Walmart & used one of their driving carts and examined Protein powders & stuff. I bought some muscle milk, which is rather disgusting, but better when mixed with milk (I've been using lactaid). Then I bought some things I need like Shampoo, toothpaste, etc. I was exhausted when I was done, but I was still pretty happy to finally have some freedom (in case I didn't mention it, I also have a crushed big toe & have to wear this boot, which makes it hard to drive a clutch & now that I'm off the pain pills, my husband let me use his truck, which is manual).

Anyway, I did some work, made some Soup, and then felt like crap. My husband came home & cooked up eggs & hashbrowns with toast. It smelled so good. My Soup paled in comparison. Then he ate some popcorn. While he ate, I ate my soup.

I totally overate. I was miserable & then ended up getting sick. I kept thinking what have I done? How can I do this? How can I control myself for the rest of my life? I just want to eat & guzzle Water when I'm thirsty, not take these little sips that hardly quench my thirst. I feel totally screwed. I know this will pass, but I kind of feel stuck.

These Protein shakes are just disgusting to me. I want to make my own Protein Shakes, but I can't because I can't have any fruit yet. I'm not getting my Protein in, I'm full all the time, so it just seems impossible to drink everything I'm supposed to: 3 protein shakes a day + 64 ounces of Water? ! How???

Today is starting out great my 4 year old started Pre K and I walked my 8 year old to the bus stop so I got in a little more than a half hour of exercise. I am doing well with my Protein and Water intake.

Good for you! How are you getting your Protein in? I'm really struggling with that.

I'm not too fond of muscle milk either.. I ordered some Protein powder online called Isopure and its a lot better. Once u get to pureed bananas are good in them too. I use soy vanilla lite of course and its not too bad. I've even used frozen bananas and strawberries. It's like a smoothie.

Yesterday was pretty good for me, but I, too, felt full all day and didn't get my Water and Protein in. I'm feeling crappy today. My large incision is bothering me, burning and sore. I'm feeling just blah and tired.

I guess I won't get my energy back until next week when I'm on real food...puréed but real food! This is hard. And no one in my "real life" truly understands what I'm going through. Thank goodness I have this forum!

I ordered some stuff online & it arrives tomorrow. I hope it tastes ok. I was told no fruit until week 8. It's interesting how different the programs can be. Today I'm going to try mixing my powder with greek yogurt, milk, & some instant pudding mix. We'll see how that goes. I might just eat the yogurt, though.

It is hard. It's funny to think of how many people think it's the easy way out.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
