Crab Cakes With Creamy Avacado Sour Cream Sauce

Recommended Posts

Hello -

I was sleeved July 2nd and have been SOOO looking forward to some soft foods. I made this and ate one for Breakfast today!! Who says you can't have crab for breakfast?! :) My goal is 60-70g of Protein a day, and if I can do that without drinking a shake - I am all for it!

1 can/jar fresh picked crab (mine was 12 oz) HEB Plus carries some good stuff!

1 egg

2 TBLSP Cream cheese

1/4 C. fresh SHREDDED parmesan

4 Ritz crackers

1 tsp. Old Bay spice

1/2 tsp onion powder

1 tsp Cayenne Pepper (I like spicy - leave out if you don't!!)

Mix together - weigh out 3 oz portions

heat a TINY bit of olive oil i a pan, put crab into pan, flatten out and let sizzle - about 3-4 minutes on medium, then flip for another 3-4 minutes.

Sauce:

I cup sour cream

i small/medium avacado - add into sour cream

1/4 cup diced cilantro (leave out if you are one of those unfortunate souls that doesn't like it!)

juice of one lime

(can even add some capers if you like)

Serve on side of your crabby Pattie - I can eat about 3/4 of one patty - and I am hitting about 22g of protein -

YUM!!!!

Y'all - I survived my 2 weeks post op with the food network channel!! I know it sounds weird, but it really seemed to help. Now I have all these ideas for making savory, high Protein meals...

I know the crackers aren't low carb - but the 4 aren't terrible when divided into about 5 patties......but you need a binder with the egg.....

Let me know how you like it...

I am looking forward to some of the ricotta cups, but I am sad that eggs are so low protein.....with a small tummy, I really want to hit my 60-70g of protein a day...and eggs won't cut it because I can't eat 3 of them!!!!

I am thinking a tuna salad is in my future!! But the crab cakes are great for a hot meal!! :)

How many patties does this make?

how much sauce do you put for one pattie? I need to find out the carbs and stuff so I need these quantities please.

I plugged in the recipe to MFP and made it to serve 4 people based on the 3oz patty that she said she made and given that it has 12oz of crab meat. It shows to be 272 calories, 22 grams of Protein, 5 grams of sugar and 11 carbs. That also takes into consideration the sauce and dividing it evenly as well. Hope that helps!

I am thinking of making this using shrimp..if it will work...

I will not be using the sauce, so I will plug it in without that. I guess it makes about four three ounce patties.

130 calories, 17.5 grams of Protein, 13 carbs, 3 grams of sugar...without the sauce.

I got different numbers alltogether....lol. I got 170 cal, 24 Protein and 3 carbs with no sauce. What is giving you the high carbs? I put in whipped cream cheese.. maybe thats the difference.

It ended up making 5 patties (because of the added ingredients to the mixture)......I am surprised the carbs were that high - with 5 crackers, I figured about 1 cracker per pattie.......no carbs anywhere else.....

Anyway......very good, glad you liked it - and I am sure shrimp or a white fish would be great as well!

I got 9 grams of carbs for all of them and it divided it between the whole recipe. It said 4 total crackers right? they only have about 2 carbs per cracker so it cant be more than 9 for the whole recipe then divided by four crab cakes.... also it gave me 1 g of carbs for the egg.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
