Ok, I was a good boy and did a search before posting, and I didn't see this topic addressed yet. Besides the fact that I have sleep apnea and I was pre-diabetic, a good portion of why I'm doing this is for vanity. Yes, I'm vain. I'll admit it. Healthy is, in fact, just swell. But I'm too sexy to be fat. Go ahead and slap me if you wish. :D

So my question is: has anyone had muscle implants after they reached their goal weight?

Please don't misunderstand: I fully intend to go back to weightlifting after I've been cleared to do so, but I really don't want to go over 165 pounds; muscle weighs more than fat. And my sleep apnea doctor told me that if I reduced my weight to that amount or less my sleep apnea would go away.

But I really liked being muscular. I can't imagine muscle implants would weigh that much, and it might help solve the problem of loose skin in certain areas. They're doing wonders with implants these days and the science of it has come light years from even just 10 years ago.

I've attached a pic of myself at my most muscular (circa 2002-2003).

Any thoughts, experiences, negative comments about my shallowness?

First off, if you weighed 200lbs but were 10% body fat, your sleep apnea would still be gone. The sleep apnea is caused bu the fat around your neck putting pressure on you're soft pallet thus closing off your airway.

I can't really contribute much on the implant topic, because I have a really hard time with foreign materials in the human body for cosmetic purposes. I've seen too many implants that have shifted and have ended up leaving a lop sided butt cheek, or pec.

The good news is your body has a memory, and once you've been there before, it will be easier to regain your athletic body than it was to build it the first time.

I'm VERY vain as well, so I get where you are coming from. I was never muscular before so I'm not sure about muscle implants. I was busty, however, and have thought very seriously about breast implants. I still have very mixed feelings on them so I will be anxious to see others thoughts on this topic. I wish you the best with whatever decision you make!

Thank you for your response. But, actually, I asked my sleep apnea doctor about muscle weight vs. fat weight. He said it didn't make that much of a difference. And I've known plenty of bodybuilders with even 5% body fat who still have severe sleep apnea. The weight on your upper torso can still create a problem, especially if you have weak neck muscles like I do.

In the attached pic, I was at about 12% body fat and I was 215 pounds. This is obviously way above my goal weight.

It was just a thought. Besides, you have to consume tons of Protein and calories to get back up to the size I was and I doubt that's going to be possible now that I've been sleeved.

I know nothing about muscle implants. I just want to compliment you on your picture. Muscular fits you well, I think with some hard work you will prob be able to accomplish your goals.

I agree. My husband is not overweight however he has sleep apnea, therefore, although excess fat is most likely the # 1 reason for apnea, it is definitely not mutually exclusive. BTW Gustavo.. Love the pic. I have confidence you'll get there again, even if you need a little help from implants. I mean the sleeve is a tool that we are using to better our physiques why not implants right? Oh and I don't think you are being vein, as there is nothing wrong with being confident with your outward apparence. Good luck to you.

Aww, thank you! I completely agree. One of the reasons I'm not still muscular is because I had had several injuries that made it impossible to work out as heavily as I was. And by the time I was all healed I found myself looking like I do in my profile pic (seriously overweight).

You look very bulked up in that picture. You also have your best "don't mess with me" face going on. We need a picture of that you with that look posing next to the Morgan Freeman statue. That would be priceless.

Thanks man! Yeah, that would have been a cool picture. There's another picture of me kissing his cheek, which turned out hilarious, but I thought that would be too much in a mixed forum like this.

Unfortunately, I haven't been much in a "don't mess with me" mood lately. I guess that when you're so easily discriminated and criticized for being overweight, you get to a point where you try not to give people a reason to pick on you. Remember, when you're fat you're supposed to be jolly or something.

Muscle implants really exist? I've never heard of them. I'd like to have some for my calves.

Fortunately, I've never had sleep apnea, so I have no insight there.

Yes, they exist and are more common than you think. A lot of my friends have had them done, including one who had calf implants. He had really slack calves and no matter how hard he worked out, he couldn't build his legs. He was one of those bodybuilders with a huge torso and chicken legs.

Another friend of mine goes to Mexico or Europe every winter to have something done. He says its his Christmas present to himself. He gets a kind of implant in which the surgeon injects these "micro-beads" into his muscles that evenly distribute themselves throughout that particular muscle group. It makes the muscles huge without having that "implant look". Over the last few years he's done it to every major muscle group and he is monstrous.

I think he's a plastic surgery addict though because he's literally had everything done: face lift, nose job, jaw lowered, ears pinned (his ears stuck out a little), etc. He now wants his voice loosened to give him that deep, rich, manly voice.

Don't get me wrong--he looks good and not particularly fake. But he has the money to get the best surgeons in the world.

My husband is a total gym rat and at 54yo he still has a 32" waist and his biceps are as large as my waist was when we met. lol. :) All I can say is cardio cardio cardio and lots of protien. He loads Protein before during and after each work out. I recently turned him onto Isopure Zero ready to drink. They're kind of like koolaid and have 40grams protien with zero carbs or sugar. Good luck! If you put your mind to it you'll be fine. :D

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
