Anyone Else Have A Surgery Date In July? Excited And Terrified!

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to you let's do this. Thank you for the update' date=' makes me a littles nervous for Monday July 9 ( same as u nustyle). Have had such a struggle with liquid diet. How are you able to swallow pills? They keep adding pills to my plan and I already take a few normally. Now adding the pain meds, anti stone, prilosec and anti nausea I'm looking at close 10 pills.... That's kinda freaking me out. Anyone else worried about swallowing pills after???[/quote']

Ask for liquid meds... my doc gave me liquid codeine for the pain and (gulp) suppositories for nausea and chewable vitamins. No pills whatsoever.

Let's see...I don't really need help with too much, sometimes I need help getting up if I am laying all the way down. I found that I have to sleep on a air mattress, it seems to contour my body n I can sleep on my side. sleeping in my bed was painful for some reason n its a comfy bed. As far as pills go I'm taking percocet phenegren n pepcud all in pill form n its no problem whatsoever- I just snap them in half n thy r already really small.

Well I made it through! My doc said my liver looked great...I was a good patient and I was doing well! Only had an odd feeling once and that is when the nurse took out the jp drain...it felt like a worm crawling across my belly! Once it was out I could get a good breath. Have been trying to sip every 15 minutes and boy; is that hard! They are not pushing me too much on the Protein just yet...have to stay on a full liquid diet for 4 weeks. My medic alert Bracelet was waiting for me when I got home and it's on.

Good luck to those going next; you will do great!!!

This is a prayer that my friend sent to me the night before I had my surgery. She made me promise her that I would say it the day of surgery. I actually was so caught up in everything that I didn't but I did say it the night before and my own personal one right before the surgery. I just wanted to share it in case there's anyone who needs some comfort. Have a nice day. And good luck to everyone who has their surgery today. ????

Dear God:

Let your hand of loving calm be upon me, bringing rest and peace into my mind and body. Bring to my remembrance the skills of my physcian and his attendants, who have been prepared through the years by the gift of your Spirit.

Help me to recall the history of your grace in my life -- all the trials and dangers, both seen and unseen, from which you have been my Rescuer through the years.

Enable me to know you now. for you have been trustworthy in all your doings. Take away all anxiety from me and those who love me, and let us enter this experience with a sense of adventure, to learn from it how to be more obedient servants.

Through Him who trusted You in everything, even Jesus Christ my Lord.

Amen

I hope everyone's doing well, walking and sipping and getting their Protein in as much as possible!

I can't believe I'm only four days away. It dawned on me today and I felt a little jump in my belly. I am so excited!

I've been watching a lot of videos on you tube today. There's one series I really like: a girl named kellawanda has her journey chronicled for about three years. There's also skinnycupcake vanee (who's from this board as well). My page is jennijune21 also, I've been doing a vlog as well :-) It's been comforting seeing all of these people that have been so successful with it, for me.

I can't wait until Wednesday - I am so ready!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
