Im A May Sleever!

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved may 10.. I went home the next day. I think if there are complications you may have to stay longer. I have already dropped 11.4 pounds:) I am super happy. I felt pretty crappy the first two days I was home.. Lots of gas pain and hurt to swallow but today I feel great almost as if I hadn't been operated on. Good luck!!

Hi, I was also sleeved on May 10th & had 2 nights in the hospital & 2 nights in a hotel (in Mexico) & doing fantastic!

No pain since I woke up from sugery, no gas, just mild nausea the first 24 hours after surgery!

Congrats everyone! :D I was also sleeved on the 10th with dr. Ponce de leon, not feeling too bad! My biggest concern right now is the clear liquid diet. I received my Unjury shipment in the mail this morning and think the chicken broth will take a bit of tinkering to get it to the right temperature, but I'm getting lots of Water in and am in minimal pain :) I'm not entirely sure if my scale is telling me the truth, I wonder sometimes if it's a little generous one way or another. Right now it's telling me that I'm about 20 lbs lighter than I was a week before surgery at my last weigh in :o

Sharon, I've got to say, you looked great!! I'm so sorry that we didn't get to say goodbye, I thought we would get a chance later in the day. Keep us updated on how you're doing, it was so great to meet you! :)

Thanks Krista, it was good to meet up with you & get to see you both!

I wasn't sure that I could have the Unjury chicken broth in the first 10 days as my diet says Clear Liquids & that isn't really clear. Plus it has Protein & I am not meant to add Protein Drinks until day 10 post-op. But maybe your post-op diet is different?

I tried it pre-op though & really liked it. I would just run the faucet as hot as it would get & use Water like that. So not boiling, but hot water & it worked fine.

Congrats on losing 20lbs, that is AWESOME, you rock girl!

I think my post op diet is similar. The nutritionist told me not to worry about the Protein until after day 10, but I figure one serving of the protein broth a day might be a good thing to help healing. I also have some of the unflavored stuff that I might try in a batch of Jello later in the week and see how that works out :) How was your trip home?

Flight was pretty uneventful & went quick, which was good. I did want to upgrade to business class, but it was full already when I checked in.

Just over 5hr flight, so not too bad. I wore my compression stockings & got up to walk around a few times too.

I'm having a hard time taking my meds. I am 2 weeks out. I have some meds that I need to take. I crush them with applesauce. They it my tongue and that's it I'm puking, dry heaving! Help!

Oh I hate taking my meds. I have 3 pills to take each morning, all pretty small. But still hard to take them with a sip of Water. I get them down though, but sometimes gag. I do one at a time & just try to take a sip, if it is still there another sip, & so on, until it goes down!

But that is the only thing post op (I am 5 days out) that I am disliking so far!

My doc wants them crushed! He doesn't want anything getting stuck in the stomach? Do you think I could put it in a small amount of milkshake or smoothy made low sugar. I know it's not on the diet but I don't know what to do.

Anyone else going to have their sleeve in May? I'm excited and now the nervousness has set in. I am reading a few posts that people are in the hospital for like 3 days. My dr said I would only be in the hospital one day. And that I would walk the same day as my surgery.... Is this something they tell everyone or should I plan on more than one day there? Either way' date=' my life changes May 16th and I'm excited <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

I'm in Alabama; my doctor said he finds sleeve patients are more nauseous than bypass; so he keeps two nights: I was not allowed to eat or drink the whole day of surgery; next morning they did a upper G I WITH barrium; r

Then when cleared started on clear liquid for 2 days.

If u don't eat or drink your meals and Water enough they won't let you go. I had compression machines on my legs and shots in my stomach every 12 hours . Seems your dr isn't as precautious? I know day one I slept as much as I could ; since I been home I haven't been down much.

I'm May 10 th ALSO! Glad to have same Sayers on here. My only pain is at the largest site / when I twist or jerk trying to get up from flat bed; I have a external stitch there. Not to mention its right at my rib bones and under my 44DD breast. So I guess that's why it is bothering me. I have some general discomfort; but doing well. Sitting and lying too long makes my lower back( had 2 surgerys) and my neck hurt. So I have been out and about with precaution, cause I just can't stay down.

Just click on the far right side. It has "...". Then click on the top that days subscriptions. Then read those messages. Those are the direct responses to a topic you posted in or started.

Best of luck on your recovery.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
