What Food Do You Miss?

Recommended Posts

It honestly isn't many....but I sure would love a taste of Chilaquiles Mexicanos. But my sleeve wouldn't go for that at all! What do you miss?

Four and a half months out and I have to say I don't miss anything yet. Sometimes I wish I could have more of what I'm eating, but remind myself of the goals and that it's not possible to go back anyway! I'm sure I will miss some things at some point, but so far so good.

Don't miss anything-

Especially the carb comas, sugar crashes and insulin spikes or the "god I ate so much I REALLY have to puke" feeling. Not even a tiny bit!

I eat whatever the hell I want- just mini portions.

Yesterday I had a fun size kitkat and today it's been all Protein and shakes.

You probably won't miss it in the short term and probably (after a few months) will have it in the long term!

I haven't really missed anything in particular. I have thought about a few favorites, but the thought passes quickly, and I'm good. I used to LOVE Lays chips (original in yellow bag, thank you) and I suppose I could have a few chips, but it's not worth it to me. I mentioned on another thread that I don't really enjoy food, not even old favorites. I eat because I have to, not because I enjoy it.

You know..I feel the same way. I now eat to survive. I used to enjoy eating and how it made me feel. Now..I like how yoga makes me feel! Going to start the Ease into 5 k app soon..hope I like the way I feel after that too!

food has become nothing but fuel to me. I enjoy what I eat, but I don't eat for enjoyment anymore. But it's weird, when I walk through a store and go by the Snacks and candy, I can feel my arm trying to reach out and grab what I want....not because I'm hungry, but just out of habit.

The food I probably miss the most is Subway. I love, love, love Subway, and there is just no way to even think about eating all that bread. Not only can't but don't want too. Also cannot tolerate chinese at all except for shrimp eggs foo yung. Oh, well...it's only food. Kathe :)

I used to eat Chinese food like it was my job! Since I was sleeved (7/3) I had a bit of broccoli with steamed chicken. It tasted good, but very filling. I haven't had any since.

I don't really miss anything, but I remember what I used to like eating: orange chicken, popcorn ( especially caramel and white chocolate), apples, bananas, costco cake, apple fritters, Mexican a la crema and more. I guess the reason I don't miss them is because of one of the major reasons why I had this surgery. For the past 10 years or so I have constantly had a love hate relationship with food. While I enjoyed the initial experience of eating, I almost always hated my behavior that leads to over eating too much of the wrong types of food. My will power would be like steel sometimes, but then it would be razor thin other times. I got so fed up with the love hate relationship and what is was doing to my health, mental state and general well- being, I had to do something to stop the vicious cycle. That is where the surgery came in. All in all, I say good riddance to all these foods. For that reason, I don't desire them any longer and feel I am free from the power they held over me. The door has closed on that part of my life. A different door has opened where I have a healthy relationship with food as fuel. While many can probably relate to this power struggle i described , everyone is different. Good luck.

I can't really say I miss any food. But I do miss the convenience of being able to grab something anytime anywhere. Now I have to plan where I'm gonna be or carry food with me. I'm pretty strict on my diet right now and most places you can get a truck don't offer healthy options of the grab & go variety.

I stopped at a truck stop today and saw Muscle Milk. I thought of you, although we've never met.

You know..I was with a friend and our children and they stopped for Subway and I found Light Muscle Milk at the truck stop. I was very excited over this...who would have thought me of all people would be excited over muscle milk!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
