I had my surgery Feb 27 by Dr Pirrello at Presby Matthews. I have to say, as an RN, I am completely impressed by his whole practice. They have called me several times to check on me. Helped me through my FMLA paperwork. Dr Pirrello and his PA saw me 4 times each day I was in the hospital. Highly recommended!

So i am one week post opand started pureed foods today....???? I had a scrambled egg with a tsp of melted cheese and 1/4 of a banana that i blended with 2tsp of soy milk and 1 tsp of natural peanut butter.........not too bad; i do think i needed to blend the eggs with a tad bit of broth or soomething cause they were kinda dry and felt a bit "strange" going down, but i ate about half the egg and half the banana and i was full.......i can also start taking my supplements today which is good because this feeling of weakness has got to go.......but doing well, i have lost 30 lbs from my high weight and 16 since day of surgery, unbelievable.........????????????????

Ok, so at 1 week post op, I am feeling great, I am still struggling to get my fluids in like i should but i pee twice a day and and i haven't had a fever or low blood pressure so i think im ok for now, but i am trying really hard. So today was the first day since surgery that I actually FELT up to doing something...so we took the kids to Carowinds, which gave me the opportunity to walk as much as possible, but i did get a wheel chair just in case, which i am glad i did because my abdomen did start to hurt after a while and i was exhausted. When we got back home, i did some pureed food for my diet next week; so here's what I did:

post-45267-13813664348561_thumb.jpg

So from top to bottom: beef from the Atkins Beef Merlot meal, its not quite "pureed" but its already pretty soft and any strands left i will remove before eating

Broccoli from the same meal, i did add alittle bit of seasoned Water that i used to boil potatoes in to getit the right texture

Canned potatoes, i boiled them in their own water and just added an extra can of water and seasoned it with salt and tiny bit of pepper then i pureed them with lowfat plain greek yogurt, and seasoned it with just a bit of salt and a tiny bit of garlic

Then here are some frozen carrots that i nuked in the microwave and seasoned with salt and pepper and added a little bit of water to smooth em out

I will freeze these and put them in freezer bags and thaw over night in the fridge. Sent from my iPad using VST

Well, I took my first trip to Whole Foods today.....I bought a few things for when i go on regular foods in a couple of weeks. So while I was there, my kids were going around getting samples from all of the little sample people, and we come to one table where they had different chesses and preserves to taste together, an before i knew it i had tried the goat cheese and strawberry-basil preserve......OMG, it was DELICIOUS, then i realized what i had donedde30. So the good thing is that i am on day five of pureed foods and smooth cheese is included in that, but i really thought it would have that "slider" effect but nope new tummy was fine even with the preserves.....I will definately be more careful for the next few weeks though, until i'm cleared for regular diet. But I LOVE Whole Foods...these are some things i bought to try when I can.......

Slider just means that it is a food that you can eat alot of without the full feeling...usually those are foods that you should not eat often or at all. I think you are thinking of what is called "dumping" effect, which happens more often to gastric bypass patients. Us sleevers fortunately do not often have this problem, though sometimes too much food or the wrong foods can make you vomit ;) Glad you are doing so well! Keep it up :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
