Best of luck to all the newbies. I'm now 51 and been at goal for a long time. The only plastics I've had to do is new boobies as the old ones were 30yrs old and needed to be replaced. Got them a little bigger to fill up some of the space that used to be filled with fat. My cheeks are a bit hollow now and I might someday deal with that, but overall it's been nothing but a positive experience for my health and well-being! Better late than never I say! My sis-in-law is in her mid-50's and going to have VSG soon also. It will add many wonderful years to our lives.

I am 52, and sleeved on July 3rd, 2012. I came through the surgery with flying colors. Didn't even get my pain meds filled for home. I have had 2 c-sections, a triple hernia repair, and a hysterectomy. This paled in comparison in terms of pain, and healing.

The biggest adjustment after surgery was learning what I could eat without the food getting "stuck".

I am very active, and in the middle of a 10-week boot camp. Down 33 lbs, and feeling good as my clothes get bigger. I just have to learn the art of patience, and be happy with what I have lost so far, and NOT obsessing over the scale. (yeah, right!).

I will be 60 in October and I am sure glad I was sleeved over 3 years ago. I sure don't feel 60. I am sure if I had not had WLS, I would feel like an old lady.

I am 51 and really had not so bad of a time. Some nausia but that was easy to get thru allergy to anathesia. Nothing since surgery. Just need to learn your limits. Follow your Docs instructions and err on the side of caution. Good Luck! I am 6 months out and just had a great check up. 74 lbs down 35 to go..... Yea

Hi all, I am 50 and was sleeved on August 1st exactly 1 week after my 50th birthday. So far all is going well, I am one month post op and am down 44 lbs. (25 were pre op diet) I am still weak and tired but have been at the gym consistently the last week and a half. Excited or this journey and my knees feel better already! Not excited for the skin sag/wrinkles, but praying it is minimal and prefer it over fat!

Hi, I think I posted in here earlier but wanted to do an update. I turned 57 about a month after I was sleeved. I was sleeved 5/21 and it has been one of my best life decisions. Last winter I weighed 225 (230 at Dr's). I lost about 8 from then until my pre-op liquid diet. Lost quite a bit pre & post op, (was on liquids 4 weeks). I don't think my age was a huge factor in the process or the healing. I feel great, I just started working out at the gym. Yes there is saggy skin on my stomach, upper arms and inner thighs but I just started working out so it will improve a little with that. Honestly in clothes it doesn't show. I have lost a total of 58 lbs since last winter, I have 32 lbs left to go to get to a normal bmi. I am quite happy and am not going to stress about the last 32. To be in a size 14 and heading toward a 12 is so much better than 20-22 and 2X that I'd think it was worth it, even if this is as far as I got.

Aloha Suzcomptime! You are I are SO similar! I was 5'3" 223 lbs was sleeved 5 days after BD #58 10 months ago. I have lost 79 lbs and am within 5 lbs of goal, but like you not stressing about it. (Although I am going to be sure and reach it before my one year is up!)

Like they say, the 50's are the new 40's but with the sleeve I'm dialing back to the 30's! ROCK ON!!!!

Hello all! I am scheduled for surgery in Dallas on September 21st, the day after my 56th birthday! This forum is great, and it's comforting to see that most of you all have come through the surgery with flying colors. I've never had any anesthesia for anything (even my wisdom teeth extractions), so that was a big concern. I would like to lose 120 pounds, and that would make me thinner than I've been in 30 years. I will be driving with my children to Dallas, which is about 5 hours from where I live, so that's another concern. However, my doctor has told me I will more than likely be released the day after surgery and will be cleared to go home, as long as I stop every hour or so and walk for a few minutes. Anyone else have to ride that far that soon?

Wow. I was sleeved a few days after I turned 58 (11 months ago) and was in the hospital 8 days in Germany....and happy to be there the full 8! I felt very well-taken care of. I know the hospital stays in the US are so short and I can't even imagine it. I would strongly suggest you stay in a hotel for a day or two before making the trip home. This is major surgery and even though I know they do this all the time I think you should be close to where you had it done and not 5 hours away. Just my thoughts. On the bright side, less than a month after surgery, I traveled for the next 6 months throughout Europe and the US! I blog about my journey every Sunday. I had my surgery in Decatur, TX and was released the day after surgery. I only had a 3 hr. drive, but it was no problem. I slept most of the way home.

Hello all! I am new to the group and am 53. I will be getting sleeved in MX on the 25th of Sept.
