Angie,

I'm almost in the same boat! I started my pre-op diet Tuesday and I can have two shakes, three Protein bars, and one meal with 5 ounces of lean meat and two cups of veggies (no starches!). This is a 1200 calorie diet.

What I do is drink LOTS of Water. Add Mio (non caffeinated) flavoring to it. Also I will drink Vitamin Zero Water, water flavored with Crystal Light flavoring, and even Decaf tea and coffee with splenda. Also, check to see how much Protein you're consuming. I am averaging about 120 grams of protein a day. Protein, especially the really thick bars work wonders for me.

As for the hunger part, I treat it as a mind game. My mind is stronger than the urge to eat, even if my stomach is growling, like it did today!

If you'd like to see what I'm eating then feel free to friend me on MyFitnessPal (click on the link in my signature below). It will give you an idea of what I am taking in, if that would help.

I started mine on Sunday, which is the Protein Shakes and a sensible dinner w no carbs such as rice, Pasta, potatoes or bread. I'm a diabetic and two days out of the 5 so far ive switched it up and had my meal at lunch time instead of dinner time and had my Protein Drink at dinner time due to getting sick hungry. Most of the time I have been able to distract myself enough to make it thru the growling stomach and I know with me if I can distract myself with something for about 20 minutes I'm good to go unless I start getting sick. I figured in the evening when I am more likely to be idle and thinking about food I can just go to bed and sleep it off, lol

I'll be honest, that bites! (no pun intended)

I'm not sure how I'd survive with that one. Kiloalphatango, just out of curiosity, how many calories per day are you being allowed, and how much weight are they wanting you to lose before surgery?

Get the small pkgs of the Walmart brand of sugar free Jello. Its 20 cals and 4gr protein! Mix it IP according to the directions AND DRINK IT! warm liquids are more satiating than cold drinks or food. It has saved me from cheating many times! Get the wm brand because it has half of the calories as the brand name! Save cals and change, win/win lol

I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet. So far, not to bad. Although I took my Son to taco bell and had to smell that all the way home. UUGGHH! I can have warm chicken or beef broth, and sugar free Jello in addition to my Protein Shakes. Good luck!

I am about to eat my computer! I can have 6 "supplements" a day (protein bars, Protein chips, soup) and nothing else....but I'm so hungry! Somebody talk to me so I won't eat everything in sight! I'm disappointed in myself; it's only the first day and I have to do this for 2 weeks!

Don't be so hard on yourself! From everything I've read here, the pre-op diet is the roughest part. But it's also supposed to get much better after day four. Hang in there, you will make it! And you'll have a beautiful, petite liver that your surgeon will love.

Wow, you all are LUCKY! I am on week one of two weeks of a clear liquid pre-op diet. I have three to four Protein Shakes a day, sugar-free Jell-O, broth, sugar free liquids, and sugar free popscicles. I has been difficult, but down ten pounds in one week and feeling so much better.

Good luck with your journey.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
