Good morning.....now i remember! I'm laughing because I'm 5"31/2 and often say I'm 5'4" too! I'm just about to turn 59; was sleeved last year 5 days after my 58th BD. I just hit my goal weight yesterday! (Posted that and my moment of truth story on my weekly blog: www.queenofcrop.com It's the top of the range (141 according to the CDC) but my real goal is to make it into the 130's and bounce around in there and use 140 as my cut off weight....if I hit that I need to cut back, exercise more, yadayada....

Keep in touch....how interesting that you will be sleeved the same month as me too! Good sign!

Hi all. Happy Monday! I am now down over 50 lbs WooHoo! All of my clothes are pretty much hanging on me. (Even the too small ones from the back of my closet). Going to have to break down and buy new clothes soon.

Way to go! Isn't it an amazing feeling to watch those sizes go down!

Looks like we have birthdays coming soon. I am 59 for another month. Mine is 10-25 and I'll be 60. It looks like I'll have to move over to the 60's threads. :-(

Just thought I would post my 6 month post op stats. I have lost a total of 57lb and as I would like to lose 100lb that is 57%. I seem to be losing slow but sure, skin so far is OK. At the begining of my journey I used to get upset at the slow loss but I have come to terms with it now and at least I am losing. Clothes look better and I am much happier in myself.

Hi UK Cathy! I don't think 57lbs is bad at all that's 9.5lbs a month!!! at that rate you will be at goal in 6 more months, and that seems to be the average around here. So congrats on your success ;)

I myself am going to be sleeved on the 22nd of this month, and am curious about your Hair loss, have you had any? I am a revision and had my band out June 26th of this year and am really noticing a lot of hair loss now and am really getting worried about more hair loss to come with this next surgery. I personally think its the anesthesia more so than the Protein issues everyone talks about.

My Hair loss started at about 3 months out and for one month seemed to be quite fierce. It is much better now and has slowed down a lot. I did cut my hair shorter so that the amount of hair lying around was not so noticable.

All of us lose at different rates. Two people at work have had the surgery, and it seems to be a competition to them. They make an issue that I haven't lost as fast as them. I'm doing what I'm suppose to do, so can only go with the loss I have. I have been fortunate in the Hair loss department. I'm at 4 months and have just sen a slight increase in hair loss from normal. (Yeah!!) Going through my closet today, and by time I get finished getting rid of the things that are too large to think about wearing now, my closet will be basically empty! Going to try to wait a few more weeks before buying new clothes.

Gained 5 lbs last week, but this week most of it is gone. I think most is Water weight, because I quite taking my 1/2 diuretic about a week ago. In the long run I think this will be a good move. Now the only medication I am taking is my acid reflux pill. Hope to be off of it soon.

Went on a 6 mile bike ride today, and didn't get winded. I would say overall, all is very good. LOL

Hello Fab 50's ! Well its been 9 days since I was sleeved and everything is going great ! My surgery went very well, didn't have enormous gas pains & went off pain meds after the first day. I was down 14 lbs from the prediet but when I got home I was up 7lbs. That must have been a side effect of the surgery cause that was gone in a couple days & I am now down 24lbs overall. I am so happy that I made the decision to do this. Life is beautiful :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
