Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

Recommended Posts

I haven't posted in awhile on this forum. I am 5 ft 2 inches and I was sleeved Nov. 12, 2012. My highest weight before surgery was 225.5. I'm proud to say that I am now 139.4 and the goal weight the doctor set was 130. I'm 66 years old now, have walked two 5 ks. First time ever! I had total knee replacement 2 years ago so can't run the races but finished the last one in an hour. (Color Run) The weight loss has been steady, but I hang around at a weight for a couple of weeks and then will drop about 1/2 pound. I started out 2x or 22/24 and just bought size 12 pants, and size 14 jeans. I was lucky and never had stretch marks with all the weight I gained and my two pregnancies. I have flab but it is not as bad as I thought it would be and others don't notice it in my clothes. My husband of 43 years says I look so much better!! I am waiting to hear from the doctor if I can stay off my bi-pap which I've had for about 9 years, and am off all anti inflammatory, high blood pressure, and cholesterol meds. Still need a few meds and the Bariatric Fusion Vitamins. My sister and brother don't acknowledge what I have done, but my friends and other family members do. You can do this for yourself only!

Hi, having surgery 1/13, happy to find this particular forum. I am 5' 1 1/2" weighing in at 204. Starting my liquid diet on January 2, 2014. Scared, thinking I'm not " heavy enough" to do this, missing food already, but knowing I need help. Working with a therapist since September. I know there's more to my life than what's been going on now, tired, depressed, frustrated and hating my body and myself. Need to start the transformation! Looking for some support. Love this site.

Hi blessed. I'm hanging in there but a little frustrated. I'm hungry, I've been walking 2 miles a day on treadmill and trying to push the envelope a little. Tired of Isopure Protein Drink and not getting satisfied from broth. I'm supposed to be eating creamed drained Soups but that sound awful so I keep going back to broth. My husband also had the surgery 2 1/2 weeks before me but you know he's a man and he does his own thing! Any suggestions. Don't want to complain. Bc I don't have a tremendous amount to lose I feel unsure how to talk about this. I'm 5'1 CW 179. Thanks for asking!!! How are you doing

HI all!

So I haven't posted in a while.

I'm in a different place than many of you.

I just had a baby, I met my goal weight and (intentionally) got pregnant. It was a hard pregnancy, but medically so much better than my other 2 from when I was heavy. My birth was a dream, literally everything I've wanted in a birth (home Water birth, baby born in the caul)

So now here I am 4 weeks post partum and 15 lbs above my lowest weight. I keep hoping and hoping it'll magically fall off, but alas, no dice. I can't wait until I can start running hard again, as I enjoyed it before. Right now I am enjoying baby snuggles and remembering to not eat like I'm pregnant, which is easier than I thought 'cause I'm busy with 3 kids now!

cbwalker....

I know your dilemma! I went through something similar, except I didn't like the protien anything at all. It all made me gag it was awful. Have you made a homemade broth? I made myself a good chicken Bone Broth, with lots of chicken feet in it, it really loads up the collagen and that helped me to heal and to feel fuller, maybe it was just my mind, but I knew that it was a nutritional powerhouse so I felt good drinking it. If chicken feet gross you out (they might, but they're so good for you! and you don't eat them) just do a good bone broth with backs and necks. It'll gel less but it'll still be super good for you and so nourishing. Also this too shall pass. I kept reminding myself that the liquid phase was short and that I'd be through it soon and I'd just remember it, and not be living it.

good luck!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
