kimmr got a reaction from transmformme in Breastfeeding And The SleeveI'm not sure about the drug situation, but I think it would be hard with the lack of fluids.
When I was breastfeeding my first daughter, I got the flu, and threw up for a solid day. I couldn't keep anything down. I didn't have to stop breastfeeding at that time, but my supply drastically reduced, and it took me a while to get it back up again.
When I was sleeved, I had to stop drinking Water at midnight on Monday night. I was sleeved Tuesday at 8:00 am, and then wasn't allowed water by mouth until about 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Of course, during that whole time, I was receving IV fluids, so that kept me hydrated. Regarding actual calories, I was allowed 1 tsp of Protein drink an hour starting at about 8 pm on Wednesday night.
I'm not saying that it would be impossible to continue breastfeeding after surgery, but I would think you'd definitely experience a set back, at the very least.

kimmr got a reaction from nowatgoal in I'm Certain That Vsg Will Kill Me.Hey Petal...well, I went through with it and came out on other side. I did feel a huge sense of relief as soon as I woke up that was most definitely tied to the fact that the debate was over. I had revised to a sleeve, I could no longer justify that internal struggle.
Does that make sense? I'm not saying that I don't still have some concerns that I made the right decision, or that I might face some unknown consequences...especially long term. But, the surgery is done, I can no longer lose sleep over whether or not I'm making the right decision. I made that decision because, with the information I know now, it was the best decision for me.
My therapist has explained it nicely....regret is a choice. You CHOOSE to regret something. And if you choose to regret something, that means you're holding yourself accountable for knowing what the future holds, which is completely asinine. I made the best decision that I could for myself in 2012. If 2025 gets here, and something is wrong, well, I still won't 'regret' it, because in 2012, there's no way I could know what's going to happen in 2025.
I bugs me when people post these, "do you regret it?" posts. I just don't like the term 'regret.' It seems sort of simple minded. Maybe I'm being harsh, but that's the way I see it.

kimmr got a reaction from Sleeved&Hopeful in I'm Certain That Vsg Will Kill Me.Hey all, thanks for your words of encouragement.
I do need to do this. First and foremost, I have a malfunctioning band that needs to come out. As poor as my band is right now, it is giving me some restriction, and I gained 40 lbs on that 'some restiction.' I can't imagine how fast I'd gain with no band. ....actually, I don't need to imagine that, that was my life over and over and over again pre-WLS.
Tomorrow's the day. I'm nervous, for sure, but like I said before, I'm confident I'll come out of surgery just fine, I just worry about the long term unknowns.
But, as someone said earlier, I can't live in fear. I just have to make the best decision I can with the information I have in front of me.
Thanks everyone.

kimmr got a reaction from Sleeved&Hopeful in I'm Certain That Vsg Will Kill Me.@Wheetin...I think you've hit the nail on the head, but maybe in a round about way.
This statement is interesting, though:
"It's not about the weight I'm going to lose, it's about the weight I'm never going to have to lose again."
See, that's what I told myself when I got the band, and here I am, needing to lose the same lbs. I think that really is what it boils down to..I've been through this once, thought it was once and for all, and clearly it wasn't.
And..when is your date? Mine is Tuesday, the 27th. Also, I'm pretty close to you...up near Omaha.

I have been lurking in this thread for a while now, and you guys have really answered a lot of questions I had. However, I still have some reservations about if the sleeve is right for me.
My biggest problem with the band, besides the vomiting, chronic heartburn, never finding the phantom sweet spot, and getting stuck, was never feeling satisfied or full; I just felt STUCK, and once unstuck, still hungry.
Can anyone describe how the full feeling with the sleeve differs from that? Do you actually feel full and satisfied?
I was self pay with the band and feel like I just threw that money away, so I want to be very sure before I try again.
I'm so confused!! Help me please-
Thanks!!

kimmr got a reaction from CCWriter in Band To Sleeve - I Can't Believe How Sad I Am About All This.@Dorrie - hubby supports me in what ever I choose. He loved me at 250 lbs, he loves me at 175, he'll love me again at 250. I just don't want to be at 250. I finally got to be the person that I've always felt like inside (turns out, I do have style, I like to play sports....things I never knew because it wasn't really feasible with my weight). He's willing to go through all the financial crap to pay for another surgery. He (and I probably should, too) views my weight problem as any other medical problem....just because insurance doesn't cover it doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. BionicBroad pointed something out to me last week....if I was a cancer patient, would I be second guessing my decision to pursue treatment? Of course not. Cancer would kill me if left untreated, obesity will too.
And, I agree, I maybe be looking at some sort of depression. But I have no idea how to tell. I do know that we have loads of other extremely depressing **** going on in our lives right now....hubby's little sister is dying of ALS (at the age of 23), his Grandma that we've been closest with over the years is really starting to go downhill with her Alzheimer's (she had to ask our names at Christmas), his mom is going crazy because she's losing her daughter and her mother at the same time, and she refuses to see a counselor, my Dad's house just burnt (not totally, but he's out of the house for about 6 months), AND then, I get this awful band news. All that, work, and raising two preschoolers.
I feel like if I didn't have to think about my weight and gaining everything back, as in, if I had the same peace of mind regarding my weight that I did this past summer, I feel like I could handle everything else. Like, if I felt like I was healthy, and I was going to maintain my OWN health, I could deal with everything else.
Also, FYI, I'm not putting off the counseling. I desperately want to go, truly. I just had to wait until after the first of the year to get 3 free sessions. I doubt my problems will be solved in 3 sessions, but that should give me a few weeks to get the ol' HSA deposit for the first of 2012.
Rahnava....I'll PM you.
Thanks for your insight.
