Scar Tissue With The Band?! :(

Recommended Posts

well I'm not sure what the tool does either but when i questioned this drs method to the others doctors they didn't say he did anything wrong. when and if i see a dr again ill question it more. maybe you can even tell my story to a dr that you might see and see if he might have an idea why a surgeon would do something like that to me to remove my 2nd band? hmm???

My band was remOved 6-27-11 and I had my VSG on 6-27-12. It was a tough year but revisions are tricky and if done too soon you are sleevin over a scarred and inflamed area. Try and watch your portions so you don't gain too much. I had my sleeve from 05 until 2011. It is worth the wait and they are nothing alike!

I just had my band removed yesterday, and the surgeon had to remove a fair amount of scar tissue (his words). The band had also pulled my fundus up through my diaphragm. I'm waiting about 4 months for my sleeve, which doesn't thrill me, but I know it is safer.

It is disappointing to hear how many people are having trouble with their bands after 2 or so years. I'm honestly glad I didn't have more damage than I did.

Four months is not too bad, my doctor told me to wait one year. I'm having the band removed in Tuesday. I'll keep u posted if he was able to do the sleeve.. Keeping my fingers crossed. If not I have some serious dieting, non of my clothes fit me right now.. From 138 to 180 now :( I can't stop eating...

I work at the hospital where I had my surgery and all of the surgeons here do the revision in 1 surgery. I had it done last month. No complication and no scar tissue issues.

Each surgeon assesses the viability of doing the revision in one step or 2.

Often they are unable to make the determination until they are removing the lap band and can view the scar tissue, possible damage from the band, etc.

I feel your pain. I had my band removed in an emergency surgery, May 15, 2012. I had my band since 10/8/10 and it was nothing but trouble. I lost 50lbs but for the majority of the time I was banded I was eating and throwing up. I had a slips and then finally a blockage (when I was completely empty). So the removal and surgery was going to be in one shot but when the dr went in I was completely swollen - it took forever to get the band out and he said some of the mesh(if i rmember correctly) is still in me bc he couldn't see where it started and ended so he didn't want to cut "blindly". He didn't do the revision bc of the swelling. So I am having it 9/17/12. Like you i'm gaining weight. I just want to cry. I thought having the band was the easier option and it's not. Now in this "down" time I'm hearing everyone tell me how I can do weight watchers -- that I don't need the surgery.. They are trying scare tactics also - we don't want to lose you in the surgery etc etc. While I know they watched me live in hell for 2 years I'm know that this surgery is diff and one I need. If I didn't I wouldn't have gained all this weight in such a short time after having the band removed.

I'd listen to the dr and wait. time flies and I cant' believe my surgery is in a month.

Keep me posted on how you are doing.

I am so nervous and worried that I will have to undergo two surgeries. I had lap band surgery in Dec 2007 and scheduled to have sleeve surgery on October 11, 2012. I really want it all in one surgery but I do not want to take the risk of leakage or complications. My surgeon is NOT going to do both procedures in the same day if he feels that I have to much scar tissue, but he will not know until he is already in there if he can proceed with the sleeve. He is definitely a master at revisions and I trust his professionalism and expertise. My parents live in California and was planning to come to Texas to assist with my recovery. I am not sure if they should because there is no guarantee that I will be sleeved at that time. What do I do?

Lets be clear here - the scar tissue everybody refers to is actually on the stomach organ. The skin scars with lap surgery is minimal. From other surgeries, you can also have adhesions that cause problems. Specifically though the lapband leaves big thick scarring ON your stomach tissue.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
