Whole Grain Crackers Or Wheat Thins.

Recommended Posts

I am just about to start mushies but am dreaming of the day I can eat whole grain crackers or wheat thins. I know that refined bread and such can cause problems for us post- op but would like to know if any of you have been able to tolerate whole grain breads and crackers post-op and if so how far out were you. I know that Protein will always be first for us but I strongly believe that whole grains should be a vital part of any healthy weight loss plan or lifestyle. Thoughts?

I read somewhere that the thing to keep in mind is the difference between crispy crackers, which will chew up into mush very easily (think saltines/soda crackers) and crunchy crackers (like wheat thins). Some diets allow crispy crackers during or right after the mushy phase. But crunchy crackers which break into sharp/hard bits come much later. I love wheat thins too, but I think I would wait until about six months out before eating anything that crunchy ... I am just a month out and I have been able to have an occasional couple of soda crackers with no ill effects.

I would suggest neither if they are gluten (aka wheat flour!) gluten and Dairy keep mucous in your body and in the healing stages you want that mucous out!

6 months for crackers? Oh heck. Just chew them well. I eat something called Sommersaults. They are whole grain with sunflower seeds. They are lower carb and high Protein. I don't eat any carb food unless the Protein is very high or it is lower glycemic. These aren't flat dipping crackers, but they satisfy my want for crackers.

I, too, have had saltines. I haven't really tried any other crackers, because there is nothing to put on them...I am still mushy stage...I mostly eat scrambled egg, squash casserole, green Beans. I did buy some diced pears and made a pear salad. It was actually pretty good. I tried applesauce but it gave me heartburn. So I am sticking to mostly Protein foods. Although, I feel like I cannot do a complete low-carb diet, because I am still not eating meat for another 11 days or so. Once I can eat tuna or shredded chicken, I think I will have better food choices to keep it lower carb. I actually ate my saltines in cream of chicken Soup.< img src="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
