When Someone Asks You How Much You Have Lost...

Recommended Posts

Do you give them the total from your absolute highest pre-op weight or just since surgery? I feel like I am saying so much "Well, 30 lbs since surgery, but 43 overall".. How do you answer?

i just tell them my overall loss....to me it doesn't matter what I lost before the surgery only what the total is at this point!

I was sleeved last week. I plan to answer that query with "a lot." My weight is no one's business just as the fact that I had bariatric surgery. When people ask how I lost my weight, I plan to answer, "diet and exercise." In each case, I am telling the truth, but preserving my privacy.

Overall, for sure. You worked hard for every pound you lost; Celebrate it

I'm so damn proud to tell anyone, 62 pounds so far, and that is from the start to now. I figure, if they ask, they have notice, and maybe, they want inspiration. .who knows.

Other then sharing on the sleeve support boards, i don't tell people how much i have lost or my absolute starting weight. If i did, I would include my 8# preop loss,

The only people who are asking are my parents, and I etiher tell them "about" the total amount, or I tell them I haven't weighed lately. They know I do not subscribe to the scale mentality and only get weighed when needed for soemthing else. Often, "abouts" are all I can give. But since I lost it, I report the full amount when I can.

If I know the person is contemplating surgery, I reply just like you - # pre-op and # since surgery. If they are just curious, I just say an approx number.

I don't tell anybody how much I've lost except this board. My ex (still really good friends) can't manage to say the right thing no matter what he says or how hard he tries. Sample comments: "I can't believe you're still losing when you eat so much" -- yea, right, a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese and 1/4 cup of strawberries ... Or questions like "So how much have you lost this week?" especially when I was in a stall. Or that classic: "How much have you lost altogether?" Bottom line is it's nobody's business but mine.

So I just told him it was something we could no longer discuss. I just tell everyone else that I'm on my way to a size 10 and then I'll consider myself "done."

Honestly, even though I'm down almost 40 lbs (from surgery, ha!) no one besides my husband and mother in law have asked how much I've lost. I always tell my mother in law the full amt, but my husband has gone through the entire process with me, so he knows the # I give him is since March.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
