OK....so I hit a bump in the road...I'm still in the hospital. I had a pin hole leak...n had to go back in surgery Wednesday.... the day I should've went home. I am feeling a lot better n should be home by Sunday. At least it was found before I went home....out of the thousands of surgeries he has performed.. I am his first leak.

So glad they found it before you went home and were able to take care of it! Blessings to you!

Hi all. I was sleeved yesterday. I have had an overall great experience. Very little pain, however the gas was the worst part. I have been up walking several times and the gas is getting better and better. I would recommend Dr Kelly to anyone. He and his staff are great. The staff here at the Oasis of florence hospitals are great too. Just wanted to let you all know. Congratulations to my other August 10th sleever brothers and sisters. Ttys!

Is anyone moving to full liquids this week?!? I started yesterday and I can tell you it's a challangeI...I'm finally full, all the time. I'm sure it will get better with time, but it's so odd to take a few bites or pudding and fell stuffed. I forgot lunch today, looked at the clock at 3 and realized it was time for Protein. I guess each step is going to require diligence on my part not to forget to take care of my tummy.

Y'all let me know how it's going with intake and how you are feeling.

Big hugs to all our August sleevers!!!

I'm not 100% sure what 'full liquids' means. But I'm 9 days post op and have had Protein Drinks, Clear Liquids, the last few days I have added in sf pudding, and really really thin mashed potatoes with Protein Powder mixed in. Feels great to have a slightly larger variety to pick from. Intake is going okay, Im always short on liquids each day and need to work on this! I just feel stuffed all of the time when taking in Water, but I know I am a little dehydrated. Then I go for a walk, and sweat, and get even more dehydrated! I can't wait until the swelling is all of the way down. Good luck girl !

All,

I am sleeved !!!! I am in MX and I was sleeved around 10:30 am. Feels fine. I have been walking . I am full of drugs. Dr Alvarez repaired a hiatal hernia along with the sleeve. Jessica the nurse is great very caring and helpfully. Thank you for the support. Really smooth expirence so far.

Regards,

Daddyfat2thin

Congrats! Best wishes in your journey.

Sleeved yesterday morning around 7:30am. My experience so far hasnt been so bad. The doc told me after surgery that they found a hiatal hernia and a little disease on the liver which was from being obese and possibly any medicines. Im still terribly sore from gas and wishing i could have something to drink. I started walking right after i left the recovery room and have been walking off and on since. The incision sites are a little sore and only hurt when i sit up too long.

I think the bed is making the back pain worse. Im able to burp a little but none from the other end. Im really sensitive to smells and had to request another nurse asst b/c the one i had bathed in this awful cologne.

Anyway i would love to hear some positive experiences for the Aug 10th sleevers!

I also have been so incredibly sensitive to smells. The same thing happened to me when I got pregnant. But there are times I hate it-certain things make me gag that I never used to even notice before! Laundry soap, certain foods, etc. I hope this goes away! Anyone else know anything about this?

Hello everyone. It's taken hours to read about everyone since I left for Disney on Monday. Kelly I'm so glad to read you are doing well! Is your little guy taking care of mamma? I think I identified with you because we have similar aged little ones and similar fears. I'm glad to see none came true!

So many have done well after surgery. It's comforting to read as I face my date (I noticed I got kicked off the list while I was gone by the way....mine is the 23rd in Seattle).

I'm n day three of the preop which is easy as its just less than 40grams of carbs per day. I started in Disney (the land of sugar added to everything lol). My only deprivation was no gin and tonic on Thursday lol. It was 93 degrees and that sounded so good (oddly cuz I don't drink hard liquor). So I had a nice white wine instead. I was joking with dh that I may just eat meat and have eight glasses of wine daily through the preop lol. Last night we jumped off the plane and went to a wine tasting charity event. Fortunately it was an argenatinian style dinner which means lots of Protein. I did enjoy the wine...lots of it (to taste I mean) but didn't even hit my 40 carbs.

It's great to be back home today! Monday I have my preop surgeon visit with dh and they will give me my time then. I can't wait! Tuesday I do my 90 min nut visit so I can prepare for the after diet (it's also supposed to discuss the pre but they gave me a break). I am also going to have some Lipo during surgery so maybe I'll be down in lbs quicker than I thought lol. I agreed to donate some fat to a cancer study of people who have no cancer history in their family going back three generations. They think there is something in the fat cells which might fight cancer. I told them they could have all the fat they want.....and maybe some from my butt in the future if they wish lol

I'm just wondering if that will delay recovery but I'll be meeting with them Monday too so we will see.

Best wishes all....you have been in my thoughts...even when I was in the tower of terror lol

Not sure how I missed this Aug. group so far, but here goes. . . My surgery was Aug 7 in Dallas. It was performed by Dr. Nicholas at Forrest Park Medical Center. I had a pretty serious nausea reaction to the anesthesia so I had to stay 2 nights in the hospital. Home now on Dr. Nick's 3 week super thin to clear liquid diet. Sippin some iced tea and starting to feel a little stronger.

I also had terrible nausea and finally got a patch that goes behind my ear and it made all the difference in the world. i am on clear liquids for 3 weeks as well, i am not really hungry though. I've been getting in 30-35 oz of liquids. each day is better.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
