ItsGottaGo, hope that you find a way to stave off your hunger!

I'm having a setback -- my husband found out today that they're going to do a bunch of layoffs at his job in the next few weeks. This makes me SO uneasy because I'm selfpay -- if I cancel surgery now I'll be out $500 (by just a freaking day, if only they'd been told yesterday), but at least I'll get the rest of my payment back. At the same time, I've so been looking forward to this, and I hate to lose that $500!

i did that but when i previewed it, it just showed up as the url and no pic. i tried the code for "your code" at top and the code in middle box. i'm not the most computer literate person.

To insert your ticker go to user cp at the top of the screen when u get there click on edit signature, that is where you paste your ticker. I got my ticker at www.TickerFactory.com

I hope this helps.:)

Hey to everyone! Hope everyone is doing well. All is ok in Lama World. Finally got my treadmill out of the basement!:clap2:

Hey All,

Just got back from Nashville for my first post-op appointment. He did go ahead and give me the fill. He asked me if I was able to chug Water, I said I was able to drink as much and as fast as I wanted, and so he said it was time to do a fill.

It was scary. Laid down and he got the "bee sting" shot out to numb the area around my port. It hurt only for a second, actually doesn't hurt as much as the one they give you before an IV. Then he got the BIG needle out and I felt somewhat woozy. I wouldn't look, but it felt like he was jabbing around looking for the port. Luckily he found it. He injected a little, and then he had me sit up with the syringe still in the port and drink 9oz of water. It went down fine. Guess he did that so he wouldn't have to restick me if it was too tight.

All in all went really well. Have to go back in three weeks to do another adjustment. I had been really hungry up until the time I got there because they told me I could eat Breakfast but liquids after that. My tummy was growling when I was in the room, but then when he did the fill and I drank the water, I wasn't hungry anymore. Two days of liquids, then I can go on to oatmeal, mashed potatoes etc.

I am very very hungry today. I still have to be on Clear Liquids only and 3 Protein Shakes a day (4oz) for another week. I don't know how I'm going to make it. I am debating trying some cream Soup, but I don't want to disobey my dr.s orders. It's amazing that two days ago, I couldn't choke down a 1/4 cup of broth and today I am starving.

I actually can have thicker liquids, im still hungry every 3hours or so! Today I got in all my protein- I missed 20gm yesterday and I was ravenous!! No mental hunger its all tummy rumbling & growling and if I dont answer it - progression to hiccups!!

Im supposed to be on this liquid-mushie schedule for 5 weeks- Not going to make it. Im adding loose scrambled eggs by week 3-4!

sorry spike didnt see your post,

I mowed my backyard yesterday!!!! with a push mower! took my time but it felt great to do something and not be sore! My hubby got peeved at me. lol but said the yard looked great. I must have more swelling or restriction than others. I'm doing fine on the liquid stage and have one more week to go before I can go to mushies. My meal times are at 8:00 am11:30am and 6:00pm, and boy do I make then special. I eat out of fancy bowls and drink from crystal glasses, and sit down with my family at dinner, taking my time. I got to make it special right? Drinking Water and other clear liqids in between. My protien shake is like a snack to me, I mix the full 50 gm with 20oz of skim milk or water with ice in the morning, and then sip on it throughout the day. It's yummy to me believe it or not. I think alot of it is mental, I'm afraid to screw something up and waste all that money I just spent. lol I hope all of you are doing well and good luck to those getting closer to surgery date.

Thanks!

MCW: Great job of telling us about your lst fill! It takes some of the mystery out of it. Plus I think most of us who've had the band for at least a week are getting pretty hungry, so hopefully it will all be worth it for the 1st fill. Glad you're doing well!

Gonnabethin: Man! You're still battling the hiccups! That sucks. I'm still pretty hungry too, but I've been able to have eggs for several days. If I can get through the weekend, I get some addt'l Protein on Mon. I was thinking you said you get to have something more substantial soon. On the upside, you're going to be losing more good lbs! (If you can live to tell about it!)

I love fitday. It helps me keep everything in line, in particular this first post op week I was trying to keep my eye on eating enough calories. Most days I'm close to 400, but yesterday I wasn't even at 300.

Have fun with it.

BTW, any other fitday users out there? I only use the free online version, but was curious if anyone bought the downloadable version and how they are different.

Thanks!

For now I have the free version on my desktop but I think I will end up getting the downloadable version for my laptop....I think it said you don't have to be online for that one, is that right?:)

Elaine: Congratulations! You're way ahead of the game having walked off the gas and most of the shoulder pain already!!

I had read so many horror stories about the liquid pain meds, I was afraid to try them. Sounds like you're confirming how awful they are.

I had a hernia repair too - but I was well aware of it before hand - for years. You may be very pleasantly surprised at how well you're going to feel now that it's fixed!

Great to hear of your very upbeat experiences!!

The hardest part of this liquid/mushie stage is that I feel fine!! If I didnt have steri-strips on I would not know I had surgery. I dont yearn chewing type food but thicker more substantial liquid- more long lasting!! I can have oatmeal, cream of wheat- all of which just make you hungrier, yogurt, milk, Soups, apple sauce- its the hard Protein I thought I didnt like that I miss!! Im ready to add tuna- not on my list but its the same consistency as oatmeal. I may have to be creative and think how the thin it down.

I called the nutritionist today and she advised NOT to add anything other than what I am having at the moment which is clear liquids and 3 4oz Protein Drinks per day until I have healed. So I will wait until Wednesday as ordered. I am going to try adding some unflavored Unjury Protein Powder to my chicken broth and see if that will fill me up more. I think I am so hungry because TOM is coming any day now!!! Congratulations to all our newly banded and newly filled Sept. bandsters! Hope everyone is feeling well today!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
