Type "Thyroid" in the Search button. There are quite few threads on this topic.

I have Graves Disease, and even though it helped me to be slim all my life, 2 years ago it turned, and I gained 41kg from 2014-2016

I had to have Radioactive Iodine done and stabilise my thyroid pre-op. This took 9 months, and I finally got sleeved early March this year (instead of July 2015).

After RAI, it took 4 months for my thyroid to stop functioning, and I started on Thyroxine 100 mcg January 2016.

With continuous weight-loss, the dose got too strong, and I went hyper again.

My Thyroxine dose is now halved, at 50 mcg.

Also, I was told that at 74 kg I would be deemed a success.

Well, I am now 70 kg, and still losing.

I plan to get back to 60 kg. I am 6 months post op, lost 30 kg so far, even though I was lower BMI with thyroid disease.

I am 165 cm in height. At 101 kg I was obese.

Now, I look more like myself again!

I am also in my 50s, post menopause (had an earlier one), and had no issues with losing weight.

I maybe losing slower than some, but at least I did not lose any hair, and have very little loose skin.

Some Surgeons deem a patient success at 60-65 % weight-loss.

Many sleevers lose lot more.

Good luck!

Thanks Krakow57 and congratulations n your success to date. My thyroid was diagnosed 11 months ago. Was started on 50mcg Oroxine then retest three months later. Still low so Orxine was upped to 75mcg. Recheck three months later and all good. Retest three months later and way down again. Oroxine up to 100mcg and retest in three months. Aaaaargh so over it. That being said you are proof that good loses can still occur. I was aware of all the great success numbers I've seen on this forum and was just a bit gobsmacked about how adamant my doctor was that I would not lose more than 20-25kg and offered no hope or encouragement to even try for a greater loss. I guess these forums and positive sleevers like yourself will have to be my support. Thanks again.

Very welcome, and thank you!

Happy to offer support, anytime :)

Yes, the med levels can be a pain ..... For me, since my surgery, I have been needing less and less Thyroxine. I am waiting to get to my goal, and maintenance, so my Thyroxine level should finally stabilise.

I wish you good result from your next blood test. You too may need less of your med, further down post op.

Many Thyroid sleevers had their doses reduced, after weight-loss.

Are you in Australia as well? If yes, what state and city?

Cheers

Great! Years ago I moved from Sydney to Bribie Island.

I live on the Gold Coast now.

I'll add you as a Friend, so it will be easier to find each other or PM.

If you ever come to the Goldy Coast, please let me know.

Margo

Speaking for myself I would go with it. Maybe losing that initial weight might give you more motivation and determination. I have hashimotos on meds not menopausal but can praise the sleeve enough. Loving my body again. Gone are the days when I wouldn't be caught dead in a clothes shop to buy clothes knowing I was gonna hate what I see. Was size 22 and 98kgs now size 16 and 72.1 kgs had sleeve 7/3/16 now 6 mths later. I have more energy and like the new me, still aiming to lose more weight, steady progress.

Amazing....i lived on Bribie for most of my life until a few years ago but still live nearby. (Haven't announced my decision to the world yet hence my aloofness about where exactly I live...lol) Even more amazing is that If I do go ahead with the surgery I plan to have it done on the Gold Coast so would love to stay in touch through the Friend option. You might just need to tell me how I access that as I am still trying to navigate my way around here....lol.

Amazing, small world! I moved to the Gold Coast in 2008.

We could have passed each other in the shopping centre!

Sure, no need to tell where exactly you are.

To send me a message, just click on my profile name/photo, then select Private Message.

Or, you can go to your own Profile section, find me under your Friends, and click on me there.

What I can do is to PM you, so this way it will be easier for you.

Yes, it is a huge site, and takes a while to get to know it.

I was operated on by dr. Jordaan at Pindarra Private.

Anyway, it would be good to keep in touch, especially if you think you may have your surgery on the Gold Coast.

Wow, we were sleeved almost at the same time.

I was sleeved on 8th March 2016, so I am 6 months post op also :)

I was 101 kg, and now I am 70 kg.

Just have 5-10 kg more to lose.

Glad you are doing well! Congratulations!

G'day all.

First post. Heading in for the sleeve on 19 October in Sydney. Can't wait - bring it on.

Currently a week into Optifast, with one week to go.

Max weight 139 kg, but was 128 kg a week ago when I had my pre-op. Hoping to get down to 85ish (at 178cm tall).

Not generally my style to post on forums and the like - but I figure this makes me accountable. I also figure a lack of accountability is what resulted in me hitting 139 kg in the first place (so something had to change!)

I've been reading these forums for a while now. So I wanted to say thanks to everyone for your truly inspirational stories. Everyone's just done incredibly well - and fingers crossed in about 6 months' time, I'll be able to say the same for myself.

Cheers, all.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
