Same with me I was up 7 pounds after surgery.. needless to say I was NOT a happy camper. I am down 12 pounds now. Fell like I am at a stand still right now. I really have to work on my fluids. I feel puffy like I am retaining fluids. Its a whole new way of life. I has surgery on the 13th and I go back to work on Monday. I am ready. I feel like all I do all days is think about the surgery and food and worrying that I am not doing all the right things.

I developed extensive blood clots from my hips to my calves 10 days after surgery and spent 1 week in the hospital. I gained 20# in Water from the swelling. I weighed more than I weighed before the pre-op diet!! All I could do is wait for the IV diuretics to bring down the swelling, then I went into dehydration..it was not a good experience. I was off work 2 months and could barely walk until 1 week before I went back to work. The hospital where I work had to give me handicapped parking and rest periods every hour so I could elevate my legs!!!

Now, 3 months later, I've lost 72#, I'm walking to employee lot again , I'm biking, taking yoga, swimming laps, and so much more!!

If you would have asked me how I felt about WLS 3 months ago, I would have poo-poo'ed it!! Today I am happy I did it. My left leg still swells by the end of the day and I am taking Coumadin for the rest of my life, they found out I have a clotting disorder...But like I said, life is grand!!

I have the disorder ..its called factor 5 Leiden. I told my surgeon and they are giving me 2 weeks of blood thinners to take home..and a shot in the hospital. I am so nervous about this. I have never had a clot but my dad died from a clot and my sister got one almost killed her too. I was wondering...did you doctor give you a blood thinner at the hospital before you left and you still got clots? Did you do a lot of walking right away or was it from mobility?.any info you have will be helpful because this is my biggest fear.. I wish you knew about your disorder ahead of time..it should be one of the tests before surgery in my opinion because most people don't know they have it until after a clot.

I too have factor V. That is one reason my dr suggested I have the sleeve. My sister had a stroke at age 53. I am 48. Both my parents had blood clots. I was terrified of dying from a blood clot. My dr also sent me home with the shots for two weeks. It's been 3 weeks and everything is fine. In the hospital they got me up and walking ASAP. My only fear now is that a clot can happen up to 6 weeks after surgery and I will be going on an airplane for 4 hours.

I was diagnosed with Lupus Anticoagulant Antibody Autoimmune Disorder, not Factor Leiden. It is a clotting disorder. An autoimmune disorder, not hereditary. I have an IVC filter placed in my Inferior Vena Cava (main vein in the lower part of the body) that keeps blood clots from lower part of the body from traveling to the lungs and heart. My filter will stay in for life and I take Coumadin to prevent further clots in the legs. My surgeon saved my life by having this filter placed before surgery!! It was the Hematologist who made the mistake of not giving me blood thinners after surgery.

I only share my story to bring awareness to those who have had previous blood lots so they will make sure their doctors know they require blood thinners after surgery and maybe like me, an IVC filter placement. I don't mean to scare anybody about the surgery. Just be an informed patient and try to prevent complications. The bad thing that happened to me was caused by the Hematologist, not my Surgeon!! My Surgeon saved my life in more than one way!! I'm down 80# and life is good.

Either is scary when it comes to clots - the Factor V, there's nothing to do except to not be over weight and eat healthy - my DOCs even said that an aspirin a day or coumidin wouldn't help..... you are lucky!!!

I was up 5 pounds immediately post op from all the IV Fluid, went on to lose that and an additional 15 over the next 4 weeks. Hang in there!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
