Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I've had a bad case of gastro for the last day but I think it is finally over. I was even running to the toilet half the night. Every half hour. I'm sure I swallowed some river Water while rafting and swimming. I only managed about 25 grams of Protein yesterday but I'm doing better today. We spent the morning shopping so I plan to rest for the rest of the day. Next week will be very full of meetings and training.

Hi Nikki!

First week if opti is done and dusted. Woohoo! Only one more week to go...

The thought of dying does scare me and over the last week I have been tossing up the idea to write letters to my kids - just in case. In saying that though' date=' it is a risk I am willing to take. I would prefer to be healthy and active so that I can enjoy life with my boys rather than eat myself to death, which is where I was heading. But that's just me. U will make the decision that is right for u.

I have lost 4 kg so far on my opti diet, and already I am noticing a difference. I have been more active in the last week than I have in months. Isn't it amazing that by just dropping those couple of kilos I feel so much better? Or us that just my mind playing games with me? Either way I'm happy :)[/quote']

Great result in your first week pre op. Re your fears I can honestly say the the thought of dying as a result of getting the sleeve did not cross my mind for even one second. It is a non invasive operation with an extremely low likelihood of risk. If I hadn't done this I would have continued to develop further weight related illnesses and risked dying younger than I should have. It's normal to have rational fears but if you can, focus on the positives. The sleeve is a great tool and easy to live with once you get used to it. I am 11 months post op and now down 32kgs. Absolutely no regrets.

I agree with the others nicki, didn't cross my mind either.I think I was more concerned about getting a leak.I personally feel like I have so much more energy and am still adjusting to this new way.My surgeon "Dr Tim Wright"never told me how much stomach he was removing and it wasn't a question I thought to ask.All he said to me was its a fine line in getting it right. If you don't take enough you don't loose well and if you take to much there's all kinds of problems. He had specialised in banding for years but had only fairly resently started doing sleeves.Because I knew him and had seen him before I chose him but he had only done about 25 sleeves. All of you talk about your visits to your surgeons.I feel I haven't had that support.I saw him when I booked and the day of my op.Thats it.He relies on the dietician. In sayin that I have no regrets.Good luck with your choices and I'm sure the sleeve would work for you.

Hi Cathy, as it's considered a 'stitch & forget' operation it seems common to only see your surgeon a couple of times post op, especially if they arrange blood tests although this can also be arranged by your GP. Post op I have found working with my dietician the most important support. I love the fact the sleeve is low maintenance and permanent!! Great to hear you have more energy already. Isn't it a wonderful and liberating feeling?

Hi guys I'm back! And on the losers bench!! 5 days post op and sitting in hospital waiting to be discharged. What a ride, if I can give any advice other than what I have read on here is to heads your family up! I went to icu but luckily had told my kids that this could be a possibility. It scared them but they coped ok. Family meant everything to me as it was scary and a little painful, they kept encouraging me that light was at the end of the tunnel and because I gave them as much info as I could they knew my down moments and what to say to help!! Support is the key xox thanks to you all for your support and I look forward to passing on mine to whoever needs it

Yeah what happened?? I'm glad you are well enough to be online now.

I managed to borrow a scale after having to skip weigh-in last week and I'm down another 4.7 kg to 81! I have lost 17 kg total. Only 2 kg to my weight at my wedding, which was after 6 months of very strict weight watchers. Just a little more until i lose the morbid from obese. It is possible some of this loss is all the gastro I've been having but I've been doing so much walking and other exercise as well.

Thanks guys it is good to be home! Icu is somewhat standard for my surgeon, I also had some chest pain but eventuated to nothing. It was nice to have the added attention from the nurses in my time of need. I have such great respect for nurses, they were fantastic. I was just mentioning to a fellow soon to be sleever and told her about my use of yoga before the op, I used yogic breathing technique to control my pain post op. I highly recommend it to everyone. Misty well done honey! Yes gastro may have contributed to some of the loss recently but nothing to do with your overall fantastic achieve not thus far!

Hi everyone! Just touching base.Day 13 and soon to start puree.Yippee! I have fought off another bout of the chest infection that my GP threatened to put me back into hospital for.Not loving the effects of the antibiotics but my sleeve seems fine.I can drink Water easily and don't have any nausea. My new best friend is a tspn of greek yoghurt if I get hungry.I try not to worry that I have hunger already as I am definitely filling up quickly on very little and Protein helps a lot.I don't think it helps that I am cooking and baking for my family as usual ! Thanks to everyone for their advice and support earlier.

Total weight lost since the op 4kg.

Total lost since first consult with Dr Mosse in April 14kg.

Hi guys- exciting news today... I reached my surgeons goal. I have lost 80kg in 10 1/2 months. I feel amazing!

I still wanna lost about 10-15 kg from here but I feel great. My BMI is still in the overweight range but my surgeon didn't care- she based my goal weight off my build and that my top weight was so high- although I am sure she will be pleased to see me under goal at my yearly appointment in early October :)

I am travelling for work- in Newcastle for a few days but here is a quick shot of me at GOAL!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
