Oh Patrickcurl, kids' comments can be the worst. I work with four and five year olds (I'm a teacher) and where the parents leave off, I try to make up for. (Mrs. lLambert, you need a Wii fit for Christmas! ....thanks.....LOL!) We talk a lot about differences and kindness to others in my class. My 9-year-old adopted brother is completely blind. He was shot in the face when he was two (He is from Baghdad, Iraq). He only has one eye, and it's fake. His face is disfigured, but he is the most handsome, smart, hilarious, adorable boy I know. He has the most amazing personality! You would not believe the stares, the comments, the vulgarity of what children and ADULTS say to him. It is our job to help teach these kids and adults become compassionate towards others. I have my brother come in regularly to help kids get accustomed to being around someone "different." People just aren't intentional about teaching their kids etiquette around others with "differences". My mom always taught us never to stare or say rude things. When I hear a rude comment, I make a point of trying to educate that child or adult of how my brother ended up the way he is--and I do the same with my students if they say something about my weight, or anyone else's!

Don't let it get you down, I've had kids ask the skinny girls at my work if they're pregnant, and tell them their bottoms are too big! Remember, everything is bigger to them. I've somehow learned to let fat comments from kids roll off my shoulders. Hopefully if you have kids, you can teach them to treat others with love and kindness no matter how they look, sound, smell, etc! We have the gift of empathy. :)

Best of luck to you in your journey!!

Erika

Thanks -I kinda just try to ignore their comments and move on. I blame the parents more then them though for not teaching good manners lol. I also think hey.. I'm getting surgery soon, I'm already losing weight on my liquid diet, and before long I wont' be the fattest person these kids have ever seen.. Just gotta be a little bit patient I guess.

These are all so great and so true! Has anyone said this yet? * I want to be able to wrap a towel (regular bath size) around my body' date=' instead of using the gigantic costco ones or beach towels! Who would've ever guessedmthat towel size is a problem for obese people...

*I want to go to every party, wedding, baby shower, and function I'm invited to...not send a gift because I am afraid people I haven't seen in 125lbs will see me. (I am very social).

*I want to be able to buy a bra at a regular store! (not many places carry 42DDD!)

*I want to run around and chase my students at recess!

*I want my kids (students) to not ask me innocent questions that hurt! (Why is your tummy so big? Are you 'pregnet?' My mom's not fat, why are you? ...all real questions!)

Most of all...I want to be happy & healthy! :)[/quote']

I agree most of all I want to be happy & healthty.

Thought of another one - being able to wear the robe provided at a spa and not having to bring my own so it would cover me.

And the smock at the salon too!

I want to face my arch nemesis head on...the LAWN CHAIR! Weather it's a plastic one I'm afraid wont hold me or a lounger I can't get up from without embarrassing myself, I can't wait to plop my butt down without a second thought!!

My fiancée is originally from a town called Poulsbo in WA and he is familiar with these stories.

Amazing' date=' just amazing. I'm so glad I'm not around Hamoodi all the time or I'd be in jail. I'd knock someone flat out if they dared say one disrespectful word aimed at him[/quote']

You are a very sweet person, the world needs more of you!! Trust me, I feel like I have steam coming out of my ears when I hear some adult say (in front of him) "What's wrong with your kid's face??" I'm like, "well, he can hear, maybe you should ask him!?" People just assume he's stupid or something because his face is disfigured. Luckily, as we tell him, he's got more personality than all those people combined, and he has a very kind heart. He says he's forgiven the men who shot him.

And what a small world! We have relatives in Poulsbo and Bremerton! Not super far from us, about an hour or so. :) We live about 40 mins north of Seattle.

It is a small world. What is funny is when I went to visit his parents for the first time (I'm an Okie) i think they either thought I was pregnant or mentally challenged. They thought I was pregnant bc every single time I got in the car I got deathly carsick...our Okie roads are flat, theirs were up and down and curvy....ugh. and they thought I was mentally challenged bc my mouth had to have been hanging open the entire time bc of the beauty! I'd never seen mountains, etc before.lol

the day my thighs don't rub together I'm so gonna attempt a cartwheel

Right there with you! I have been overweight most of my life (from about age 9 onward). When I was a tween, I remember my mother sewing Patches on my jeans to wear to school. Walking had rubbed them open between the thighs. Rather than throwing them out, she patched them, and made me wear them to school.

I had never been so embarrassed in all my short life! The next day I refused to ever wear them again, and I got grounded for "talking back". She did however see how much it upset me and bought me new pants and never patched another pair again.

Since then, I can't tell you how many pairs of perfectly good pants I've had to throw away due to the inside thighs being worn through. I can't wait until my thighs don't rub......forever!

GREAT THREAD!!

YES to everything so far! Plus...

- to weigh less than my husband!!

- not to be embarassingly out of breath after climbing a flight of stairs

- to not sweat so much in the summer

- to see my cheek bones again...I know they're in there somewhere

- to not make jokes about being fat to make others less uncomfortable

- to be comfortable enough to do some "porn star" sex moves with my husband ;)

- to not be the fattest person in the room

- to play on the beach with my kids and not be horribly self conscious

- to renew my wedding vows on my 10th anniversary (Feb 2014) in a sexy' date=' red dress!![/quote']

Love your post....totally agree with you.... I am not married but I still agree

Love, love this thread! I agree with lots of things posted! Another biggie for me: be able to look at pictures of myself again! I hate taking pictures. I hate seeing the multiple chins... And, all of the other rolls! :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
