Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Hi everyone' date='

Started my 4 weeks on soft food on mon!!! It's good to be off purée, nothing that tastes good looks good puréed lol! I have had a heap of stupid moments along my short journey, with 1 freaking me right out thinking I'd busted my sleeve. It was prob the kick in the arse I needed! I will definitely say this has not been an easy journey for me, struggling with eating. I was fooling myself that I'm fine now and can eat what I want (along comes reality check). This was also my first week back at work so I had a few hurdles there trying to hide my lack of eating etc and energy. I also had a heap of guys asking how I lost 18 kgs in 7 weeks, I hate lying. Anyway the longer I go the better its getting. Can't wait to get back into training.

Hi Scotty, you are doing really well and congratulations on progressing to the soft food stage. You will be able to eat pretty much anything before long, but the small quantity is definitely hard to get used to. I've not regretted my decision and am glad I an still enjoy some of my favourite foods without feeling guilty.

Just got back from going out to dinner. First time since surgery.

Went to a Peruvian restaurant in West End. I ordered a chicken curry. It had potatoes in it and rice on the side. I just ate the chicken. I'd estimate I ate less than 100g. That's not the cool bit. I can't believe the almost disregard I had for the food. It was really liberating. I felt more engaged with the people I was with and I enjoyed what I ate, but to be honest it was probably the first time ever that socialising was the top priority for me in a situation like that and not what I could consume.

It felt good.

I have lean pork stir frys, meatballs, turkey mince. These are all easy to chew really well and keep down. Cruskits aren't as healthy as you think. They are very high gi and won't keep you feeling full or energized for very long. I can't do sushi at all yet. I have trouble with rice. 1 bite and I'm stuffed.

I have chicken, salmon and pork - all not a problem. I only really get a mouthful of vegs though after I eat my Protein first. A lot of stir frys

Lunches are either a sandwich thin/ a sushi roll or a grain ryvita. I have never had a problem with any food.

I find denser (is that a word lol) meats such as chicken, steak, sausages etc really tough and though I can eat it, I can only have a teeny tiny amount. Mince is good but fish is best. Veggies are nearly impossible by the time I eat my Protein - if I do eat veggies, then I just simply have less Protein. I suppose I eat around 50g-80g of protein at dinner (again, depending on if I try to eat veggies too).

Since the surgery I can't eat dairy much at all. Yoghurt's okay. I have no desire for sweet stuff at all. Which is pretty great - I can't remember the last time that I went 3 months (it's a bit more now actually) without having any chocolate :) I do love this aspect of my sleeve...

I'm stoked with the sleeve at this point. In 2 weeks I've lost 10kg. My clothes now fit (and dare I say my trousers are getting a little too loose) vs being so tight I really needed to go up a size. Just before surgery I saw a dress I really liked. I could JUST get it over my head and it certainly didn't go close to zipping up. Yesterday I wore it! My skin has improved. Now to conquer the wardrobe of clothes I have waiting for me. You know- those clothes we buy for "one day when I lose weight." :)

I am making normal dinners- stir fry's, roasts, cottage pie full of veg, even wonton Soup, and just having half a cup of the meal. So with a roast I would have a small slice of meat, small piece of baked pumpkin, tiny piece of potato, small piece of broccoli and coliflower as well. Bare in mind all that adds up to around 1/2 to 3/4 at the most. Last night I made wonton soup for the family and had 3 wonton and a little of the soup, again around 1/2 cup in total.

Lila im jealous, although my sleeve has curbed a lot of desires...chocolate isn't one of them. I probably crave it the most:-(

I'm the same with chocolate. Has anybody else bought an advent calendar for themselves? I figure 1 tiny piece of chocolate isn't going to be that bad, surely. I'm such a fatty.

I got one. I'm finding it hard to stuff a box of favourites into each little pocket .......

It might change for me as I get better about eating :0 At the moment, it's just so much effort to eat enough Protein etc to keep me going the thought of wasting any "space" in the belly for "non-essentials" makes me feel a little sick :) I won't knock it though lol

Hi guy's,

So I weighed myself today on the "heavy" scales at work. At first it was hovering between 115-124kg and I got really excited lol. But the nurse who was there told me to step all the way forward and yep, it bounced back to 130.2. 0.2kg off the damn 120's - curse you scales *shaking fists at the sky* :P

I know these scales can weigh me between 4-5kg heavier than the new electronic scales over in the dr's surgery so when I go next week I will weigh myself over there and see the difference. But at the worst, this means my weight loss is 37kg since September.

I even went shopping for the first time since I had surgery - that is 3 months people. And it was nice because I felt pretty good walking around - admittedly it was just an hour but it's an hour I couldn't have done even a few weeks ago.

And I am not sure if I mentioned this already (sorry if I am repeating myself) but I tried on a size 20 dress at Target this week. Size 20! Considering before surgery the 26's in the Moda (Target) branded stuff often wouldn't fit, this is an awesome experience!! Now, I am not saying that the dress wouldn't have looked better with another 10kg off but I could wear it and in a pinch, in public lol :) Totally cool!

Hope you're all well! Cheers, Lila

Wow Lila, that's great. 37kg is amazing. I know what you mean with the shopping. I set myself the goal of doing all my Xmas shopping for my daughter, including Santa stuff, in under 3hrs today. I knew all the big things I was going to get, just had to go to all the different shops and also find all those little things. I did it in 2.5hrs and didn't have to stop once. Woohoo. All done.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
